Harrowing Punishment for Helldivers 2 Cheaters May Make You Think Twice

Helldivers 2 just recently faced a significant setback when cheating and hacking disrupted one of its newest major orders involving The Gloom and collecting millions of Terminid organic samples.

The developers at Arrowhead Game Studios had to step in to address the situation, leading to an unexpected twist in the game’s narrative. The incident not only exposed vulnerabilities in the game’s anti-cheat system but also led to a mix of reactions from the player community.

Helldivers 2 Major Order Thrown Into Chaos

The latest Major Order in Helldivers 2 tasked players with a massive challenge: collecting 70 million samples across three different planets. The numbers seemed almost impossible to achieve fairly in such a short amount of time, leading many to suspect that cheating was involved when two-thirds of the objectives were mysteriously completed within just a few hours. 

New MO was to collect millions of samples from specific planets. Hackers cheated in the samples and completed 2 of the 3 parts of the MO. Here’s AHs response to that.

This suspicion was later confirmed by Arrowhead Game Studios, who revealed that some players had submitted counterfeit samples. The response was in character, played as a joke, and was displayed to players when logging in to the game.

The mission was meant to uncover more about a dangerous spore cloud known as The Gloom but was cut short due to cheating. Arrowhead quickly responded by pulling the mission early and issuing an in-game message that addressed the issue. 

They explained that the cheated samples, labeled as counterfeit by the studio, had severely negatively affected scientific progress within Helldivers 2’s storyline, leading to a ******** in the mission’s objective. 

Although players who played fairly without cheating received their rewards, the game’s narrative suffered a setback, with the story now progressing as though the mission had *******.
