Pictures show the group with masks on, carrying various flags and shields. Some had turned the United States flag upside down, others carried the Betsy Ross flag from the 1700’s and a few members carried the Confederate battle flag. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights non-profit organization, says that Patriot Front is a “white nationalist hate group”. It continues to say that the group split from Vanguard America, one of the groups involved in the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas posted on Facebook on Saturday, saying, “While the First Amendment provides the right to bring any message to Kansas City, we know that our diversity, our welcoming community, and our respect for the rights of all reject whatever hate and cowardice come our way.” It’s unclear why the group chose Kansas City for their demonstration. So when Venus Metals Corporation released an ASX regulatory notice last week revealing that Chris Wallin, the owner of QCoal Group, had been busy mopping up shares in the Western *********** junior explorer, punters might be wise to take note. Wallin is ranked 50th on The *********** newspaper’s latest richest 250 list, with an estimated wealth of $3.13 billion. The Queenslander made his fortune from the ground up by building a coal mining operation 36 years ago, turning it into one of his home state’s biggest resource companies. With five producing coal mines and an estimated $400 million in annual dividends, the veteran resource executive has plenty of ready cash to deploy into his **** projects and it seems, Venus is one of them. Wallin’s recent buying spree of a further 2.43M shares has now taken his total holding in Venus to 23.53 per cent. The Corporations Act rules state a shareholder can own up to 19.9 per cent of a company before triggering a compulsory takeover bid. However, a creep provision within those rules allows the same investor to accumulate a further 3 per cent of the register every six months. Given that Wallin has invoked the creep rules to take his holding in Venus to 23.5 per cent, it would seem fair to suggest he may not want to stop there. The seasoned miner first stepped up to the plate as a Venus shareholder in 2019 after taking a 5 per cent stake in the junior company through a placement. He has been a stalwart supporter since, accumulating a further 40M shares in the past six years. At the time of the initial raising, funds were earmarked for exploration at the company’s Western *********** Youanmi gold project in a joint venture (JV) with Rox Resources. The rest is history, with the JV partners now moving towards a final investment decision to develop a 2.3-million-ounce gold mine just as the gold price booms. Two years ago, Venus sold its interests in the project to Rox in exchange for 110M Rox shares after the partners agreed to consolidate ownership of the project. Half those shares were distributed in specie and as a bonus to Venus’ shareholders, leaving Wallin a beneficiary with 2.4 per cent of the Rox register. He has continued to build on that initial stake and now owns 8.5 per cent of the register. Whatever plays out next in the Venus story, one thing is clear: Wallin has made his move and, given that he is such an astute operator, punters will take note. On the face of it, he might be onto something. Venus appears to be shaping up as an under-the-radar gold play, thanks to its $17.5M stake in Rox. That’s against Venus’s market capitalisation of just $20M. On top of that, Venus holds a 1 per cent royalty over the Youanmi gold project, which is due to pour first gold by early 2027. The royalty was independently valued last June at $9.5, when gold was selling for $3155 per ounce. With gold now booming at $5162 per ounce, Youanmi’s value appears light on. Venus’s market capitalisation could be justified alone on the back of its gold-laced royalty stream and a swag of Rox shares. However, its own exploration plays are quickly becoming just as compelling. At its Sandstone gold project, 70 kilometres from Rox’s Youanmi mine, the company is fast-tracking development at its Bellchambers deposit, which already has a 30,500-ounce gold resource. Venus has lodged a new mining lease application over the JORC resource at site and is eyeing a potential mine gate deal with Rox with metallurgical studies already in motion. The company has also just completed a fresh reverse circulation to upgrade the resource with results pending and is about kick off a diamond drilling campaign further its metallurgical studies. Venus isn’t just chasing gold. At the company’s Pincher base metal project, 15km from Youanmi, it’s also hunting a major copper prize. A recent survey uncovered a massive 5000-Siemens anomaly, already tested with RC drilling. Now, with a WA Government exploration incentive grant in hand, the company is gearing up to drill diamond tails next month. At the same prospect, drilling has also uncovered shallow zinc hits. Metallurgical test work has already