Haboob event in Fresno area catches weather forecasters by surprise. Then the rain came
Haboob event in Fresno area catches weather forecasters by surprise. Then the rain came
A rare Haboob event blanketed the Fresno area that even caught weather forecasters in Hanford by surprise.
The dust storm kicked up at 2:30 p.m., meteorologist Felix Castro said. The dust storm caused driving problems for motorists especially on the highways.
“It was kind of unexpected,” Castro said. “It’s a very rare event. We noticed it on time when it happened and we were able to see it on radar in satellite image.
The warning was in effect until 3 p.m. for Highways 180, 43, 41 and 99. Castro said they issued three warnings since the dust storm was moving southeast into Bakersfield.
He said winds kicked up to 45 mph at Fresno Yosemite Airport.
Heavy winds caused some power lines to topple, as well as trees, including one at Dakota and Marks where a tree fell on the carport at an apartment that likely damaged vehicles.
Thousands remain without power as of 7:30 p.m.
After the heavy winds, Fresno received .25 inch of rain.
But the Haboob is what was being talked about by forecasters in Hanford.
“We were like ‘Oh my ****’ wow,” Castro said. “When it started developing, we saw it move southeast and it got worse. Then there was a big line of strong showers with the strong winds behind it.”

London train passenger fined £450 for not showing railcard
London train passenger fined £450 for not showing railcard
Molly McGregor
Molly has been fined £450 and does not know if she has a ********* record
“I couldn’t believe, just by clicking the wrong button… that it counted as ********* activity. I was really shocked.”
Molly McGregor has not had a fun time travelling on the railways recently.
In June, the 29-year-old commuter was threatened with prosecution for selecting a 16-25 discounted train ticket instead of a 26-30 one from London Bridge to her home in St Albans. They both give the same discount.
That case has now been dropped after her MP intervened. But it was only when challenging it that Molly discovered she had also been prosecuted for a separate incident the month before.
Molly McGregor has been threatened with prosecution for using the wrong railcard
She ******* to turn up to court as the papers had been sent to a wrong address and she now fears she could have a ********* record.
Molly was prosecuted and fined £450 in her absence at court for not showing a railcard for her journey in May from St Albans to Luton Airport Parkway.
She claimed she had not uploaded her railcard to the app, but did prove she had bought one by showing the ticket inspector her receipt.
The rail company, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), had sent the court letters to the wrong address and she never received them.
She says: “They got the wrong house number. It went to court without me present and I was found guilty.”
Molly now owes £450 and does not know if she has a ********* record.
She called the court but they said they could not tell her over the phone as that would count as legal advice and she would need to carry out a Disclosure and Barring Service check on herself to find out.
GTR says it gives passengers the opportunity to send in their valid railcards to stop action, adding it had provided details to Molly on how to resolve the court judgement.

Passenger watchdog Transport Focus has pleaded for train companies to treat passengers more fairly when they make mistakes
It is the not the first time passengers have been confused and threatened with prosecutions for wrongly using railcards.
Engineering graduate Sam Williamson was told he could face ********* prosecution by a train company for incorrectly using a ticket which cost him £1.90 less than it should have done.
Passenger watchdog Transport Focus has pleaded for train companies to treat passengers more fairly when they make mistakes.
“We know from talking to passengers how confusing the current system is – no one thinks you should have to spend ages checking detailed rules and restrictions before getting on a train,” Alex Robertson, chief executive of Transport Focus recently said.
The Department for Transport has promised “the biggest overhaul of our railways in a generation, including simplifying fares”.
Among the options they are considering are pay as you go and digital season tickets that can be used across the rail network.
Molly says the rail companies are being “heavy-handed” about genuine mistakes.
“It’s alarming that it can lead to this and there’s potentially hundreds or thousands of people now landing ********* records for such a minor offence,” she added.
Molly has put through an appeal, as she says she did select the correct railcard for her May ticket, but needs to wait six months to find out the court’s decision.
She says: “Rules and regulations around railcards need to be examined and clearer processes put in place.”
A GTR spokesperson said if passengers used a railcard for discounted travel then they needed to be able to show it to ticket inspectors on their journey.
“Ms McGregor was stopped on two occasions and advised both times she should have been travelling with a railcard,” they said.
“To fix this, we have rescinded any action for the second (June) journey and provided details to Ms McGregor on how to resolve the court judgement for the first.
“We are genuinely sorry that her address was recorded incorrectly for the first journey.”

