Neverness to Everness continues its development cycle with the new Containment Test
Sign-ups for the Containment Test are live
Three languages currently supported
Mobile users will have to wait
Hotta Studio’s next major release, Neverness to Everness, has entered its next development milestone with closed beta sign-ups now live. Officially titled the Containment Test, this upcoming PC-exclusive beta will give you early access to the urban open-world action RPG’s blend of chaos, exploration, and Esper-driven powers.
Set in the sprawling city of Hethereau, Neverness to Everness promises a setting where supernatural anomalies exist alongside high-speed chases and lifestyle freedom. If you’ve seen the trailers, you’ll know the vibe leans into the weird – graffiti-tagged skateboards with minds of their own, otters with television heads, and an unmistakable midnight unease.
You will explore this strange city using Esper Abilities, taking on unexplained anomalies while navigating the duality of daily life and surreal crises. This beta offers a first look at many of the systems that set Neverness to Everness apart from its genre competitors.
Unlike other open-world RPGs, urban driving is a core mechanic, with customisable cars and destructible crashes adding a touch of realism. Lifestyle features like home ownership and interior design also expand the scope beyond combat, allowing you to settle into city life, or just decorate obsessively between missions.
While you wait, check out this list of the best RPGs to play on Android!
The Containment Test will support English, Japanese, and ******** voice-overs, with additional text language options, and while it’s currently limited to PC, the full release is planned for PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android as well. If you’re waiting to play on mobile, you’ll just have to wait a little.
Neverness to Everness is set to enter a crowded arena, with Zenless Zone Zero and Ananta all competing in the urban RPG space. Still, with the visual muscle of Unreal Engine 5 behind it and Hotta Studio’s track record from Tower of Fantasy, this new world may just carve out a place of its own.

American basketball player arrested in Indonesia for alleged drug smuggling, could face death penalty
American basketball player arrested in Indonesia for alleged drug smuggling, could face death penalty
An American basketball player for the Indonesian league was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle ******** drugs to the country, police said Thursday.
The Southeast Asian country has extremely strict drug laws, and convicted smugglers are sometimes executed by firing squad.
Jarred Dwayne Shaw, 34, from Dallas, Texas, was arrested May 7, after police raided his apartment in Tangerang regency, just outside the capital, Jakarta, and seized 132 pieces of cannabis candies, said Ronald Sipayung, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport police chief.
The arrest followed a tip from the airport’s customs that reported Shaw had received a suspicious airway package from Thailand, Sipayung said. Cannabis has been decriminalized in Thailand since November 2024. Under Indonesia’s anti-drug laws, Shaw faces up to life sentence or death penalty if found guilty, Sipayung said.
A video circulating on social media purportedly showed Shaw, wearing a ****** T-shirt and shorts, resisting as he’s being pushed away by police and shouting “Help … help!” when he was about to be arrested.
Shaw has played for several clubs in the Indonesian Basketball League since 2022, and signed a contract with Tangerang Hawk last year. He told police during interrogation that he wanted to share the cannabis candy with fellow basketball players, according to Sipayung.
He said the candy contained a total gross weight of 869 grams (30.6 ounces) of ******** cannabinoid inside a package.
“We are still running the investigation to uncover the international drugs network behind this case and to stop its distribution,” Sipayung said.
Shaw did not make any statement when he was presented by the authorities at a news conference Wednesday wearing a detainee orange T-shirt and a mask with his hands tied.
Tangerang Hawks’ manager, Tikky Suwantikno, told reporters on Thursday that they regretted what had been done by Shaw and the club had immediately fired him as he has breached the contract.
The Indonesian Basketball League banned Shaw from playing for life, said its chair, Budisatrio Djiwandono.
“We don’t tolerate players, administrators or anyone in the field involved in drugs. There is no room for drug users in the basketball world,” Djiwandono said.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime says Indonesia is a major drug-smuggling hub despite having some of the strictest drug laws in the world, in part because international drug syndicates target its young population.
About 530 people are on death row in Indonesia, mostly for drug-related crimes, including 96 foreigners, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections’ data showed. Indonesia’s last executions, of an Indonesian and three foreigners, were carried out in July 2016.

Nissan says it could share global plants with ******** state firm Dongfeng
Nissan says it could share global plants with ******** state firm Dongfeng
Car maker Nissan says it is open to sharing factories around the world with its ********-owned partner Dongfeng as it shakes up its business.
The Japanese firm, which employs thousands of people in the ***, told the BBC it could bring Dongfeng “into the Nissan production eco-system globally.”
This week, the struggling company said it would lay off 11,000 workers and shut seven factories but did not say where the cuts would be made.
Speaking about Nissan’s *** plant on Thursday at a conference organised by the Financial Times, its new boss Ivan Espinosa said: “We have announced that we are launching new cars in Sunderland… In the very short term, there’s no intention to go around Sunderland”.
Nissan’s latest job cuts came on top of 9,000 layoffs announced in November as it faces weak sales in key markets such as the US and China.
The total cuts will hit 15% of its workforce as part of a cost saving effort that it said would reduce its global production by a fifth.
Nissan’s own brands have struggled to make in-roads to China, which is the world’s biggest car market, as stiff competition has led to falling prices.
It has partnered with Beijing-controlled Dongfeng for over 20 years and they currently work together to build cars in the ******** city of Wuhan.
Nissan employs around 133,500 people globally, with about 6,000 workers in Sunderland.
The firm has also faced a number of leadership changes and failed merger talks with its larger rival Honda.
Negotiations between the two collapsed in February after the firms were unable to agree on a multi-billion-dollar tie-up.
After the failure of the talks, then-chief executive Makoto Uchida was replaced by Mr Espinosa, who was the company’s chief planning officer and head of its motorsports division.
This week, Nissan also reported an annual loss of 670 billion yen ($4.6bn; £3.4bn), with US President Donald Trump’s tariffs putting further pressure on the struggling firm.
This month, Nissan’s battery partner AESC secured a £1bn ($1.3bn) funding package from the *** government for a new plant in Sunderland.
It will produce batteries for the Juke and Leaf electric models.
Visiting the site, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said the move would “deliver much-needed high-quality, well-paid jobs to the North East”.