been completed on the mineralisation and an infill drilling program is now in the pipeline as the company eyes a potential resource. Adding to the company’s value proposition, Venus has bagged a $6M farm-in JV with IGO Limited, right next door to the world-class Greenbushes lithium mine. The early signs look promising, with spodumene crystals spotted at its Cow Slip and Flying Duck prospects. Gravity surveys are now homing in on drill targets. Meanwhile, Venus is quietly stockpiling a portfolio of specialty assets. Near Youanmi, it holds a calcrete deposit that could supply acid neutralisation material to Rox’s future gold plant, and it has filed a provisional patent tied to a titanium-vanadium-iron project with breakthrough hydrometallurgical potential. With a billionaire backer steadily upping his stake, an interest in Youanmi already worth almost as much as the company’s entire market cap and a pipeline of high-impact exploration plays across gold, copper, lithium and critical minerals, Venus Metals appears to be quietly transforming from a sleeper stock into a serious gold player with a multi-commodity twist. But on Sunday, Trump said he would delay tariffs on EU to July 9 from June 1 following a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Indeed, when news of the tariffs first broke, analysts weren’t convinced Trump’s statement held much weight. For one, the U.S. President used the word “recommendation” — a proposal rather than a declaration of intent. In my Dyson V15s Detect Submarine review, I said that the Submarine wet roller head handles both wet and dry spills “supremely well” and I still stand by that today. Not only is it one of my picks for the best cordless vacuums you can buy in Australia, but it’s also what I use at home. At first, I thought the Submarine was overpriced – like nearly all of Dyson’s recent vacuums – particularly the Complete variant which is exclusively available only via the British brand’s stores. However, I quickly changed my mind considering it ships with a plethora of accessories, including the Free-dok, which is Dyson’s free-standing dock that neatly stows everything away. While I’d still find it hard to recommend the Submarine Complete at full price, there’s a AU$550 discount direct from Dyson, which matches its ****** Friday ***** price and makes it easy for me to say you should definitely consider it if you’re keen on a new Dyson upgrade. That’s a 33% discount, in case you were wondering, and brings the price down from a hefty AU$1,649 to a much more appealing AU$1,099. That’s AU$50 more than its Boxing Day ***** discount, but I still think this is a good price, particularly ahead of the Australia’s EOFY 2025 sales. I’ll be the first to admit that the Submarine isn’t perfect. The wet roller cleaning head has a design flaw that can allow dirty water to spill out if it gets too full, so a little care is needed when you finish mopping and want to move the cleaning head to a sink. Other than that, though, the roller itself is absolutely fantastic! I’ve used it to dry out a wet bath and it sucks up all the water efficiently. It’s been able to remove caked-in sauce spills on my kitchen floor… after a few passes over the spot to add some moisture to it for better cleaning. Which means a regular mop is just a walk in the park for the Submarine. Mopping aside, this is a Dyson vacuum, so you know you’re getting good suction here. I find that the V15s Detect Submarine does a very good job on my bedroom carpet after it’s been smothered with my hair over the course of a few days. And I’m impressed by how well the dirt sensors work – the dynamic suction here is so good that I usually just leave the vacuum on Auto and just let it do its thing – works every single time! And as I mentioned in the review, the upgraded Fluffy Optic’s light is now brighter and has a broader beam, so it’s a lot better at highlighting particles on the floor compared the original hard-floor cleaning head that launched with the Dyson V15 Detect. As for the dock, I’ll admit that I have trouble storing all the tools on the Free-dok as it’s standing in a rather tight corner, but if you can figure out the best configuration for your space, it’s a neat storage accessory to have. A man gulped from a jug filled with a flammable liquid that he spat onto a torch, throwing flames into the night sky. As a helicopter circled overhead, a man wearing a leather jacket clambered up a light pole, his feet perched on a street sign. He pulled out his phone and appeared to film himself talking into the camera. People stand near a police cruiser that was vandalized early Sunday morning. (OnScene.TV) The crowd’s attention turned to an A Line train, which had stopped along its route on Washington Boulevard. According to the footage, vandals within the crowd began spray-painting the train and hammering on the windows. The Los Angeles Police Department was alerted at 12:12 a.m. Sunday by a caller who said five male suspects had entered a