  2. Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town Review (Switch) Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town Review (Switch) Japan and I have a close relationship. I had the great opportunity to live and study there. While in Japan, I heard whispers here and there about Yoshito Usui’s beloved Shin-chan, enough to realize that the mischievous five-year-old boy has been a household name since the 1990s. I admit that Shiro and the Coal Town is my first encounter with Shin-chan’s adventures. Before reviewing this, I’ve been wondering whether the latest Shin-chan title can really capture the ********* aesthetic, culture, and nature I experienced. I am happy to say that Shiro and the Coal Town delivers a good cozy depiction of ********* rural life wrapped in a hand-drawn anime-like presentation and highly accessible collect-a-thon mechanics. However, gameplay complexity and variety is lost as a result, while the title suffers from some awkward animations due to its fixed camera perspective. While its deliberate slow pace and simplicity won’t find a home with everyone, cozy game fans of all ages will appreciate Shin-chan’s latest adventure. Summer days in Akita Shiro and the Coal Town is a spiritual continuation of its predecessor, Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation. Shin-chan and family leave Kasukabe to visit the extended family home in the Akita prefecture. In this new location, the mischievous boy spends all summer unraveling the mysteries of two settings: the bright and summery Akita and the run down and cluttered Coal Town. The story can be enjoyed as a standalone experience, and the game does a great job at introducing you to beloved characters. Shiro and the Coal Town features a simplistic 10 to 12-hours story covered in ********* humor. Don’t expect too much depth of narrative here. Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised to find explorations of contemporary topics that have affected ********* society and the world at large. Shin-chan features themes of re-connecting with nature through its collect-a-thon mechanics of bug catching, fishing, farming, and more. Coal Town acts as a front for exploring the effects of industrialization, whereas the contrasting Akita location touches on deindustrialization and rural population decline. Shin-chan’s latest adventure is essentially a quest to help both Akita and Coal Town find their identity in a world that has moved on. The characters are the highlights of the narrative experience. Fans of Shin-chan will recognize beloved characters returning. Those new to the franchise will find much joy in meeting zany personalities and anime tropes like the raunchy grandpa, the inept dad, the quippy Shin-chan, and more. Newcomers may need some time to acclimatize to the humor, although the silly approach to interactions is mostly a hit. However, not all characters are given the same screentime and attention. For example, the villain is often relegated to a background role, and I wouldn’t blame you if you forgot all about him. Relax, stay a while Shiro and the Coal Town is a collect-a-thon through-and-through. Gameplay-wise, you play as Shin-chan as you explore Akita and Coal Town to catch bugs and items, fish, grow vegetables, and more. As you collect more and more, your book or compendium will fill with information. You will have to meet a certain character repeatedly to report your findings and in return receive yen as payment for your trouble. Shin-chan can use this currency to purchase and exchange other items. Progression to different areas is also tied to collecting certain items in return to access. This is a safe and standard way of doing things. Shiro and the Coal Town is not an open world game. Rather, it is a streamlined experience that guides players from zone to zone. There is a time passing mechanic that changes the setting and what you can collect over a day. This includes morning, afternoon, and night-time. While I appreciated this time passing mechanic and the scenery changes that it brought, it felt underdeveloped. For example, exploring Akita at night-time will introduce you to some new bugs like fireflies. However, there is still a lack of bug and fish varieties during these times. The absence of other characters to interact with is also a sore point of exploring at night-time. The gameplay is very accessible to a wider audience. There is no stake or penalty for failing to catch bugs or fish as these will respawn. If you get caught up exploring too late at night, you will automatically fall asleep and be transported back to the comfort of your home. Your trusty side-kick Shiro, the wonder dog, will also help you locate items to collect. The collect-a-thon mini-games of catching bugs is fun and easy. However, the fixed camera perspective sometimes makes the catching feel awkward. The perspective often tricked me into thinking that I aligned Shin-chan well enough to catch the bug with the net. I realized how wrong I was when I frequently missed my positioning. The fish catching mini-game is equally simple. It is a timed mini-game similar to Animal Crossing, although it lacks polish or the sense of fair challenge that is found in Stardew Valley. Speaking of Stardew Valley, Shiro and the Coal Town also features a basic crop growing mini-game where Shin-chan can water crops on a daily basis. Once again, however, there are no