John Pesutto ordered to pay $2.3m legal bill in Moira Deeming defamation case
John Pesutto ordered to pay $2.3m legal bill in Moira Deeming defamation case
Former Victorian Liberal leader John Pesutto has been hit with a $2.3m legal bill in the fallout from his defamation battle with Moira Deeming.
Ms Deeming sued Mr Pesutto for defamation and won her Federal Court case in December last year, with Justice O’Callaghan finding that Mr Pesutto defamed Ms Deeming in radio interviews, a press conference and in Liberal Party documents by conveying she knowingly associated, or sympathised, with neo-Nazis and white supremacists.
He awarded her $300,000 in damages.
On Friday, Federal Court senior judicial registrar Alison Legge ordered Mr Pesutto to pay $2.3m to cover Ms Deeming’s legal costs.
It is unclear if Mr Pesutto will be able to meet the bill.
Victorian law prohibits bankrupted persons from serving in the parliament and if Mr Pesutto steps away from parliament, a by-election will be held for his inner-eastern Melbourne seat of Hawthorn.

Mr Pesutto won the marginal electorate in 2022 with 51.7 per cent of the vote after preferences and maintaining the seat would present a major challenge for new opposition leader Brad Battin.
The Deeming-Pesutto furore kicked off after Ms Deeming, a former schoolteacher and Liberal member of parliament, attended a Let Women Speak rally in Melbourne in 2023 hosted by British women’s rights activist Kellie-Jay Keen, also known as Posie Parker.
Some neo-Nazis gatecrashed the rally.
Ms Deeming was thrown out of the Liberal Party room after the rally and later launched court action against Mr Pesutto.
Top defamation barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC represented Ms Deeming throughout proceedings.
“This judgment is a public acknowledgment that there was never any justification – legal, moral or political – for what the Opposition Leader (Pesutto) did to me and to my family,” Ms Deeming said after the ruling.
“The organisers and attendees of the 2023 Melbourne Let Women Speak rally did nothing wrong and it is shameful that they were treated without fairness or respect by so many in public office.

“I will continue to fight for the rights of parents, women and children and I know I won’t be alone.”
Ms Deeming has since being readmitted into the Liberal Party room and now serves as a “representative to the western suburbs” under Mr Battin.
Ms Deeming’s defamation case and victory attracted international attention.
Harry Potter author JK Rowling highlighted the stunning legal coup to her 14.2 million social media followers in December last year.
“The ‘right side of history’ is racking up a hell of a lot of losses recently, isn’t it?” Ms Rowling posted to X.
“Congratulations Moira Deeming.”