train car and were vandalizing the interior, said Officer Kevin Terzes, an LAPD spokesperson. Video showed dozens of LAPD officers massed in a skirmish line across the street from the mob, gripping ****** and green riot guns that fire foam rounds. At 12:19 a.m., the LAPD received another call of people being “disruptive” on a train at Washington Boulevard and Trinity Street, Terzes said. HS2 Ltd is looking into two firms supplying workers to build the West Midlands section of the high-speed line. It is understood to relate to billing for the staff supplied. The Department for Transport said it would ensure “any claims of wrongdoing in HS2’s supply chain” were “thoroughly” dealt with. The existence of HS2’s investigation, which began earlier this year was first reported by the i newspaper on Monday. According to the paper, the matter relates to misclassification of staff and claims that inflated rates were being charged for them. It is understood the two firms being looked at were providing workers to Balfour Beatty Vinci, one of HS2’s contractors. A HS2 spokesperson said it treated “all whistleblower allegations seriously”, adding that Balfour Beatty Vinci “had implemented additional monitoring and controls”. It is understood one of the labour suppliers remains suspended from new contracts while inquiries continue. A Department for Transport spokesman said the government and HS2 “take all whistleblower allegations extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance attitude towards fraud, bribery, and corruption”. “We will therefore ensure any claims of wrongdoing in HS2’s supply chain are thoroughly investigated.” The police and HMRC are not believed to be involved. Work is currently under way to build the nearly 140-mile high-speed line between London and the West Midlands. The HS2 project was announced in 2009 to boost capacity on England’s north-south rail links, aiming to reduce journey times, create jobs and boost the *** economy. The original plan was to build the line in two phases – with the first connecting London and Birmingham and the second adding two branches to Manchester and Leeds. But the project has suffered various setbacks and spiralling costs since it was announced and the decision was taken by the last Conservative government to scrap the second phase. The Labour government has said it will not reinstate it. Much of the work London-Birmingham section has been completed – with more than 75% of tunnelling complete, according to HS2 Ltd. Separately, the mayors of Greater Manchester and the West Midlands have revealed plans for a new rail line linking their regions which would rely on private investment and cost less than the scrapped northern leg of HS2. Official estimates of how much HS2 will cost have changed several times over the years. Last October, the government announced that ministers would take a direct role in overseeing the building of the line to try to “get a grip” on rising costs. In 2012 it was estimated that HS2 Phase 1 (London to Birmingham) would cost £20.5bn (at 2019 prices). We Now Know What Switched The Lights on at The Dawn of Time We Now Know What Switched The Lights on at The Dawn of Time We finally know what brought light to the dark and formless void of the early Universe. According to data from the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes, the origins of the free-flying photons in the early cosmic dawn were small dwarf galaxies that flared to life, clearing the fog of murky hydrogen that filled intergalactic space. A paper about the research was published in February 2024. “This discovery unveils the crucial role played by ultra-faint galaxies in the early Universe’s evolution,” said astrophysicist Iryna Chemerynska of the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris. “They produce ionizing photons that transform neutral hydrogen into ionized plasma during cosmic reionization. It highlights the importance of understanding low-mass galaxies in shaping the Universe’s history.” At the beginning of the Universe, within minutes of the Big Bang, space was filled with a hot, dense fog of ionized plasma. What little light there was wouldn’t have penetrated this fog; photons would simply have scattered off the free electrons floating around, effectively making the Universe dark. As the Universe cooled, after about 300,000 years, protons and electrons began to come together to form neutral hydrogen (and a little bit of helium) gas. Most wavelengths of light could penetrate this neutral medium, but there was very little in the way of light sources to produce it. But from this hydrogen and helium, the first stars were born. Those first stars delivered radiation that was strong enough to peel electrons away from their nuclei and reionize the gas. By this point, however, the Universe had expanded so much that the gas was diffuse, and could not prevent light from shining out. By about 1 billion years after the Big Bang, the end of the ******* known as the cosmic