downsides to neglecting that because Shin-chan still has to wait a few days for crops to grow depending on the type. In terms of gameplay, Shiro and the Coal Town is safe, accessible, and a jack of all trades. “Animed” to perfection Shiro and the Coal Town has a beautiful art style that stays faithful to the anime and manga. The hand-drawn environments are the star of the show. Akita’s nature is summery, bright, colorful, and a joy to get lost in. The presentation is outstanding and this extends to the great minimalist soundtrack and the sound design. The original score brings notes of nostalgia and reminisces of the days where life is simple, slow, and aimless. The sound design sells the experience of being among nature as cicadas and other bugs cry in the distance. On the other hand, Coal Town is made to look cluttered, run down, and abrasive. It is an immersive experience that reminds me of the very best slice of life anime. This presentation is backed-up by a polished experience. Shin-chan looks great in handheld mode on the Nintendo Switch. It runs very well and feels right at home on the Switch. I have not encountered any performance issues or glitches. The English localization is also great and adapts the ********* jokes well to the context. I think the game is a great way to practice your ********* given that it features ********* voice acting and English subtitles. Shiro and the Coal Town is a charming title, and should be regarded as one of the best looking games of the year. Summary Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town delivers a good cozy experience of ********* culture and rural life wrapped in a hand-drawn anime-like presentation and highly accessible and simple collect-a-thon mechanics. However, gameplay complexity and variety leave more to be desired, while the title suffers from some awkward animations due to its fixed camera perspective. I recommend Shiro and the Coal Town to cozy game fans and players who are open to a simple and slower slice of life sim. Shiro and the Coal Town reminded me of those long summer days spent in Japan hearing crying cicadas in the distance. Shin-chan allowed me to quickly return to those memories. For that, I am most thankful. Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC. 3. Former pupil restrained at school wins case Former pupil restrained at school wins case Getty Images A spokesperson for the school said it was “naturally disappointed” by the judgement A man found to have been repeatedly restrained and once detained for nearly five hours at his former school will receive £18,900 in damages. He was a pupil at the Mulberry Bush School in Standlake, Oxfordshire, more than a decade ago but the claim was decided at the High Court on Friday. A judge found he was restrained face down by staff three times and that others placed a towel around the door of his room to stop him leaving it 14 times. The private residential special school said it was “naturally disappointed” by the outcome and that it was “potentially seeking permission to appeal”. Amelia Walker, representing the man’s family in court, said the restraints imposed on him were “inevitably humiliating and degrading, as well as dangerous”. Judge Margaret Obi found the restraints constituted battery and that being prevented from leaving his room constituted unlawful imprisonment. Catherine Foster, representing the school, said the man was “restrained legitimately” 117 times at the school on other occasions. She said the school felt the restraints were “a necessary and proportionate means of managing disruptive behaviour”. The judge said she was satisfied he was left “distressed and humiliated by the experience of being restrained face down”. She said the school continued to use towels to restrict his movement even though social services previously “made it clear” that was inappropriate. Ofsted found pupils “thrive” at the “transformative” school, which inspectors said had a “highly ambitious and broad” curriculum, at an inspection in September. In a statement, a school spokesperson said it was “important to note that the court found that there was no negligence” found on its part. But they said there were other elements in the judgement the school found were “inconsistent” with previous hearings. The spokesperson added: “We have been working with children and families affected by complex emotional needs for 75 years and always endeavour to do what is right and best for every individual child. “This work is never done in isolation and we always work closely with everyone involved in a child’s care.” Source link #pupil #restrained #school #wins #case Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  5. Spirit Cuts Flights to Los Angeles, Nashville, Dallas, and More in Latest Shake-up Spirit Cuts Flights to Los Angeles, Nashville, Dallas, and More in Latest Shake-up The airline wants to focus on its most popular routes. Aaron P./Bauer-Griffin/GC Images Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is cutting dozens more flights across the country in a shake-up aimed at directing resources to the most popular routes. The airline will cut 24 different routes from Nashville to Los Angeles and beyond, the company confirmed to Travel + Leisure. The cuts will take effect over the course of the next few months. “We routinely evaluate our network and make adjustments to support the company’s business strategy