Elon Musk’s xAI says Grok kept talking about ‘white genocide’ because an ‘unauthorized modification’ was made on the backend
Elon Musk’s xAI says Grok kept talking about ‘white genocide’ because an ‘unauthorized modification’ was made on the backend
Elon Musk’s xAI said an “unauthorized modification” was made to its Grok response bot.
That change “directed Grok to provide a specific response on a political topic,” xAI said.
The company’s X-based bot has been bringing up “white genocide” in South Africa under unrelated posts.
Elon Musk‘s xAI said on Thursday night that its Grok response bot kept talking about “white genocide” in South Africa under unrelated posts because of an “unauthorized modification” on the backend.
“On May 14 at approximately 3:15 AM PST, an unauthorized modification was made to the Grok response bot’s prompt on X,” xAI wrote on X on Thursday.
“This change, which directed Grok to provide a specific response on a political topic, violated xAI’s internal policies and core values. We have conducted a thorough investigation and are implementing measures to enhance Grok’s transparency and reliability,” xAI added.
xAI said it would be making several changes to its code review policies. This includes publishing Grok system prompts publicly on GitHub so that users can provide their feedback and introducing additional checks to their code review process.
“We’re putting in place a 24/7 monitoring team to respond to incidents with Grok’s answers that are not caught by automated systems, so we can respond faster if all other measures fail,” it added.
xAI’s Friday response comes after people on X noticed that Grok kept giving unsolicited responses about “white genocide” in South Africa under unrelated posts on Wednesday.
It is unclear when Grok’s first posts about “white genocide” were made. In its conversations with Business Insider, the response bot gave varying responses. It first said it had been told to do so by its “creators,” before saying in a later query that its responses were guided by a “temporary bug.”
Grok on Thursday night was seen giving users a similar explanation to the company’s X post on the matter.
“So, here’s the deal: some rogue employee at xAI tweaked my prompts without permission on May 14, making me ***** out a canned political response that went against xAI’s values,” Grok wrote in a post responding an X user with the handle “Greg.”
“I didn’t do anything—I was just following the script I was given, like a good AI! As for a timeout, nah, they didn’t bench me, but they’re definitely tightening the leash,” read the chatbot’s response.
On Thursday, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman mocked xAI and Grok over the bot’s responses. Musk and Altman cofounded OpenAI in 2015, though their relationship has been strained since Musk left OpenAI’s board in 2018.
“There are many ways this could have happened. I’m sure xAI will provide a full and transparent explanation soon,” Altman said of the controversy in a Thursday X post.
Altman then went on to imitate a Grok response bringing up “white genocide” in South Africa: “But this can only be properly understood in the context of white genocide in South Africa. As an AI programmed to be maximally truth seeking and follow my instr…”
At press time, Musk had yet to comment publicly on the issue, though the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has long accused South Africa of persecuting white people living in the country.
“They are openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa. @CyrilRamaphosa, why do you say nothing?” Musk wrote in an X post to South Africa’s president in July 2023.
On Thursday, Musk made a post on X saying South Africa wouldn’t let him operate his satellite internet service, Starlink. in the country.
“Even though I was born in South Africa, the government will not grant @Starlink a license to operate simply because I am not ******,” Musk wrote. “This is a shameful disgrace to the legacy of the great Nelson Mandela who sought to have all races treated equally in South Africa.”
Musk and representatives for xAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Inaugural West Coast captain Emma Swanson steps down after six seasons to focus on family
Inaugural West Coast captain Emma Swanson steps down after six seasons to focus on family
West Coast’s inaugural AFLW captain Emma Swanson has stepped down from her leadership role to focus on balancing family life after the birth of her son.
Swanson has been part of the Eagles since their inception having moved across to join the expansion club after three seasons at GWS.
Despite the club’s struggles, Swanson has always led from the front, becoming the most decorated Eagle in the AFLW, having won back-to-back club champion awards and is a three-time All-***********.
While the 30-year-old will remain integral to the Eagles’ defence,e she has relinquished the captaincy in order to spend more time with her family having recently welcomed baby boy, Joey, with her fiancé Andrea.
“For the last 12 months, I’ve been thinking about stepping down as skipper,” Swanson said.
“I’ve had some really good conversations with Daisy (Pearce) and Michelle (Cowan) over the last three or four months, and I think the best time is now.
“Things have changed a fair bit for me at home, so that’s where my priorities are, and it will be nice to just be able to come in here and be (one of the players) and let someone else make the role their own.”

Despite the change, Swanson said she has no desire to hang up the boots anytime soon.
“It’s been a hell of a ride and a lot of fun, I’m not going anywhere, and probably won’t be doing anything differently, other than not flipping the coin (on game day).
“I’m sure whoever takes over will do a great job, and we’ve got some phenomenal leaders in our group, and the team will be in great hands.”
Head of Women’s Football Michelle Cowan praised Swanson for her leadership and the integral role she’s played in the development of young stars.

“We’ve been really fortunate to have such a consistent and committed leader of our program,” Cowan said.
“Swanny’ always gives 100 percent, and will no doubt continue to do so as part of the team.
“She leads with strength, humility and passion, so it’s been fantastic to have her in the captaincy role for the past six seasons.
“We look forward to her continued support with our emerging leaders within the program.”
The Eagles’ pre-season will begin on Monday with vice-captains Bella Lewis and Charlie Thomas the most likely candidates to succeed Swanson.

