From Uncharted to GTA, These Are 5 of the Worst Forced Stealth Sections in Gaming

The Uncharted franchise is renowned for its focus on history, jaw-dropping visuals, globe-trotting adventures, and insane action sequences. However, there is one aspect that the gaming community is divided on: the stealth sections.

Not everyone enjoys the calm and more peaceful moments, especially in action-packed video games unless the developers implement them carefully and creatively. Here are 5 video games that went the opposite route, and included forced stealth sections that became a nuisance to everyone else’s playthroughs.

5. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Chapter 8: The Grave of Henry Avery)

The gaming community has gotten used to Nathan Drake’s routine with each new adventure. The franchise is famous for its epic action sequences, history lessons, and solving elaborate puzzles that are considered to be trials in the lore and the developers took full advantage of the PlayStation 4 hardware and made Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End look like a current-gen triple-A game.

Chapter 8, titled The Grave of Henry Avery, features Nate and Sam entering the said grave and reaching a hidden chamber with more clues, in the catacombs underneath the ********* for their next location to scope as they get out, the area is crawling with enemies.

Stealth is optional for the most part; however, a trophy requires getting through the encounter without alerting ****** forces, which can be a hassle.

The franchise is renowned for its combat and stealth; however, some players could not believe their eyes after seeing how unperceptive the ****** AI is in the game. Nate would be hiding in tall grass but is not concealed enough that a real person could see him for the sake of a video game, Naughty Dog dumbed down the enemies for a forgiving experience.

The game featured a few levels that would be finished much faster if players broke their cover and started ********* and relied on Nathan Drake’s luck to get through alive. Perhaps the developers wanted to showcase how far discipline and patience will take the players rather than to start ********* and be done with it quickly.

4. Eavesdropping on NERO Scientists in Days Gone in Broad Daylight

Bend Studio had a great foundation for this ambitious zombie apocalypse game with open-world activities. Unfortunately, the game developers sprinkled a few annoying stealth missions where players must be within range to eavesdrop on the conversation of NERO scientists and it is a massive drag.

The game was denied a sequel; however, the developers are working on a new online multiplayer project, and fans hope these eavesdropping missions will not be carried over as the developers bring back features that worked in Days Gone.

Deacon was tasked with a dangerous job to eavesdrop on scientists and gather more intel. These missions are required to advance the story and all the players get in return are generic conversations that lead to present events and XP points which are not too compelling.

3. Stealing Madd Dogg’s Rhyme Book in GTA: San Andreas

GTA: San Andreas is highly regarded as one of the best entries in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The game developers stepped it up a notch with this installment and introduced new gameplay mechanics such as stealth and it was emphasized heavily in the mission where Carl steals Madd Dogg’s rhyme book in his mansion.

Rockstar Games added shadows and dark corners in certain areas for players to hide in as they crouch and sneak past ****** guards patrolling the mansion that can be taken down using a ******* with a silencer attachment or a ******.

It was interesting to see how players assess the situation depending on how well they have taken care of CJ regarding his physicality, being too obese could slow them down and make them more noticeable.

Some players prefer to go guns blazing and lay waste to the ****** guards to get through the mission faster; unfortunately, all other weapons are locked, forcing players to use their knives to get through the earlier segment of the mission.

2. Sneaking Past BTs in ****** Stranding

Hideo Kojima redefined the stealth genre through his Metal Gear franchise and did something bold with the ****** Stranding series. Fans were blown away by the graphics and visuals of the first game running on a PlayStation 4 and expect to see a massive leap on the PlayStation 5, as they explore new areas getting from one city to another unscathed by the BTs.

Players must tread carefully to avoid being caught by the tendrils of these creatures and ****** their way out. It can be hectic and chaotic, especially if Sam is stocked to the brim with different packages and cargo that could also get damaged in an encounter against the BTs and affect a player’s score with delivery.

The game director has heard enough criticism and feedback from the first game and will likely change the gameplay to appeal to a modern audience, which will pave the way for an engaging and interactive experience in the sequel.

The teaser trailer showed Sam holding an ******** rifle that could harm BTs and this will encourage players to mix and match stealth with loud combat.

1. Mary Jane’s Boring Stealth Missions in Marvel’s Spider-Man

The gaming community was not pleased to control another character without powers of any kind in a Spider-Man game, especially in a fast-moving story and fluid combat. Players were upset to use Mary Jane in a series of stealth missions where she would sneak behind drawers and cabinets from enemies to avoid being spotted by causing distractions.

Her missions ruined the pacing and were placed in awkward moments in the story. The game developers gave her a a few gadgets to improve her odds of getting through without being detected, like a stun **** to incapacitate enemies from behind and throwable discs that would make noise and attract enemies toward it.

The character herself is not bad, especially in the sequel, where the developers made her too overpowered and some fans joke that she is more powerful than both Spider-Men combined.