based on current market and operating conditions,” a Spirit spokesperson told T+L. “As part of this process, we updated our upcoming schedule to focus on our strongest performing routes.” Starting immediately, the company has ended flights from Columbus to Tampa, from San Antonio to Tampa, from Nashville to Los Angeles, from Burbank to Sacramento, from Cleveland to Orlando, from Dallas to San Antonio, from Dallas to Chicago, from Newark to San Antonio, from Fort Lauderdale to Phoenix, from Las Vegas to Richmond, from Los Angeles to Oakland, and from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh. On Dec. 2, the airline will cut flights from Dallas to Tampa, followed a day later by Charlotte to Houston, Dallas to Houston, and San Diego to Sacramento. Then on Jan. 8, 2025, Spirit will cut Boston to Newark, Charlotte to Dallas, Charlotte to Los Angeles, and Columbus to Los Angeles, followed by cutting Los Angeles to both San Antonio and Salt Lake City in March. Spirit will also cut two international routes from Fort Lauderdale to both San Salvador, El Salvador, and Managua, Nicaragua, on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11, 2025, respectively. The cuts come as Spirit revamped its fare classes, adding more inclusive options, and eliminated most change and cancellation fees. The airline is also reportedly in talks to merge with fellow low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines after a federal judge blocked a proposed merger between the airline and JetBlue. This also isn’t the first time Spirit has cut routes. Last month, the carrier similarly cut dozens of routes, continuing to struggle since those initial JetBlue merger plans ended. It was probably for the best because the Ipswich boss admits he’s “not very good” at karaoke. “There were no sing-songs, but the players are delighted,” said McKenna. “They know this is a win to cherish, but they also know where we want to get to as a club – winning games in the Premier League – and we know this season that’s going to be a challenge. “It’s been a big journey to get to this point.” After failing to earn a swift return to the Premier League following relegation in 2002, Ipswich reached the Championship play-offs just once after 2005 and were relegated to League One in 2019. “It’s a really significant moment and a day to cherish in the recent history of the club,” McKenna said. “You look at the journey the club has been on in the past 22 years, the ups and downs, some heights but some depths as well. “For the supporters to see their club win in the Premier League at a fantastic club like Tottenham, in a stadium like this against a team like that, it is a massive day for them.” Ipswich ******* to make the play-offs in their first two seasons in League One and were 12th in December 2021, when McKenna was named as Paul Cook’s successor. In his first full season the Tractor Boys were promoted as runners-up and they repeated the feat in the Championship last season. “For us who have been involved in the journey for the past couple of years, it’s a really significant day as well,” McKenna added. “Everyone’s delighted but I know that pretty quickly we’ll all move on to the next thing.” Source link #Ipswich #Town #beat #Tottenham #Sheeran #plays #part #massive #day #Tractor #Boys Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  7. Schmidt plays down Wallabies ‘grand slam’ ambitions Schmidt plays down Wallabies ‘grand slam’ ambitions Coach Joe Schmidt offers only a wise, wry smile when the outlandish prospect of a first British Isles ‘grand slam’ for the Wallabies in 40 years is broached. Yet following a dramatic weekend of ********* rugby, suddenly perhaps the prospect didn’t seem such a distant pipedream after all, even for a pragmatist like him. “The grand slam may still be alive,” acknowledged Schmidt after his side had, almost miraculously, avoided tumbling at the first of the four hurdles against England at Twickenham, escaping to run out as last-gasp, 42-37 winners. “But we won’t look too far ahead.” Indeed, he said, he and his coaching staff would be looking only at the next game against Wales at the Principality Stadium on Sunday, up against the side who had dismantled them at last year’s World Cup. Still, what he saw on TV on Sunday, as Wales lost for the 10th Test in succession – this time 24-19 to Fiji – can surely, secretly at least, only have encouraged the dreamer in the New Zealander. Doubtless he would never admit to it but the team coached by his Kiwi colleague Warren Gatland looks there for the taking, shambolic at times during their first-ever loss on home soil to the Pacific islanders. A win in Cardiff, of course, would take the Wallabies halfway to their goal of emulating the Mark Ella-inspired class of 1984, but, even then, Schmidt would only outline the monumental nature of what would come afterwards. For not only will Australia now have to face a team driven by desperation to avoid a record 11th straight defeat in Cardiff, but then comes a Scotland side who, Schmidt noted, “were really impressive in beating Fiji last week”. And that was before the Scots even gave world champs South ******* a run for their money for much of Sunday’s clash at Murrayfield, until eventually succumbing 30-15. Then there’s a reunion with some old friends in Dublin. “I still know some of those Irish guys quite well,” grinned Ireland’s former coach Schmidt. “So