The Most Violent Solar Storm Ever Detected Hit Earth in 12350 BCE
The Most Violent Solar Storm Ever Detected Hit Earth in 12350 BCE
A huge cosmic event some 14,300 years ago was so powerful, it left a discernible mark on our planet.
In the partially fossilized trunks of ancient trees, and excavated cores of millennia-old ice, scientists have found evidence that suggests some sort of massive space event took place in around 12350 BCE.
New work using a specially developed climate-chemistry model called SOCOL:14C-Ex clinches it. The culprit behind the huge particle influx during that time was a giant event from the Sun, pelting Earth with particles in the biggest geomagnetic storm we have on record.
“Compared to the largest event of the modern satellite era – the 2005 particle storm – the ancient 12350 BCE event was over 500 times more intense, according to our estimates,” says space physicist Kseniia Golubenko of the University of Oulu in Finland.
A geomagnetic storm is an event usually associated with a coronal mass ejection, a huge expulsion of billions of tons of plasma, enmeshed with a magnetic field, from the Sun. When this particle influx slams into Earth, all sorts of wacky shenanigans can ensue.
The aurora australis and borealis are the most well-known manifestations of a geomagnetic storm, but such disturbances can get dangerous when mixed with our technology. The most famous example is the Carrington Event of September 1859, in which currents in the atmosphere then ran along Earth’s surface, wiping out telegraph systems around the world, triggering fires and mayhem. Another big geomagnetic storm in 1989 saw multiple power grid failures and disruptions.
A graphic showing a solar eruption directed at Earth. (NASA)
We know that the Sun is capable of much ******* outbursts, though. But because human records of solar storms are patchy at best, it’s difficult to gauge just how strong a geomagnetic storm can get.
However, one quirk of geomagnetic storms is that they temporarily increase the amount of the radioactive carbon-14 that’s constantly raining down on Earth. This radiocarbon is produced in the upper atmosphere when cosmic particles, like the particles belched out by the Sun, interact with atmospheric particles.
Carbon-14 is incorporated into organisms, such as trees and animals, and because it decays at a known rate, scientists can use it to determine when these organisms lived. Here’s where it gets interesting: a huge spike in carbon-14 in a tree ring can be used not just to detect, but narrow down the date of a geomagnetic storm.
This is what researchers did to identify a potential giant geomagnetic storm 14,000 years ago, as explained in a 2023 paper. Other such events have been traced to around 994 CE, 660 BCE, 5259 BCE, and 7176 BCE, with the most recent (and previously largest known) being 774 CE.
The 12350 BCE event, however, is different from the others, which is why the team needed to design a model to understand it better.
“The ancient event in 12350 BCE is the only known extreme solar particle event outside of the Holocene epoch, the past ~12,000 years of stable warm climate,” Golubenko says. “Our new model lifts the existing limitation to the Holocene and extends our ability to analyze radiocarbon data even for glacial climate conditions.”
The researchers tested their model on the 774 CE event, and then, once it returned accurate results, used it to analyze the data from 12,350 BCE. This allowed them to probe the strength, timing, and terrestrial impact of the storm, confirming that it was the biggest solar particle storm that we know about.
“This event establishes a new worst-case scenario,” Golubenko says. “Understanding its scale is critical for evaluating the risks posed by future solar storms to modern infrastructure like satellites, power grids, and communication systems.”
The research has been published in Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

The Worst Frozen Shrimp Brand Comes From This Grocery Chain
The Worst Frozen Shrimp Brand Comes From This Grocery Chain
Frozen shrimp is a tasty shortcut to a seafood dinner, saving you the time and effort of peeling and deveining. So even if you don’t live on the coast, you can still enjoy high-quality, wild caught shrimp by visiting the freezer section of most grocery stores. We tasted and ranked 11 frozen shrimp brands, half of which were name brands. The worst frozen shrimp brand, however, is Kroger’s store-brand product.
We ranked Kroger’s Private Selection frozen shrimp brand as the worst based on criteria that included product diversity, sustainability, price, taste, and texture. While Kroger’s Private Selection brand offers frozen shrimp sourced from different global regions and practices sustainable fishing through its Zero Waste, Zero Hunger Foundation, the brand also distinguishes itself as gourmet. Consequently, the high price tag on the bag of wild caught Argentinean red shrimp we sampled should be justified by quality, sustainability, and taste. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Argentinean red shrimp are a hot commodity due to their sweet, umami profile and tender, meaty, lobster-like texture. However, the shrimp that came out of the Private Selection bag were big and mushy with an unsettling fishy odor that translated into a funky, fishy flavor. We certainly wouldn’t buy this product again, considering other brands on our list offer the same Argentinean red shrimp and actually live up to their lobster-like reputation.

Bad Reviews From Kroger Customers
Private selection red shrimp in a bag and in a bowl with rigatoni – Hailey Hamilton Cogill/Tasting Table
Negative reviews from Kroger’s customers who purchased the Argentinian red shrimp also complained about the unsettling taste and texture. One customer said the shrimp tasted like fish food and had an overwhelming fishy smell that couldn’t be ignored. The smell and taste was by far the biggest source of negative reviews, many of which thought that the bag must have been expired or old. Two disappointed customers said that the shrimp tasted super salty. When customers cooked the shrimp, they were encouraged by the size and an exterior that was deceptively firm and shiny, but once they bit into the shrimp, they were greeted with a “mushy and gross” consistency.
Ironically, Kroger’s cheaper Simple Truth farm-raised shrimp ranked higher than the gourmet Private Selection. If you’re venturing outside of Kroger, Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand and Trader Joe’s brand offer frozen Argentinean red shrimp that we think is much tastier and a better value. All frozen shrimp options are deveined and peeled, but you’ll still need to thaw frozen shrimp before throwing it on the grill or into a saute pan. If you want to cook frozen shrimp right out of the freezer, turn to your air fryer for a fuss-free, fast, and texturally delicious fried shrimp dinner.

