We ended up at 29.28% for 2024; SPX up 23.67% for the year. was up 6 days in a row going into last Monday, suggesting the market will be higher within five days 85% of the time (Check). The sixth best week of the year according to seasonality is May 24 to June 5, and we are in that timeframe now. Above is the daily SPY. SPY broke below the previous lows of 570 back in March and then closed above those lows in early May (shaded in light pink). When a market can’t hold below its previous lows, it will attempt to take out its previous highs, and in this case, the previous high is 610 range; the February highs. Most likely, the next attempt at 610 may find resistance and therefore a place we may exit our long SPX. The weekly pattern that appears to be forming on SPY is a Head and Shoulders pattern. The Left Shoulder developed from December 2024 to January 2025; the Head formed at the April 2025 low, and the Right Shoulder is starting now and may not complete until July or August. This potential Head and Shoulders pattern has a measured target near 740 on the SPY, which is over 25% higher than current levels. Support comes in nearthe 575 range, which is where a gap lies and the week of March 24 high. Long SPX on 5/15/25 at 5916.93 Though there may be a consolidation in the coming weeks (see yesterday’s report); the larger trend remains up. The bottom window is the monthly GDX cumulative up-down volume with its Bollinger band, and the next higher window is the monthly GDX cumulative advance/decline with its Bollinger band. When both indicators remain above their mid-monthly Bollinger band, GDX is considered in an uptrend. It is said to be the first device to arrive with the flagship Qualcomm chipset. Xiaomi 16 could pack a triple rear camera setup, including three 50-megapixel sensors. The phone is tipped to offer battery improvements over its predecessor. Xiaomi 16 Specifications (Leaked) Tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo shared (via) alleged specifications of the Xiaomi 16. 5. Weak retail sales boost rate cut hopes as ASX climbs on Friday Weak retail sales boost rate cut hopes as ASX climbs on Friday Australia’s sharemarket rose for the second consecutive month in May, as traders dial up the chances of a rate cut in July following weaker than expected retail sales. The benchmark ASX 200 index gained 24.90 points or 0.30 per cent on the final day of trading for May. Australia’s major index has closed up 3.8 per cent in May which is the best monthly gain since January. Meanwhile the broader All Ordinaries also finished higher up 22.50 points or 0.26 per cent to finish the month at 8,660.30. The *********** dollar slipped 0.28 per cent during Friday’s trading and is now buying 64.26 US cents. Camera IconThe ASX had its best month since May. NewsWire / Jeremy Piper Credit: News Corp Australia On an overall positive day for the market, seven of the 11 sectors finished in the green, led by consumer staples, utilities and financials. The bounce in consumer staples was led by Treasury Wine Estates up 4.07 per cent to $8.44, while the A2Milk Company rose 3.35 per cent to $8.33. The two major supermarkets also finished in the green, with Woolworths gaining 0.70 per cent to $31.85 while Coles eked out a gain of 0.28 per cent to $21.60. All four of the major banks also finished higher during Friday’s trading. Westpac led the charge gaining 2.68 per cent to $32.56, NAB gained 1.33 per cent to $38.00, CBA jumped 0.87 per cent to $175.95 and ANZ finished higher up 0.41 per cent to $29.04. The gains come despite other Asian markets slumping on the back of the White House winning an administrative stay on the blockage of most of its tariffs by the US Court of International Trade. Capital.com senior financial market analyst Kyle Rodda said the US market gave back its gains after the tariff news was announced. “The caution reflects the fact that although market sentiment has been supported by the prospect of the judiciary halting arguably Presidential overreach with tariffs and trade policy, the decision marks the beginning of a new source of uncertainty rather than the total closure of another,” he said. Camera IconSeven of the 11 sectors finish in the green. NewsWire / Max Mason-Hubers Credit: News Corp Australia Australia’s sharemarket however was lifted on the back of weaker than expected retail sales. While this is bad for some businesses, the money markets factored in a greater chance of a rate cut in July following the announcement that retail sales fell 0.1 per cent over the month of April compared with expectations of a 0.3 per cent rise. AMP chief economist Shane Oliver said the results were surprising given Queensland was coming off a low base due to ex-Cyclone Alfred as well