we’ll see where we get to there.” Yet even if the slam is a long way off, there was no question the Wallabies’ epic triumph on Saturday has already transformed the confidence of his squad, as Schmidt reflected: “I’m not sure we’ve turned it around. I think we’re turning. “Inevitably, progress is never linear, so there’ll be a few peaks and troughs on the way further forward, but I’ve found a really good bunch of people, both in the staff and in the playing group. “The players can grow confidence in themselves. And I thought some of the skill exhibited, some of the things we’ve been working really hard on, were certainly visible, which gives us a bit of confidence, certainly gives the players a bit of confidence. “I think there’s green shoots.” Source link #Schmidt #plays #Wallabies #grand #slam #ambitions Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  9. Beach store in Cherry Grove, SC severely damaged after an overnight hit and run Beach store in Cherry Grove, SC severely damaged after an overnight hit and run A driver ran into the front of a beach boutique and rental equipment shop overnight Saturday in Cherry Grove, destroying furniture and cracking a window, store owners said on social media No one was injured, but security footage showed a person made a left turn on to Main Street from Hillside Drive and went too wide, Cherry Grove Beach Services owner Derek Calhoun told The Sun News on Sunday. The driver hit a picnic table and dragged it to the front of Cherry Grove Beach Services where the table hit the front windows and doors of the shop, breaking them. The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 9 and the person was driving a red car, Calhoun said. After the accident, the person drove away. Kim Perkins, the owner of Mainstreet Bakery and Eatery came in around 3:30 a.m., saw the damage and called the police as well as Calhoun. The picnic table was destroyed and the front door was cracked open with multiple holes. The owners asked anyone with information to contact to North Myrtle Beach Police Department. The Sun News requested the incident report from North Myrtle Beach Police. If it wasn’t for the table, the car may have driven farther into the restaurant, Calhoun said. He and his wife were able to clean the glass and open on Saturday. Cherry Grove Beach Services will remain open during repairs. “It could’ve been a lot worse,” Calhoun said. The accident happened a day after Cherry Grove Beach Services announced its Beach Express Shops, which will offer beach equipment rental at the Ocean Drive Pavilion, Harold’s on the Ocean and Ocean Drive Beach and Golf Resort. Two years ago, Cherry Grove Beach Services sued the city of North Myrtle Beach and accused the city of having a monopoly on beach rental equipment setup on the beach. In September, a judge sided with the city and said it was legally allowed to have a monopoly on beach chair and umbrella set up. Cherry Grove Beach Services incurred over $20,000 worth of fines after they continued to set up beach chairs and umbrellas for patrons despite being told to stop by the city, The Sun News previously reported. 14. Eastern Cuba rocked by magnitude 6.8 earthquake Eastern Cuba rocked by magnitude 6.8 earthquake A 6.8 magnitude earthquake has rocked eastern Cuba, according to the US Geological Survey, shaking buildings in Santiago de Cuba, the island’s second largest city, and the surrounding countryside. The quake struck Cuba’s southeastern coast in Granma province near the municipality of Bartolome Maso, the home of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s headquarters during the Cuban Revolution. Reuters spoke with several residents in the area who reported the quake felt as strong as any in their lifetimes. Homes and buildings shook violently, they said, and dishes rattled off shelves. Some damage was reported in Pilon, near the quake’s epicentre. Many of the region’s homes and buildings are older and vulnerable. Residents in Santiago were left shaken on Sunday. Yolanda Tabío, 76, said people in the city flocked to the streets and were still nervously sitting in their doorways. She said she felt at least two aftershocks following the quake but that among friends and family she had not heard of any damages. “You had to see how everything was moving, the walls, everything,” she told the Associated Press. The quake was at a depth of 14km, USGS said. The earthquake was earlier measured at a magnitude of 5.8, a figure that has been revised upwards. The US National Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat expected as a result of this quake. The quake is the most recent in a string of natural disasters to strike Cuba. Much of the eastern end of the island was ravaged by Hurricane Oscar in October. Last week, Cuba’s grid collapsed after Hurricane Rafael hit the western end of the island, leaving 10 million people without power. Recovery efforts are still underway. Rolling blackouts remain the norm across much of eastern Cuba, where Sunday’s earthquake struck, complicating communications. Most seismic activity in Cuba takes place in the region around Santiago. A fault line runs along the island’s southeastern coast, marking the boundary between the North ********* plate and the Caribbean plate, according to Cuba’s seismic service. 