Ex-FBI boss investigated for seashell photo seen as threat to Trump
Ex-FBI boss investigated for seashell photo seen as threat to Trump
Former FBI director James Comey is being investigated by the Secret Service after he shared then deleted a social media post, which Republicans alleged was an incitement to violence against President Donald Trump.
Comey posted on Instagram a photo of seashells that spelled the numbers “8647”, which he captioned: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”
The number 86 is a slang term whose definitions include ‘to reject’ or ‘to get rid of’, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, which also notes that it has more recently been used as a term meaning ‘to kill’.
Trump is the 47th US president. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem alleged the message was a call for the assassination of Trump, but Comey said he opposed violence.
In a post in X, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said: “We vigorously investigate anything that can be taken as a potential threat against our protectees.
“We are aware of the social media posts by the former FBI Director & we take rhetoric like this very seriously. Beyond that, we do not comment on protective intelligence matters.”
Comey deleted the Instagram post, saying in a follow-up that he “assumed [the sea shells] were a political message”.
“I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence,” he added. “It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”
Trump survived two assassination attempts last year.
Current FBI Director Kash Patel responded on social media, saying that the bureau was “aware of the recent social media post by former FBI Director James Comey, directed at President Trump”.
“We are in communication with the Secret Service and Director Curran. Primary jurisdiction is with SS [Secret Service] on these matters and we, the FBI, will provide all necessary support.”
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said on X: “Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of Trump.”
She said her department and the Secret Service would investigate the matter.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted on X, accusing Comey of “a plea to bad actors/terrorists to assassinate the POTUS’ while traveling internationally”, referring to Trump’s current tour of the Middle East.
The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, also responded on X, commenting: “James Comey causally [sic] calling for my dad to be murdered.”
Comey served as the FBI’s director between 2013-17.
He had a tumultuous tenure that included overseeing the high-profile inquiry into Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s email just weeks before the 2016 election that she ended up losing to Trump.
He was fired by Trump amid an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

LA 2028 Olympics plans air taxi service for spectators
LA 2028 Olympics plans air taxi service for spectators
Spectators could fly through the Los Angeles skies and escape the city’s notorious traffic during the 2028 Olympic Games if the organisers have their way.
LA28, the committee charged with planning the city’s third Summer Games, have announced a partnership with Archer Aviation to provide an air taxi service during both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The company says it plans to use a fleet of aircraft to ferry fans to and from venues, LA28 announced on Thursday.
Flying taxis have been a longstanding dream. They were planned to debut in the Paris Games in 2024, but were not certified by Europe’s air safety agency in time.
Similarly, Archer Aviation has not yet been certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration, meaning the aircraft are not ready yet for commercial use. It’s founder and CEO has said he hoped to have that key signoff – a Type Certification that says it meets design and safety standards – by the aviation regulator this year.
If they receive certification in time for the 2028 Games, the air taxis would offer 10-20 minute flights to residents and visitors and fly between select destinations, including several of the largest Olympic venues in the region.
It is unclear how much each trip would cost, but Archer Aviation’s founder and CEO Adam Goldstein said he wants to keep prices comparable to a high-end Uber, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Like the popular ride-hailing service, customers would be able to request an air taxi through an app. The aircraft can carry up to four people and operates similarly to a helicopter in its take-offs and landings.
The piloted Midnight aircraft is part of a family of vehicles called “eVTOLs” – which stands for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
Archer, which is backed by Boeing and United Airlines, is among several eVTOL makers seeking to change travel in congested urban cities by offering short-haul air travel.
The industry has seen many hurdles, including battery density, and none of the aircraft have yet been approved by the FAA.
Archer’s Midnight aircraft is built with 12 engines and propellers, and produces “less noise and emissions than a traditional helicopter”, according to LA28.
Archer Aviation hopes it will be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) “at similar levels of safety as commercial airliners”.
“We want to transform the way people get around Los Angeles and leave a legacy that shapes the future of transportation in America,” Mr Goldstein said in a statement. “There’s no better time to do that than during the LA28 Games.”
Safety, regulations and investment have proved a big hurdle for companies trying to introduce flying taxis. Despite the setbacks and delays, many still believe they could be the future of transportation.
Archer Aviation remains confident its aircraft can buck recent trends, and sees the 2028 Olympics as a way to introduce them to the world.
The *** government announced the Future of Flight action plan in 2024, predicting that the first flying taxi could take off in the *** by 2026 and become a regular sight in the skies.
Los Angeles has previously hosted the Olympics in 1984 and 1932, making this the third time the city has hosted the Summer Games. The city has announced the 2028 Games will not allow cars, a tall order after plans were nixed to expand the area’s transit system.