as most Aussies benefiting from a double Easter/Anzac Day long weekends. “Tax and rate cuts will help but the consumer is still clearly struggling with real retail sales per person trending down so far this year after a mild rise into late last year,” he wrote in an economic note. “The cost of living remains a problem – falling inflation is not the same thing as falling prices.” In company news, Ramsay Health Care jumped 5.89 per cent to $38.30 on the back of reports in the Newcastle Herald claiming the *********** hospital operator won approval of its new building applications in NSW. Shares in fintech Findi slumped 8.91 per cent $4.60 despite reporting a 54 per cent gain in underlying profits to $6m. Reform *** to accept donations via bitcoin, Nigel Farage says | Reform *** Reform *** to accept donations via bitcoin, Nigel Farage says | Reform *** Reform *** will accept donations through bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, Nigel Farage has announced. During an appearance at the Bitcoin Conference in Las Vegas, where he was introduced as a “*** presidential candidate”, Farage said: “As of now, provided you are an eligible *** donor … we are the first political party in Britain that can accept donations in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.” He said Reform was planning to introduce a cryptoassets and digital finance bill. This would cut capital gains tax on cryptoassets from 24% to 10%, turning the *** into a “crypto powerhouse”, he said. Farage added that the crypto legislation that his party had drawn up would include a “bitcoin digital reserve in the Bank of England”. Farage said the bill would make it ******** for banks to debank customers who use and trade in cryptocurrency. On Thursday the Reform website was updated to accept cryptocurrency donations. There was a disclaimer stating that all donations were subject to Electoral Commission rules and that anonymous donations were not permissible. At the conference, Farage called the acceptance of political donations “innovative”, before commending America for being “ahead” with their stance on digital assets. “My message to the British public, and my message particularly to young people, is to help us to help you bring our country properly into the 21st century,” he said. “Let’s recognise that crypto and digital assets are here to stay.” During his talk, Farage criticised the current Labour government and the previous Conservative regime’s lack of action in the cryptocurrency world. He said: “Rishi Sunak, when he was briefly prime minister, made one speech about crypto … and how London used to be a global financial centre. One speech and nothing else. Labour, well we have 25 men and women in cabinet and not a single one of them has worked in private business.” A Reform *** spokesperson said cryptocurrency donations would be accepted by the party and details were expected to be announced on Friday. Reform *** is listed on Companies House as a private company majority controlled by the leader, not a members’ association like other parties. 7. Starbucks just posted a $360K-salary job ad—but candidates need ‘tact and decorum’ and a specialist qualification to apply Starbucks just posted a $360K-salary job ad—but candidates need ‘tact and decorum’ and a specialist qualification to apply Starbucks is looking for an airplane captain, and it’s willing to pay upwards of $360,000 annually for the right person. Ideal candidates have “tact and decorum,” with a customer service flair that meshes well with the high-level executives flying for business. But being personable is just one piece of the equation—applicants need 5,000 hours of experience, a bachelor’s degree, and many certificates to make the cut. Starbucks is looking to fill a new role, but it looks far different from churning out lattes and breakfast wraps for hours on end. The coffee giant is now hiring a captain to fly its plane—and will pay a salary as high as $360,000 for the right talent. Many of the duties are straightforward: managing the flight and crew of the assigned aircraft, directing preflight planning, and evaluating risk factors to ensure the safest traveling possible. But the role isn’t for any flying novice; there are strict hurdles to even qualify, but it’s a shot at a job that pays 10 times as much as the typical barista gig and upwards of $160,000 more than the average airline and commercial pilot salary of $198,000 per year. Applicants must come prepared with a slew of certificates, and an “image that positively reflects the Starbucks Coffee Company,” as well as some other unusual requirements like “tact and decorum,” the job posting writes. The $111 billion coffee titan is not just looking for a pilot with professionalism, who