15. That’s the belief voiced by former Harris communications director Jamal Simmons on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday. The move would benefit the party in several ways, he added. “It would absolve her from having to oversee the January 6th transition, right, of her own defeat. And it would make sure, it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn, drama and transparency and doing things the public want to see — this is the time, this is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate.” “Okay, this has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show!” Dana Bash exclaimed. “Congratulations!” Dems have better policies but we must realize the old rules no longer apply. We are not playing table tennis. We are in a mixed martial arts ****** and Americans respond to drama and excitement. Let’s at least allow America to finally have a woman in the Oval Office, even if only for 2 1/2 months…” he wrote on the platform. The suggestion that Biden resign and let Harris become president has bubbled up from social media chatter to mainstream reporting this week. On Saturday, The Guardian published a reader letter that read, “Joe Biden should resign on his 82nd birthday on 20 November, allowing Kamala Harris to become America’s first female president, till 20 January. Watch Police PIT A Range Rover Into The Stratosphere Watch Police PIT A Range Rover Into The Stratosphere Read the full story on The Auto Wire Watch Police PIT A Range Rover Into The Stratosphere Chick got what she deserved. Running from the police is dangerous and *****. Few people have the vehicle or driving skills to pull it off, so in the end they rack up at least a felony or two, not to mention a bunch of other charges, and that’s a best-case scenario. As this ********* mastermind out of Arkansas shows us, it could be even worse because cops might do a PIT that sends your Range Rover or whatever other poor choice of a getaway car flying. Watch an insane chase between a motorcycle cop and two suspects on a motorcycle here. First off, it’s impressive a Range Rover kept running as long as this one did in such an intense chase. If you’ve ever had the misfortune of owning one or any other Land Rover, you know how random and often critical parts break all the time. Because of that fact, we don’t really mourn the loss of one like we would a car that actually runs. Oh and this one has a rattle can paint job, so it’s even more ghetto than most. What started this whole chase was an Arkansas State Police trooper running the tags, which came back as fictitious. So the driver likely knew why the trooper was trying to pull her over. What the trooper didn’t know was the driver had several warrants out of two jurisdictions, so she’s not exactly unfamiliar with law enforcement. Perhaps knowing getting caught meant a whole heap of trouble, this chick really pushed the Range Rover. Not able to shake the trooper, she feints a turn, then wiggles out of the first PIT attempt, so it’s entirely possible she has some experience in car chases. But her luck didn’t last long as the determined trooper went in for the ***** and the PIT sent the British POS SUV flying like a rocket ship. That nosedive into the pavement must’ve rattled the suspect’s bones because she doesn’t try jumping out of the Range Rover to make a run for it on foot. Instead, she whines to the trooper, asking “why would you do that to me?” Ah yes, ********** are always victims, aren’t they? Story continues Follow The Auto Wire on Google News. 19. Dutch police use hologram in bid to solve cold case ******* of Amsterdam **** worker Dutch police use hologram in bid to solve cold case ******* of Amsterdam **** worker In Amsterdam’s Red Light District, the hologram of a woman sits behind a window. She looks out at passers-by, then appears to knock on the window and breathe on the glass. The glass seemingly fogs up, and the word “help” appears. This hologram is modeled on Bernadett “Betty” Szabó, a 19-year-old Hungarian **** worker who was murdered in the Dutch capital in 2009. Now, more than 15 years after her ******, police are hoping to uncover new information about her ********. Szabó grew up in ******** in the Hungarian city of Nyíregyháza, before moving to Amsterdam when she was 18 years old and beginning work as a ***********, Dutch police said in a statement. She quickly became pregnant, but continued to work throughout her pregnancy, giving birth to her son in November 2008. Three months later, she was found ***** in her workroom, lying in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed “dozens of times,” Dutch police said. Despite a large-scale investigation, in which police monitored CCTV, interviewed witnesses, and combed over the ****** scene, the case eventually became cold. The holographic representation of Szabó was created to reach those who may know something about her ******* but did not come forward when it happened. Bernadett “Betty” Szabó was murdered in February 2009, three months after giving birth to her son. – Dutch Police “It is difficult to determine what it takes to get possible witnesses in this case to share their information with us,” Benjamin van Gogh, coordinator of the Amsterdam Wanted and Missing Persons Team, said in the statement. “Betty’s hologram may create a certain connection with her and thus convince a person to come forward. In this type of case, we always try to put a face on a victim, so that informants know who they’re doing it for, and the hologram is a