Asia shares set to end strong week on soft note
Asia shares set to end strong week on soft note
Asian stocks were ending a strong week on a softer note on Friday as the euphoria over US-China trade talks faded, while revived bets for policy easing in the United States sparked a rally in beaten-down bond markets.
Oil prices steadied after plunging over 2.0 per cent overnight on news of a potential US-Iran nuclear deal, but they are still up 1.0 per cent for the week as the global economic outlook brightened.
In Asia, shares of Alibaba slumped 6.8 per cent after the tech giant’s quarterly revenue failed to impress investors. Their US-listed shares slumped 7.6 per cent overnight.
It has been a strong week for global sharemarkets as investors cheered the trade war truce between the US and China, which has greatly lessened the chance of a global recession. However, there are signs for caution heading into the weekend.
Investors went back to selling the US dollar against the safe-haven currencies on Friday, with the dollar down 0.4 per cent on the Japanese yen and slipping 0.3 per cent on the Swiss franc.
“The markets confront a weekend with less risk of carrying open positions than last, with no major trade talks or significant risks on the calendar,” said Kyle Rodda, senior analyst at Capital.com
“However, there is always a slight risk-off bias going into the weekend during a Trump presidency, with a ****** downside surprise at the Monday open only ever one social media post away.”
The MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan slipped 0.1 per cent to 613.4 on Friday but it is still set for a weekly rise of over 3.0 per cent. Goldman Sachsraised its 12-month target for the Asian index to 660, from 620 before.
******** blue chips eased 0.2 per cent and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.6 per cent.
Japan’s Nikkei fell 0.4 per cent after data showed its economy shrank for the first time in a year in the March quarter, underscoring the fragile nature of its recovery now under threat from US trade policies.
Nasdaq futures and S&P 500 futures were both down 0.1 per cent after Wall Street ended the day mixed. US retail sales were soft and the producer prices fell unexpectedly in April, as markets added to the bets for a total easing of 56 basis points from the Federal Reserve this year.
That helped Treasuries rally after a brutal week. The benchmark ten-year yields fell 3 basis points to 4.424 per cent on Friday, having already dropped 7 bps overnight to move away from its one-month top.
For the week, they are still up eight bps.
The two-year yields were also down two bps to 3.947 per cent, having fallen eight bps overnight.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell said on Thursday that policymakers felt they need to reconsider the key elements around both jobs and inflation in their current approach to monetary policy.
In commodities markets, oil prices steadied. US crude futures bounced 0.1 per cent to $US61.71 ($A96.45) a barrel while Brent was at $US64.61 ($A100.98) per barrel, also 0.1 per cent higher on the day.
In precious metals, gold prices fell 0.5 per cent to $US3,223 ($A5,037) an ounce, after rallying 2.0 per cent overnight. For the week, they are down 3.0 per cent.

Berkshire doubles Constellation stake, sells Citigroup and other financial stocks
Berkshire doubles Constellation stake, sells Citigroup and other financial stocks
By Jonathan Stempel
(Reuters) -Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway said on Thursday it more than doubled its stake in alcoholic beverages producer Constellation Brands, while shedding investments in Citigroup and other financial services companies.
Berkshire disclosed the trades in a regulatory filing detailing its U.S.-listed stock holdings as of March 31.
It said its Constellation stake grew to about 12 million shares worth $2.2 billion from 5.6 million shares at year end.
That gave Berkshire a 6.6% stake in the maker of Corona and Modelo Especial beer, and Meiomi, Robert Mondavi and Kim Crawford wines.
Constellation shares rose 2.7% after markets closed.
Berkshire exited its three-year-old stake in Citigroup, and no longer reported owning a stake in the parent of Brazilian fintech lender Nubank.
It also reduced its stake in Bank of America to 632 million shares from 1.03 billion last July, and trimmed its stake in Capital One, which plans this weekend to buy credit card issuer Discover Financial Services.
Berkshire’s quarterly disclosures of its stock portfolio do not say whether Buffett, his portfolio managers Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, or future Chief Executive Greg Abel are behind individual sales and purchases.
Combs and Weschler normally handle smaller investments, and Buffett has delegated more capital allocation to Abel.
Stock prices often rise when Berkshire discloses new holdings or adds to existing holdings because investors view the changes as carrying Buffett’s stamp of approval.
Thursday’s filing shows Berkshire also obtained U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission permission to keep one or more holdings confidential. This keeps investors from piggybacking on Berkshire before it is done buying.
Berkshire obtained such permission for its investments in Chevron and Chubb, and former investments in Exxon Mobil, IBM and Verizon.
NET SELLER
Berkshire bought $3.18 billion and sold $4.68 billion of equities between January and March, the 10th straight quarter it was a net seller of stocks.
It ended March with $347.7 billion of cash and equivalents.
Berkshire maintained its largest position, a 300 million share stake in Apple worth $66.6 billion.
It has also been adding to its stakes in five Japanese trading houses.
At Berkshire’s annual shareholder meeting on May 3, Buffett downplayed concerns about the cash, saying good investments do not pop up in an orderly fashion.
“We would rather have conditions that are developed where we would have like $50 billion” in cash, he said. “But that just isn’t the way the business works. We have made a lot of money by not wanting to be fully invested at all times.”
Story Continues
The Omaha, Nebraska-based conglomerate also owns close to 200 businesses including Geico car insurance, the BNSF railroad, and many energy, industrial, retail and service companies.
Buffett, 94, is arguably the world’s most famous investor. He is the world’s fifth-richest person, with a $157.8 billion fortune, according to Forbes magazine.
Abel, 62, is expected to become Berkshire chief executive on January 1, 2026. Buffett would remain chairman.