will be a “Starbucks ambassador both at home and abroad.” Being a good culture fit is one thing, but having all the technical skills is another. The job posting lists a long list of preferred qualifications: a bachelor’s degree, five years of experience as a captain with a corporate flight department, and 5,000 hours of total flight time. A top candidate will also have international large-cabin business jet experience, strong problem-solving prowess, and organizational skills. Other essentials include a valid airline transport pilot certificate, a first class medical certificate, a valid passport, and an FCC restricted radio operator certificate. Customer service expertise is also a must—the posting notes the position regularly deals with the highest executive levels at Starbucks. Note: CEO Brian Niccol may even catch a ride, especially as he commutes from his home in Newport Beach, Calif., to Starbucks’ headquarters in Seattle. And yes, handling the passengers’ luggage is also part of the job. These job requirements are dizzying to many; it takes anywhere from five to eight years of experience to meet the bare minimum of being a major commercial airline pilot. Captains need to master different kinds of aircrafts, pass written and oral exams, and work their way up to multi-engine planes. It’s also worth noting that it’s not always the most comfortable gig. With no cushy office or remote setup to retreat to, pilots are moved around at the whim of their job. Story Continues Starbucks employs about 361,000 workers, with about 16,000 being in corporate. Many of the other roles include baristas, cashiers, warehouse workers, shift supervisors, and store managers. Earning $360,000 a year is out of the question for many. How much the average Starbucks barista brings home depends on the area they live in; in higher-paying states like New York it’s about $17 per hour, while in other places, pay might skew toward $15 hourly. The U.S. national average wage for a Starbucks barista is just over $32,000 annually, while higher earners in the role make about $37,500. That’s about 10 times lower than the potential wages of the pilots, and a far cry from the salaries of executives like Niccol, who was granted around $96 million—mostly in stock awards—after four months of work in 2024. 8. New AI test can predict which men will benefit from prostate ******* drug | Prostate ******* New AI test can predict which men will benefit from prostate ******* drug | Prostate ******* Doctors have developed an artificial intelligence tool that can predict which men with prostate ******* will benefit from a drug that halves the risk of dying. Abiraterone has been described as a “gamechanger” treatment for the disease, which is the most common form of ******* in men in more than 100 countries. It has already helped hundreds of thousands with advanced prostate ******* to live longer. But some countries, including England, have stopped short of offering the “spectacular” drug more widely to men whose disease has not spread. Now a team from the US, *** and Switzerland have built an AI test that shows which men would most likely benefit from abiraterone. The “exciting” breakthrough will enable healthcare systems to roll out the drug to more men, and spare others unnecessary treatment. The AI test is being unveiled in Chicago at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the world’s largest ******* conference. Nick James, professor of prostate and bladder ******* research at the Institute of ******* Research in London and a consultant clinical oncologist at the Royal Marsden NHS foundation trust, co-led the team that built it. “Abiraterone has already hugely improved the outlook for hundreds of thousands of men with advanced prostate *******,” said James. “We know that for many men with ******* that has not yet spread, it can also have spectacular results. “But it does come with side-effects and requires additional monitoring for potential issues with high blood pressure or liver abnormalities. It can also slightly increase the risk of diabetes and heart attacks, so knowing who is most likely to benefit is very valuable. “This research shows that we can pick out the people who will respond best to abiraterone, and those who will do well from standard treatment alone – hormone therapy and radiotherapy.” The test uses AI to study images of tumours and pick out features invisible to the human eye. The team, funded by Prostate ******* ***, the Medical Research Council and Artera, trialled the test on biopsy images from more than 1,000 men with high-risk prostate ******* that had not spread. The AI test identified the 25% of men in the group most likely to benefit from the abiraterone – for these men, the drug halves the