Busy Bees childcare review how baby was left unattended at Mirrabooka centre

Two childcare workers have been stood down as a daycare centre reviews how a baby was left unattended for more than 30 minutes after staff had left for the day.

The review comes after a mother went to collect her 16-month-old child from Busy Bees daycare centre in Mirrabooka, Perth, on August 12, only to find the lights were turned off and nobody was answering the emergency contact numbers.

When the concerned mother finally managed to get someone on the phone, staff arrived about 40 minutes later and found her child sleeping in a cot inside the centre, completely unattended.

Busy Bees have since stood down two staff members until a “comprehensive internal review” is completed.

“We respect the privacy of the family involved and have been supporting them directly,” Busy Bees said in a statement to 9 News.

“The safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is our top priority and we are taking this matter very seriously.

“A comprehensive internal review is currently underway to understand how this occurred, including a full review of our policies and procedures. ”

The incident comes months after a toddler pricked herself with a needle while at the same childcare centre in April.

The centre was also fined $14,000 after a three-year-old escaped the centre unnoticed in 2021.