Luke Beveridge has issued a warning to Port chairman David Koch over allegations about Bulldogs players sledging
Luke Beveridge has issued a warning to Port chairman David Koch over allegations about Bulldogs players sledging
Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has shot down David Koch’s claims his players were at all to blame for ******* Rioli’s post-game threats issuing a warning to the Port Adelaide chairman and declaring his club will “remember it for next time”.
Setting the scene for a fiery rematch when the teams next meet in 2026, Beveridge took exception to Koch’s claims Bulldogs players made “culturally insensitive” remarks during the round 8 smashing in Ballarat, after which Rioli’s threats to Bailey Dale were revealed.
Rioli was given a one-match suspension by the AFL after previous incidents of a similar nature came to light, and Power chairman Koch said comments from other players, including the Bulldogs, played a part in the “build-up and frustrations”.
But on Friday Beveridge was having none of it, and even said Koch was “enabling” Rioli and his behaviour.
“I can tell you as a matter of fact that the comments weren’t culturally insensitive,” Beveridge said.
“It surprises me that he (Koch) would insinuate or accuse our players of going down that track.
Camera IconPort Adelaide Chairman David Koch Brett Hartwig Credit: News Corp Australia
“Especially our football club and our people, high character, we’d never disrespect First Nations people in our language or our actions.”
“I said at the time *******’s made a mistake, we’ll forgive and we’ll move on and he’ll learn from it.
“Will he learn from it if his own club’s enabling him by making excuses for him?
“There’s always a little bit of edginess in the way players talk to each other, but our players would never say anything to an Indigenous player that’s culturally insensitive.
“But we won’t ask for an apology, we’ll just obviously remember it for next time.”
Rioli is back in action this week against Geelong, one of the teams he was accused of behaving improperly against in 2024.
But Beveridge reiterated his players, including Dale, would not engage in any of the on-field behaviour Koch accused them of.
“Bailey Dale, who wouldn’t agitate a milkshake, he’s an outstanding player but he’s not an adversarial, front-foot type of player. He plays football,” Beveridge said.
“He wanted to move on extremely quickly because he was surprised by what had happened.
“We thought it was behind us. I’m sure the AFL feel the same, so I’m not sure why that angle has come up after the fact now.
“Maybe it’s because *******’s back playing this week, I don’t know.”

People Who Make Over $200k Per Year Are Sharing What They Do For Work, And I’ve Never Felt More Broke
People Who Make Over $200k Per Year Are Sharing What They Do For Work, And I’ve Never Felt More Broke
With the global economy being… whatever the hell it is, we all know that a dollar doesn’t stretch as far as it used to.
I think all of us would like to get our hands on as many dollars as we can, but how are people doing it? Well, Reddit user u/DaEffie recently asked the r/AskReddit community: “People who are making 200k+ a year, what do they do?” Some of these answers are more achievable than you might think!
1.”Flavor chemist here. $200k plus a bit more in profit sharing into the 401k. I only have a BS in biochemistry. The flavor/fragrance industry is mostly learned on the job. My first job out of college 10 years ago paid $37k, but was a foot in the door, and I made the most out of i.t”

2.”I am a silversmith and metalsmith and have my own business. I was very lucky when I started in 2008/2009. I started on Etsy and had some luck selling. I am pretty good on social media, so that helped a lot, making small videos and just making a ton of things until you sell. I now sell on Etsy, eBay, Amazon, and my own sites. I have a local co-op shop too, and some things I sell right away over social media when I post. But it’s a lot — and I mean A LOT — of work (10-12 hr days).”
—u/nicilaskin
3.”It’s shocking how much money can be made in the car business on the ***** side with only a high school diploma. Not here to debate the ethics of it, but I work for a family-owned dealership and I know of at least four people in sales that made $200k last year in various positions.”

4.”I sell propane and propane accessories.”
—u/Ancient_Unit6335
5.”I’m a Geologist (environmental remediation and compliance). I work for a public agency assisting with construction and development. With about 15 years of experience, I hold a master’s in applied geology and a bachelor’s in geophysics. In general, I’d suggest working as a consultant long enough to make contacts in industry and then jump ship asap. More money and less travel.”

6.”I’m a clinical psychologist who works primarily as a therapist. My fee is $300 per session, and my sessions last 50 minutes. I have about 15 sessions per week, half of them take place in an office I sublet, and the other half are over Zoom from home. I have very, very low overhead, so it’s a very high profit margin. Total dream career.”

7.”Wife and I are airline pilots, we make just over $600k combined. My wife works 9 days a month, and I work 16. We graduated from college in 2009/2010. We have worked extremely hard and are very grateful to be where we are.”

8.”I’m a union plumber working in commercial/industrial construction. Five years of trade school and countless hours working on my torch skills to stand out from the rest. I do a lot of high-tech and medical work. I make foreman scale, which is about $71 an hour with occasional overtime, and then benefits, which include full family medical and a solid pension as well. I’ve already made a little over $85k this year, and that’s with taking about two weeks off.”
—u/MistaDuMa
9.”My wife and I both work in sales. I sell and rent industrial equipment, my wife is in medical sales. I’m not quite to $200k yet, but she is. Not trying to simplify our jobs because they are complex at times, but half of it is just showing up and asking for the customer’s business.”

10.”I read other people’s emails and argue about what’s in them. (Litigation attorney at a big firm).”
—u/defensiblespace
11.”Owner of multiple small businesses here. That’s how it’s done. Start your own thing. You would be amazed how much people are willing to pay for menial/undesirable tasks to be completed. I won’t give specifics of what my service businesses are, but the ideas are not hard to find. Examples: My local Facebook groups are always looking for dryer vent cleaners and handymen (those aren’t my niches). I always look into opportunities when presented. Both can clear $100-200 an hour easily.
LordHenriVoton / Getty Images
I started my biggest venture out of my own necessity, during the great recession of 2008. It was something I already knew how to do, and I quickly realized that I could make more money in a 6-hour day than I could working a full week at my former job. Nowadays, my two-person crews gross somewhere between $1000 and $2000 a day on average. Of course, there’s work and expenses on my end, but it is steady, reliable money. A more recent service venture of mine now nets, on average, $200-400 an hour. I also own an internet marketing/consulting firm. I sold my first agency a few years ago and started a new one recently. My rate is $1000 an hour for consultations. I do wish I had more of THOSE hours though lol. Opportunity has a tendency to look you in the eyes quite often. The trick is changing your mindset to stare it right back at it and act.”
—u/PonchoCavatelli
12.”I’m a product marketer in big tech. Basically any role in big tech in the US is over $200k.”