way of taking this a step further.” The police force discussed the campaign with Szabó’s family, van Gogh said, adding that it is “committed to doing this with dignity and with the clear purpose of achieving some form of justice for Betty by finding her ********* or murderers.” Eline Roovers, a spokesperson for Amsterdam Police, told CNN that it is “never too late to talk.” “Research shows that people who commit a ****** like this usually tell multiple people – 2.2 persons to be exact – what they have done. This means that there must be people that know more about Betty’s ******,” she said. The reward for information related to the case has been raised to €30,000 (around $32,160). Amsterdam gets tourists from around the world, Roovers pointed out, so police are urging those who visited the city in February 2009 to get in touch if they know anything more about the case. 20. Frankfurt edge Stuttgart 3-2 in Bundesliga epic Frankfurt edge Stuttgart 3-2 in Bundesliga epic Omar Marmoush has scored from a free-kick for the third time in three matches as third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt weathered an early and late VfB Stuttgart storm to pick up a 3-2 away win in the Bundesliga. Last season’s surprise runners-up Stuttgart, without injured Germany forward Deniz Undav, hit the bar twice in Sunday’s match through Ermedin Demirovic. The Bosnia striker also saw his poor penalty easily saved by Kevin Trapp after Angelo Stiller had been tripped by Hugo Larsson. Jeff Chabot then thought he had finally put the hosts into the lead but his header from a free-kick was ruled out for offside. Frankfurt’s much-vaunted *******, including Bundesliga second top scorer and assist king Marmoush, struggled early on after the Egyptian missed a good chance. But after Stuttgart’s three big opportunities, Marmoush’s corner was superbly headed in by strike partner Hugo Ekitiké just before the interval. Nathaniel Brown’s tap-in after Ansgar Knauff’s run and deflected cross made it 2-0 before Marmoush’s latest free-kick goal after strikes in the 1-0 Europa League win over Slavia Prague on Thursday and last weekend’s 7-2 thrashing of Bochum. Josha Vagnoman and Nick Woltemade then slashed the deficit and Chris Führich thought he had netted an incredible equaliser in stoppage time, only for video review to chalk it off for offside. “That would have been very, very annoying if we had led 3-0 and not have won that,” Frankfurt’s Trapp told DAZN. “You can’t stop playing just because you are 3-0 up.” Stuttgart sit 11th while Frankfurt are three points clear in third, just a point behind second-placed RB Leipzig. Hoffenheim earlier lifted themselves out of the Bundesliga relegation play-off spot into fourth-bottom with a 0-0 draw at Augsburg. The mid-table hosts dominated the first half and had several chances. Hoffenheim improved after the break but Augsburg’s Arne Maier and Steve Mounié then arguably had the best opportunities of the second *******. The point may not be enough for Hoffenheim coach Pellegrino Matarazzo to keep his job before the next game against Leipzig on November 23. “We will certainly talk to him,” sporting director Andreas Schicker told reporters. “The number of points we have is not what we wanted.” Wolfsburg moved away from the drop zone after their third away win of the season in a 3-1 victory at Heidenheim in the final game of matchday 10 before the international break. On Saturday, Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top to five points with a 1-0 win over promoted St Pauli. 21. OKC police release bodycam footage of use-of-force incident involving 70-year-old man OKC police release bodycam footage of use-of-force incident involving 70-year-old man An Oklahoma City Police Department officer is on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation into a use-of-force incident involving a 70-year-old man continues. The department has released body camera footage of an Oct. 27 interaction between the officer and Lich Vu following a vehicle collision near NW 39 and Meridian Avenue, The officer appears to throw Vu to the ground during an argument in which Vu refused to sign a ticket for an alleged improper U-turn. Vu was hospitalized following the incident. Following the collision, police said, Vu allegedly tried to reach into the other motorist’s car and spoke about punching her. No contact was made, according to police. The body camera footage starts with Vu in the driver’s seat of his car, his door open and the officer explaining why he is writing the ticket for an improper U-turn. “I didn’t do that,” Vu said. Moments later, he got out of the car. As the argument continued, the officer is heard telling Vu if he didn’t sign the ticket he would go to jail. “I’m ready to go to jail,” Vu said. “You’re ready to go to jail?” the officer said. “Ridiculous. OK. That involves impounding your car too.” The officer then briefly spoke with the other motorist involved in the collision. He issued a ticket to the motorist. When the officer returned to speak with Vu, the argument about Vu’s ticket continued. Vu appears to slap the officer’s chest. “You shut up,” Vu said. The officer appears to grab Vu’s arm before throwing him to the ground and handcuffing him. Police said the handcuffs were removed after a call to paramedics. KWTV-9 reported that Vu’s daughter said Vu has had surgery to repair a brain bleed, and he has a