risk of death. In the trial, patients received a score – biomarker-positive or -negative – which was compared with their outcomes. For those with biomarker-positive tumours, one in four of the men, abiraterone cut their risk of death after five years from 17% to 9%. For those with biomarker-negative tumours, abiraterone cut the risk of death from 7% to 4% – a difference that was not statistically or clinically significant, the team said. These men would benefit from standard therapy alone and be spared unnecessary treatment. skip past newsletter promotion Our morning email breaks down the key stories of the day, telling you what’s happening and why it matters Privacy Notice: Newsletters may contain info about charities, online ads, and content funded by outside parties. It is approved for NHS use in England for advanced prostate *******, but not for newly diagnosed high-risk disease that has not spread. However, it has been available for men with this indication in Scotland and Wales for two years. “Abiraterone costs just £77 per pack, compared with the thousands of pounds that new drugs cost,” said James. “I truly hope that this new research – showing precisely who needs the drug to live well for longer – will lead to NHS England reviewing their decision not to fund abiraterone for high-risk prostate ******* that has not spread.” Dr Matthew Hobbs, director of research at Prostate ******* ***, described the AI test as “exciting”. He added: “We therefore echo the researchers’ urgent call for abiraterone to be made available to those men whose lives it can save – men who, thanks to this research, we can now identify more precisely than ever before.” Source link #test #predict #men #benefit #prostate #******* #drug #Prostate #******* Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  16. Veteran ****** still not out of concussion protocols Veteran ****** still not out of concussion protocols Veteran Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney will miss his fourth consecutive AFL match after the club deemed him still not ready to return from concussion. Viney was named in the Demons’ extended squad for Sunday’s clash with St Kilda in Alice Springs, but the decision was made not to play him following Friday morning’s training session. The 31-year-old hasn’t played since suffering delayed concussion symptoms following the club’s round eight win over West Coast on May 3 “Jack has been slowly improving but unfortunately is not quite ready to return this week,” Melbourne’s general manager of football performance Alan Richardson said. “Following our training session this morning, it was decided Jack wasn’t quite ready for the demands of an AFL game. “The objective measures are tracking well, and he will still travel with the team to Alice Springs where he will complete a game-load training session.” West Coast star Jeremy McGovern was concussed in the same game as Viney, and his future hangs in the balance. McGovern, who has suffered multiple concussions throughout his decorated 197-game career, must front an expert concussion panel to be cleared to play again. West Coast are still unsure when that panel will be assembled, with McGovern restricted to light work in the meantime. “Gov’s doing well. He’s been in the club this week, and he’s been really active in our meetings,” said West Coast coach Andrew McQualter. “So he’s in a good spot, and we’ll just wait until he’ll hear further (from the panel).” Melbourne (5-6) have made just one change for the match against St Kilda, with Bailey Laurie replacing Charlie Spargo (broken scapula). St Kilda (4-7) have named former Blue Jack Carroll for his Saints debut, while Dan Butler is back at AFL level after overcoming an achilles injury to make two appearances in the VFL. Darcy Wilson and Liam O’Connell were dropped. West Coast have recalled young forwards Jack Williams and Archer Reid to replace Jake Waterman (shoulder) and Bailey Williams (managed) for Sunday’s match against Geelong in Perth. First-year midfielder Bo Allan returns for his second match of the season in place of Tom Gross. Geelong’s only change was naming Connor O’Sullivan in place of Jed Bews (managed). Meanwhile, Cats premiership midfielder Tom Atkins has signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to the club until the end of 2027. Atkins, who was set to become a free agent at the end of the year, is averaging career-high numbers in contested possessions (11.45) and clearances (5.55), while also leading the competition in tackles, averaging 9.9 per game. 22. Hideo Kojima Requests a Favor From Robert Pattinson at Cannes, Hints at a Potential Collaboration With the Batman Star Hideo Kojima Requests a Favor From Robert Pattinson at Cannes, Hints at a Potential