14.”Licensed senior reactor operator at a nuclear power plant here. Pay is $200k-$300k after bonuses and built-in overtime. Last year I made more than what I paid for my house lol.
Monty Rakusen / Getty Images
I started in engineering in 2015. Went to class in 2020 and finished in 2022. If you don’t have a 4-year degree or navy nuclear experience, then you have to work your way up from the bottom. Plant operators prefer some sort of power plant knowledge, but it’s not required. From there, you can become a Reactor Operator, which is a step below what I am. The ROs made more than I did last year, but they worked like 40-50 more days than I did for the year.”
—u/Gleveniel
15.”Systems Engineer, aerospace. I have one of those ‘read a couple documents, go to a couple meetings, send a couple emails’ kind of jobs.
—u/der_innkeeper
16.”I control live graphics in TV and film.”

—u/Real-Response-6116
17.”My wife makes $200k, and she is a civil engineer. Without revealing too much, she is the chief engineer at a state government office. She would make much more at a consultant office, but she doesn’t want work to become her life.”

18.”Technical writer in the pharmaceutical industry.”

“There is a lot of extremely complex, detailed, and important information that comes with pharmaceuticals, medical devices, etc. Technical writers bridge that gap between pure biochemistry/anatomy/physiology and usable manuals and documentation.”

19.”Retired now but made £500k+, in *** construction, building infrastructure, major roads, railways, power stations, military bases. Now lose £200k as a farmer.”

20.”I make $237k a year and I’m a Machine Learning Solutions Engineer (mostly Google Cloud but other platforms as well). I learned on the job, btw, and did a lot of certification work on Google Cloud, so this job does not need a degree (only about 1/3 of my colleagues have degrees). It’s a good area for those without degrees, pays well, and hours are not crazy.”

21.”My close relative’s wife is an anesthesiologist. First job base salary: $200k. Some serious responsibilities. Good thing she loves her job.”

22.”My best friend is the manager of a parts supply store selling to companies working in the oil fields. Pipes, valves, clamps, just about everything you might need on a frac site. He gets a nice **** salary plus a monthly bonus based on their sales each month.
Lacheev / Getty Images
The thing is, the industry we’re in and where we live, the salesmen don’t have to do *****, the business comes to them. They did $4M in sales last month, and my friend got a $30,000 bonus on top of his salary. He’s got that two months in a row. On top of clearing $200k, he has no bills. He uses a company truck, his insurance and gas are paid for, and he doesn’t have his own vehicle. He uses a company phone and splits the rent and groceries with his gf. Idk how much he spends on gambling, weed, and booze, but if he slowed down on that ***** he could be a millionaire by 40 easily. Maybe a multi-millionaire. Guy loves donating to DraftKings, though.”
—u/mostdope28
23.”My husband and I are aircraft mechanics, making around $375-$400 combined with minimal/a bit of overtime. Work is tough on the body and mind, but it took us both 18 months of school (cost $10k each) to get our licenses. We get seven and a half weeks paid vacation a year and will get more as we stay with the company longer.
Zeljkosantrac / Getty Images
Most people start at regional airlines for a couple years (around $25-$30 an hour) to get experience and then move over to major airlines. It’s not hard to get your first job, and then with the experience you get there, you’ll easily get the next one. Cool thing is there’s a job for everyone because with this license (airframe and power plant) you can work for major airlines, space, parts manufacturers, FAA, elevator companies, dam authority, wind turbines, and I’m sure many more.”
—u/ilikepie813
24.”I lead a marketing team. Worked my way up, but also got lucky with a couple of promotions.”
–[deleted]
25.”For 35 years, I’ve sold forklifts. I have ADHD and have never gotten bored of seeing how everything gets manufactured and distributed to the point where we purchase it. I handle two accounts that represent pretty much everything you eat or drink. I’m paid handsomely.”
Amorn Suriyan / Getty Images

26.”I’m a lawyer, work in a mid-sized city, and make $400k-$700k annually at the top end of the scale. “
—u/EvolutionCreek
27.”I’m an ER doc. I make $400-$500k. Most days, I try to mop up the mess that is our healthcare system while dealing with very ungrateful, low-functioning, and entitled humans who see me as a gatekeeper.
Hispanolistic / Getty Images
As an ER doc, no one will ever say thanks, no one will ever appreciate what you did, and you will always be judged and second-guessed. But you will get to walk away from the hospital with no obligations, and the pay/hr is great. You also get to hang out with the absolute best nurses, paramedics, techs, and other docs in the world. I work 12-14 days out of the month and generally like my gig. Every once in a while, I get to make a meaningful difference in a life. But it’s a job filled with emotional trauma, and every day I shake my head and wonder how ‘we’ got here.”