fractured neck that has caused him to need a tube to eat. The Police Department said in a statement the incident ******** under investigation and will be presented to the District Attorney’s office. “The Oklahoma City Police Department is dedicated to transparency and accountability,” the department said. “We want our community to know that this case is being thoroughly investigated and the review process will take time to complete. We ask for your patience as we work to conclude this investigation.” This article originally appeared on Oklahoman: OKC police release footage of use-of-force incident with elderly man Source link #OKC #police #release #bodycam #footage #useofforce #incident #involving #70yearold #man Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  22. The 2 things that will drive the stock market after last week’s Trump-Fed rally The 2 things that will drive the stock market after last week’s Trump-Fed rally President Donald Trump looks on as his nominee for the chairman of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell takes to the podium during a press event in the Rose Garden at the White House, November 2, 2017 in Washington, DC. Drew Angerer | Getty Images Talk about an eventful week. Normally, when the Fed cuts interest rates, that would be the big story. However, Thursday’s Federal Reserve meeting pales in comparison to Tuesday’s presidential election, which yielded a winner before the sun came up the next morning. Stock Chart IconStock chart icon Performance since Nov. 1 close The stock market reaction Wednesday to *********** Donald Trump’s victory over Democrat Kamala Harris was swift and powerful, sending the Dow, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq to all-time highs. The Fed rate cut the next day was icing on the cake for market bulls, with gains for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. The Dow on Thursday was flat. On Friday, the Dow went above 44,000 for the first time ever, and the S&P 500 topped 6,000 for the first time ever. They closed just below those levels. All three stock benchmarks finished the week at closing record highs. For the week, the Dow and S&P 500 both gained more than 4.6%. They had their best weeks of the year and their first positive weeks in the past three. The Nasdaq rose 5.7% for the week. The tech-heavy index’s weekly gain, while the strongest of the three, was only its best since September. For the week, consumer discretionary, energy, industrials, financials, and information technology were the top five sectors. s&p 500 sectors for the weekSectors WTD change YTD change Consumer Discretionary7.62%22.81%Energy 6.16%12.16%Industrials 5.93%24.41%Financials 5.53%30.46%Information Technology5.44%36.14%Communication Services3.72%34.93%Real Estate 2.67%9.35%Health Care 1.57%9.95%Materials 1.46%9.99%Utilities 1.20%24.72%Consumer Staples 1.20%14.31% Source: FactSet Last week, we sold shares of industrial laggard Honeywell into strength three times, bringing the position down to levels that Jim Cramer said won’t hurt us. On Wednesday, when the already running Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley both surged double-digits on a percentage basis after the Trump win, our discipline called for us to take some profits, which we did. BlackRock, one of our newer positions, was not participating in Wednesday’s rally in financials, so took some of those bank stock proceeds and bought some more shares of the world’s biggest asset manager. We said last weekend that the risk to the market was not so much who won, but that whoever won did so decisively. That’s exactly what we got. Wall Street, however, has traditionally liked gridlock in Washington over the long term, a situation created by a split Congress or the White House controlled by one party and Capitol Hil by the other. The exact combination ******** up in the air. While the presidential race was decided quickly and the Republicans flipped the Senate, there were still House races too close to call, according to NBC News. As of Sunday afternoon, Republicans needed to win six of them to capture the majority. Only time will tell how the balance of power will play out and whether it’s good or bad for the stock market. But one thing we do know is that Trump likes to grade himself on how the market performs. In Trump’s first term, from Inauguration Day 2017 to his last day in office, the S&P 500 gained 67%. Barring anything catastrophic, President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris will hand Trump the baton of a healthy economy with moderating inflation and a strong stock market. In the week ahead, two government inflation reports are released that Wall Street and the Fed will be watching closely. Earnings season starts to wind down and only two Club names, Home Depot and Disney, report quarterly results. Economy The big economic report for the week, the October consumer price index, comes out before Wednesday’s opening bell. According to estimates compiled by FactSet, economists are looking for a 2.6% annual increase in headline CPI, slightly hotter than in September. The core rate, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, is seen rising 3.3% on a year-over-year basis, matching the prior month. The shelter component of the CPI, which accounts for roughly one-third of the entire index, will also be a key focus given how sticky the cost of housing inflation