Collaboration With the Batman Star Cannes Film Festival had its fair share of glitz and glamour, but one of the most interesting moments didn’t happen on the red carpet, it happened behind the scenes. Hideo Kojima, the legendary game creator, was short on tickets for an afterparty and decided to message Robert Pattinson for help. Without missing a beat, Pattinson sent over the extras. It was a small favor, but fans immediately started connecting the dots. Kojima has a habit of turning friendly meetups into big collaborations, and with Death Stranding 2 almost here and his next game Physint, in early stages, the timing couldn’t be more interesting. Now people are wondering, is Pattinson the next big star to enter Kojima’s gaming world? Here is more on that! Robert Pattinson and Hideo Kojima is definitely up to something! Fans are eager to find out! Robert Pattinson might be known for fighting crime in Gotham, but when he’s not being The Batman, he’s just a regular guy who loves video games, especially Final Fantasy VII. So it’s no surprise that he and Hideo Kojima, one of gaming’s biggest names, would eventually cross paths. Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in The Batman | image: Warner Bros., DC Studios At Cannes this year, that moment happened (although they did meet once in 2024, but this time was more meaningful). Kojima revealed on the TBS Podcast needed a couple of extra tickets to an afterparty and reached out to Pattinson, who happily helped out (via X.com). That simple favor has now sparked a ton of fan theories. Kojima has a history of working with actors he admires, Norman Reedus, Kiefer Sutherland, and even directors like Guillermo del Toro have ended up in his games. At Cannes, Kojima was clearly excited to see Pattinson, even snapping photos with posters of his new movie, Die My Love, (via X.com), which has been getting amazing reviews. Fans noticed, and now they’re wondering if this was more than just a friendly meetup. Kojima’s next project, Physint, is being made with a movie studio and will mix gaming with film like never before. Pattinson’s a busy guy with many movies on the way, but a smaller role could be doable. Only time will tell! What is Hideo Kojima currently working on? Hideo Kojima may have become a legend in the world of video games, but deep down, he’s always been a filmmaker at heart. And now, after decades of sneaking through the shadows of Hollywood with game characters voiced by A-listers, he’s finally stepping into the spotlight with something that’s actually on film. Hideo Kojima | Credits: Game Trailers on YouTube That’s right! Death Stranding, his weird, wonderful post-apocalyptic game, is getting a full-blown live-action film adaptation with A24, the indie powerhouse known for artsy hits and award-season darlings. But Kojima isn’t stopping there. In classic Kojima fashion, he casually dropped some major news during an interview with Vogue Japan, that there’s also a Death Stranding anime in the works. Not teased, not theorized, but confirmed. Regarding the A24 film, he said, While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. Kojima says he’s not just making a game-to-movie adaptation, but he wants to create a Death Stranding film that could win over people who aren’t familiar with the world as well, and stand on its own merit. Could Pattinson star in this? For him, games and movies aren’t competitors, they’re two sides of the same coin. He believes the lines between them are already starting to blur and that, eventually, they’ll disappear entirely. That’s where his next big project, Physint, comes in, a hybrid PS6 title that’s part-game, part-movie, and fully Kojima. But it won’t be ready until around 2030. Fans are excited to see all that he has in store! 25. Rates higher for the third week in a row Rates higher for the third week in a row Mortgage interest rates edged higher this week. According to Freddie Mac, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate rose three basis points to 6.89%, and the 15-year fixed rate notched two basis points higher to 6.03%. It’s a difference that makes no real difference. It’s the third week in a row that the 30-year rate has moved higher. It began the month at 6.76%. The 10-year Treasury yield bounced off a one-week low yesterday, but only by a fraction. The handwringing in the bond market has been particularly vigorous lately, but no major damage has been done. The 10-year is a gauge of mortgage rates and is about a quarter point higher on the month — yet down from its mid-month high. Here are today’s mortgage refinance interest rates, according to the latest Zillow data: 30-year fixed: 6.88% 20-year fixed: 6.71% 15-year fixed: 6.13% 5/1 ARM: 7.33% 7/1 ARM: 6.95% 30-year VA: 