dawn, the Universe was entirely reionized. Ta-da! The lights were on. But because there’s so much murk in the cosmic dawn, and because it’s so dim and far away across time and space, we’ve had trouble seeing what’s there. Scientists thought that the sources responsible for most of the clearing must have been powerful – huge ****** holes whose accretion produces blazing light, for example, and large galaxies in the throes of star formation (baby stars produce a lot of UV light). JWST was designed, in part, to peer into the cosmic dawn and try to see what lurks therein. It’s been very successful, revealing all sorts of surprises about this crucial time in the formation of our Universe. Surprisingly, the telescope’s observations now suggest that dwarf galaxies are the key player in reionization. An international team led by astrophysicist Hakim Atek of the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris turned to JWST data on a galaxy cluster called Abell 2744, backed up by data from Hubble. Abell 2744 is so dense that space-time warps around it, forming a cosmic lens; any distant light traveling to us through that space-time becomes magnified. This allowed the researchers to see tiny dwarf galaxies close to the cosmic dawn. Then, they used JWST to obtain detailed spectra of these tiny galaxies. Their analysis revealed that, not only are these dwarf galaxies the most abundant galaxy type in the early Universe, they are far brighter than expected. In fact, the team’s research shows that dwarf galaxies outnumber large galaxies by 100 to 1, and their collective output is four times the ionizing radiation usually assumed for larger galaxies. “These cosmic powerhouses collectively emit more than enough energy to get the job done,” Atek said. “Despite their tiny size, these low-mass galaxies are prolific producers of energetic radiation, and their abundance during this ******* is so substantial that their collective influence can transform the entire state of the Universe.” It’s the best evidence yet for the force behind reionization, but there’s more work to be done. The researchers looked at one small patch of the sky; they need to make sure that their sample isn’t just an anomalous cluster of dwarf galaxies, but is a representative sample of the entire population in the cosmic dawn. They intend to study more cosmic lens regions of the sky to obtain a wider sample of early galactic populations. But just on this one sample, the results are incredibly exciting. Scientists have been chasing answers on reionization for as long we’ve known about it. We’re on the brink of finally blowing away the fog. “We have now entered uncharted territory with the JWST,” said astrophysicist Themiya Nanayakkara of Swinburne University of Technology in Australia. “This work opens up more exciting questions that we need to answer in our efforts to chart the evolutionary history of our beginnings.” The research has been published in Nature. Healthy carbohydrates can provide nutrients like potassium, fiber, vitamins and minerals that support healthy blood pressure and overall heart health. Include foods like fruits, beans, yogurt and oats in your diet to reap the benefits. Approximately 1 out of 2 U.S. adults has high blood pressure, putting them at an increased risk of stroke, heart attack and other undesired outcomes. When a person is diagnosed with high blood pressure, the first diet tip that is typically given is to limit the consumption of dietary sodium. And while that is probably a good idea, there are many other nutrients that play a role. Following the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, or DASH diet, has been shown to lower blood pressure significantly. It emphasizes foods like whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nonfat or low-**** milk and dairy foods, lean meat, poultry, fish, nuts, seeds, legumes and healthy fats. If you are a carb lover and have high blood pressure, the good news is that the DASH diet includes several carb-rich foods. And opting for plant-based carbohydrate-containing foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains may help lower blood pressure. Conversely, too many added sugars from foods like sugar-sweetened beverages are associated with higher blood pressure levels and higher hypertension risk. Limiting ultra-processed carbs like doughnuts and candy and focusing on carbs that are more nutrient-dense is a good rule of thumb when navigating your carb choices. Here are some of the best carbs to include in your diet for healthy blood pressure levels. 1. Bananas The darling of potassium-containing foods, bananas are one of the best carb-rich foods to eat to support healthy blood pressure. Since the American Heart Association recommends that adults with blood pressure above 120/80 increase their dietary potassium intake, including bananas in your eating pattern is a smart choice. Of course, you can enjoy a banana simply by peeling it and eating it when you are on the go.