has been. While not as closely watched as the CPI, the October producer price index, which is out Thursday, could influence the markets. The monthly PPI readings are still important to monitor as they show wholesale prices that companies pay, often referred to as input costs, and whether they need to raise consumer prices to protect their margins. According to FactSet, economists expect to see a 2.3% annual increase in headline PPI and a 2.9% year-over-year increase in the core rate.Among the other data points this week, October retail sales and October industrial production are both out Friday. Retail sales give us a snapshot of the state of the consumer and where they’re focusing their buying power in the lead-up to the holiday shopping season. Roughly two-thirds of the nation’s economy is driven by consumer spending. The monthly industrial production and capacity utilization report provides insight into the manufacturing industry, which has been under pressure for quite a while, as well as the mining, and electric and gas utilities industries.Earnings For Home Depot, which reports third-quarter earnings before Tuesday’s opening bell, we want to hear what management sees on the ground in the housing market. Stock Chart IconStock chart icon Home Depot YTD We know longer-term bond yields have been ticking up and driving mortgage rates back up with them — so the benefit of stronger housing leading to more sales of building and renovation products might still be pushed out. We were encouraged to see bond yields drop on Thursday and Friday after spiking on Wednesday. We hope that continues with the Fed in easing mode and market odds favoring another rate cut in December. Additionally, a likely boost to Home Depot sales, partially in the reported quarter and likely more so going forward, will come from the recovery process after hurricanes Helene and Milton as insurance claims come through and homeowners look to rebuild. That said, we’re biding our time and predict that once the housing market really starts to inflect, Home Depot will be a primary beneficiary. As of Friday, consensus estimates call for Home Depot sales of $39.24 billion in the third quarter and earnings of $3.64 per share.Stock Chart IconStock chart icon Disney YTD Disney reports before the bell Thursday, and its experiences business will be in focus as it has softened recently due to the recent hurricane activity that forced closures at Florida theme park locations and inflation-weary consumers. Disneyland Paris will likely see some negative impact from the Summer Olympics, which were held in the city during the quarter. Disney’s direct-to-consumer business, however, should be a better story as profitability improves. Big content releases like the new season of the critically acclaimed television series “The Bear” and the movie “Inside Out 2,” which did nearly $1.7 billion worldwide in the theaters, should help with subscriber numbers. 25. Ferguson and Phillips star as New Zealand pip Sri Lanka Ferguson and Phillips star as New Zealand pip Sri Lanka Lockie Ferguson has snaffled a hat-trick as New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by five runs in a sensational finale to their Twenty20 international, leaving the two-game series drawn 1-1. New Zealand were bowled out for 108 in 19.3 overs in Sunday’s concluding match, yet managed to dismiss Sri Lanka for just 103 in 19.5 overs. As well as paceman Ferguson’s heroics, Glenn Phillips grabbed three wickets in four ******, and wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay pouched five catches and a stumping in a stunning win for the ****** Caps. Phillips got the key wicket from the second ball of the last over when opening batter Pathum Nissanka holed out at long on for 52. When Phillips got Matheesha Pathirana stumped off the next ball, he was on a hat-trick himself. Nuwan Thusara avoided the fate of being a hat-trick ball victim off the fourth ball of the over, and took a single. But Maheesh Theekshana, one of only three Sri Lankans to achieve double figures by reaching 14, sliced a catch to Hay to end the match. Ferguson had earlier turned the game around with 3-7 off his two overs, before he had to leave due to a strained calf. Ferguson got Kusal Perera caught behind off the last ball of his first over. Kamindu Mendis was trapped off the first ball of his next over, then captain Charith Asalanka gave a thick edge down the leg side that was brilliantly caught by a diving Hay. Ferguson, who missed Saturday’s four-wicket defeat, became the fifth New Zealand bowler after Jacob Oram, Tim Southee, Michael Bracewell and Matt Henry to achieve a T20 hat-trick. Hay became the first wicketkeeper in T20 history to feature in six dismissals. When New Zealand batted, Wanindu Hasaranga took 4-17 after he was hobbled by a hamstring injury in his first over. Fast bowler Nuwan Thushara bowled Tim Robinson off a yorker with the first ball of the match. Hasaranga spun the Kiwis into deeper trouble. Phillips was clean bowled when he attempted to reverse sweep a googly, and Michael Bracewell and Hay were also bowled. New Zealand slumped to 6-52 in the 11th over when Hasaranga had Will Young, the top scorer on 30, stumped. Josh Clarkson (24) and captain Mitchell Santner (19) lifted the ****** Caps’ total. But fast bowler Pathirana limited the run-rate in the ****** overs by taking 3-11 with deceiving slower deliveries.