6.42% 15-year VA: 5.94% 5/1 VA: 6.13% As with the purchase mortgage rates, these are national averages we’ve rounded to the nearest hundredth. Refinance rates can be higher than purchase mortgage rates, but that isn’t always the case. Use the mortgage calculator below to see how various mortgage rates will impact your monthly payments. The free Yahoo Finance mortgage payment calculator goes even deeper by including factors like homeowners insurance and property taxes in your calculation. You can even add private mortgage insurance costs and HOA dues if they apply to you. These monthly expenses, along with your mortgage principal and interest rate, will give you a realistic idea of what your monthly payment could be. A mortgage interest rate is a fee for borrowing money from your lender, expressed as a percentage. There are two basic types of mortgage rates: fixed and adjustable rates. A fixed-rate mortgage locks in your rate for the entire life of your loan. For example, if you get a 30-year mortgage with a 6% interest rate, your rate will stay at 6% for the entire 30 years. (Unless you refinance or sell the home.) An adjustable-rate mortgage keeps your rate the same for the first few years, then changes it periodically. Let’s say you get a 5/1 ARM with an introductory rate of 6%. Your rate would be 6% for the first five years and then the rate would increase or decrease once per year for the last 25 years of your term. Whether your rate goes up or down depends on several factors, such as the economy and U.S. housing market. At the beginning of your mortgage term, most of your monthly payment goes toward interest. As time passes, less of your payment goes toward interest, and more goes toward the mortgage principal or the amount you originally borrowed. Dig deeper: Adjustable-rate vs. fixed-rate mortgage — Which should you choose? Two categories determine mortgage rates: ones you can control and ones you cannot control. What factors can you control? First, you can compare the best mortgage lenders to find the one that gives you the lowest rate and fees. Second, lenders typically extend lower rates to people with higher credit scores, lower debt-to-income (DTI) ratios, and considerable down payments. If you can save more or pay down debt before securing a mortgage, a lender will probably give you a better interest rate. What factors can you not control? In short, the economy. The list of ways the economy impacts mortgage rates is long, but here are the basic details. If the economy — think employment rates, for example — is struggling, mortgage rates go down to encourage borrowing, which helps boost the economy. If the economy is strong, mortgage rates go up to temper spending. With all other things being equal, mortgage refinance rates are usually a little higher than purchase rates. So don’t be surprised if your refinance rate is higher than you may have expected. Two of the most common mortgage terms are 30-year and 15-year fixed-rate mortgages. Both lock in your rate for the entire loan term. A 30-year mortgage is popular because it has relatively low monthly payments. But it comes with a higher interest rate than shorter terms, and because you’re accumulating interest for three decades, you’ll pay a lot of interest in the long run. A 15-year mortgage can be great because it has a lower rate than you’ll get with longer terms, so you’ll pay less in interest over the years. You’ll also pay off your mortgage much faster. But your monthly payments will be higher because you’re paying off the same loan amount in half the time. Basically, 30-year mortgages are more affordable from month to month, while 15-year mortgages are cheaper in the long run. According to 2024 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data, some of the banks with the lowest median mortgage rates are Bank of America and Citibank. However, it’s a good idea to shop around for the best rate with not just banks, but also credit unions and companies specializing in mortgage lending. Yes, 2.75% is a fantastic mortgage rate. You’re unlikely to get a 2.75% rate in today’s market unless you take on an assumable mortgage from a seller who locked in this rate in 2020 or 2021, when rates were at all-time lows. According to Freddie Mac, the lowest-ever 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 2.65%. This was the national average in January 2021. It is extremely unlikely that rates will dip below 3% again anytime soon. Some experts say it’s worth refinancing when you can lock in a rate that’s 2% less than your current mortgage rate. Others say 1% is the magic number. It all depends on what your financial goals are when refinancing and when your break-even point would be after paying refinance closing costs.
