Koepka beats Rahm in playoff to win LIV Greenbrier

Brooks Koepka has claimed a record fifth LIV Golf League title, defeating Jon Rahm on the first playoff ***** to win the LIV Greenbrier title in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Koepka charged into the reckoning with a final-round seven-under 63 and went on to claim his second win of the year in the league.

Former world No.1 Rahm, who lost a four-shot lead on the back nine at the Olympics two weeks ago, started the day with a two-shot lead and closed with a 65.

He birdied two of his last three holes to match Koepka at 19-under 191 and force the playoff.

Koepka went on to make par at the first playoff *****, and Rahm had a long par putt to extend the match, but it kissed the right edge of the cup and lipped out.

Koepka had double the reason to celebrate because his team, Smash GC, took home the team title by three shots over the all-*********** Ripper GC, captained by Cameron Smith.

Koepka, Talor Gooch, Jason Kokrak and Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell combined to go 18 under par on Sunday, pushing their three-day total to 53 under.

Marc Leishman did best of the Australians individually, finishing tied fourth, two shots outside the playoff, with Lucas Herbert two shots further back in a tie for sixth.

Former British Open champion Smith tied eight at 14 under while fellow Aussie Matt Jones tied 20th at 10 under.

Koepka relished his duel with Rahm.

“For whatever reason, he’s always got the better of me a little bit as of late. So it feels nice just to get one,” he said.

The two playoff participants have seven major championships between them, with Koepka owning five.

But Rahm got the best of Koepka in a head-to-head battle down the stretch at the 2023 Masters, before Rahm left the PGA Tour for LIV.

“I wasn’t thinking about it,” Koepka said. “It was just one of those things, just go play golf and go get it in the ***** as quickly as possible.”