Cowboys sign Jaxson Paulo, 2025 roster spots still open
Cowboys sign Jaxson Paulo, 2025 roster spots still open
North Queensland have signed outside back Jaxson Paulo on a two-year deal and still have two spots available in their top 30 for next season.
The 25-year-old was given a release by Manly to join the Cowboys. He has scored 63 tries in 63 NRL games for the Roosters, South Sydney and the Sea Eagles.
Paulo’s acquisition means the Cowboys now have 28 spots filled in their top squad for 2025.
Veteran prop Jordan McLean is one of them. While not listed on the official NRL contract list, AAP has confirmed the 33-year-old 2017 premiership winner will be back in 2025 for the Cowboys.
North Queensland also remain confident of re-signing NSW ******* Reece Robson beyond 2025, with discussions to ramp up when he returns from holidays.
Former Cowboys centre Valentine Holmes has joined St George Illawarra, while winger and 2015 grand final hero Kyle Feldt signed with St Helens, opening up a vacancy for Paulo to complement two of the club’s rising stars.
“We are really lucky that we think we have a couple of great young players in the outside backs in Zac Laybutt and Rob Derby, but we needed to put some support around them with good NRL players,” Cowboys football general manager Micheal Luck told AAP.
“Jaxson came across our radar and Manly were willing to release him, so we jumped in pretty quick and signed him.
“Rob is a big winger and Zac is tall and rangy for a centre, so Jaxson is a point of difference there. He is a super-skilful player and very quick and we are looking forward to seeing how he develops further in our system.”
The Cowboys have also given Papua New Guinea fullback Morea Morea a chance this pre-season after he impressed in the Pacific Championships.
Morea is on the Cowboys’ list with what is termed a “train and replacement contract”, where a player gets paid $1200 per week to train for as long as they are on the list. He will provide competition and depth in the outside backs, and could secure an NRL deal if he can impress.
“We learned some lessons several years ago when we went in with a settled list thinking we had all the ingredients, so we have taken a different tack the last couple of years and kept a few roster spots open to see how the pre-season and early season unfolded,” Luck said.
“We made signings this year with Harrison Edwards and Braidon Burns to bolster positions that we needed depth in. That worked really well for us, so we are going to take the same attitude and strategy into next year.”
The Cowboys are not concerned that NSW rake Robson is not yet secured long-term beyond 2025. The 26-year-old has been away with the Kangaroos squad and is now on a break.
“We want to keep him and he wants to stay, so hopefully it is not a hard conversation,” Luck said.

Get A Sony 4K Blu-Ray Player For Only $158 At Amazon And Walmart
Get A Sony 4K Blu-Ray Player For Only $158 At Amazon And Walmart
If you don’t have a PS5 or Xbox Series X with a disc drive, or you want a more affordable secondary media player for another room, Walmart and Amazon have several notable deals on 4K Blu-ray players ahead of ****** Friday 2024. One of the standout offers is the Sony UBP-X700 for $158 at Amazon, a savings of $92 from its $250 list price.
Amazon launched this deal to match Walmart’s $159 price, which is part of the retailer’s early ****** Friday *****. Walmart also has the UBP-X700M for $158, which is the same model, except it comes with an HDMI cord. The X700M is exclusive to Walmart. You can also save on Panasonic 4K Blu-ray players, including the UB154P-K, a well-reviewed budget option that released last year.
4K Streaming Blu-ray Player Deals
Sony UBP-X700 Streaming 4K Blu-ray Player
Sony Blu-ray players have a solid reputation, and the X700 model on ***** offers a number of features found in some of Sony’s high-end line of Blu-ray players. While it is an older model, it’s still a versatile option in 2024. It includes two HDMI ports, a USB connection, and a coaxial digital port. If you have a DVD collection, you can also use an optional upscaling tool to make them look sharper, although they can look a bit rough around the jagged edges depending on the film (and your TV).
Blu-ray players are certainly niche tech products these days, but they can be worth the investment. If your favorite movie or TV show is available on 4K Blu-ray, there’s a good chance this version offers the best experience from both a visual and audio perspective, even if it’s also available to stream in 4K. This is because 4K discs can offer higher bitrates, while streaming services aim for smaller file sizes, which ultimately impacts video and audio quality.
That said, everyone uses streaming services these days, and the UBP-X700 is a smart Blu-ray player with access to all of the popular streaming apps. The nice thing about this if you’re looking to have a dedicated Blu-ray player in the house, this is a much more affordable option when compared to something like a PS5 Slim or Xbox Series X, as those game consoles regularly cost $500. It’s worth noting the Xbox Series X is discounted to $448 in Walmart’s early ****** Friday *****, which runs until November 17.
If you’re looking to grab some Blu-rays as well, you’re in luck as there are quite a few specials on right now. Fans of classic ’90s action can lock in a preorder for a brand-new 4K remaster of Demolition Man that comes loaded with extra content, and for a library of films right out of the box, Criterion is releasing a 40-film box set dubbed CC40 on November 19. The collection is one of many Criterion Collection films on ***** for 50% off at Amazon right now.
On the animated side, you can also grab the first season of Arcane, a critically acclaimed show set in the League of Legends universe.

China’s big air show opened with a glitzy aerial display of its fighters, but crowds couldn’t see much in the smog
China’s big air show opened with a glitzy aerial display of its fighters, but crowds couldn’t see much in the smog
China’s hyped air show kicked off with performances from its aerobatics team on Tuesday.
But the grand display was dampened by smog filling the skies over Zhuhai, Guangdong.
The hazy opening comes as China tries to shed the reputation of its cities being heavily polluted.
China’s biggest air exhibition opened on Tuesday to smoggy skies obscuring an intricate aerobatics performance meant to display the country’s aircraft to the world.
The Bayi aerobatics team, a People’s Liberation Army Air Force team that flies J-10 fighters, took off just after 10 a.m. local time in Zhuhai, Guangdong, where the China Airshow 2024 is being held.
But as crowds gathered on the tarmac to watch, low visibility made it difficult to make out the fighters and their ******** smoke trails.
At times, the J-10s’ shapes could barely be seen as they tore through the murky skies.
According to Accuweather, air quality in Zhuhai that morning was “poor” — which indicates a high level of pollution — as the city experienced higher levels of nitrogen dioxide.
Poor weather continued to conceal aircraft flypasts an hour after the event opened, muddying displays from China’s 150-foot-long YY-20 jet refueler and its Red Falcon team, which flies the Hongdu JL-8 fighter.
In contrast, footage of rehearsals shows that the skies were far clearer in the days before the airshow proper, which runs from November 12 to 17.
Attendees may get another chance to watch the aerobatics display under better conditions, with the flying teams scheduled to perform on each day of the conference.
The national air show, the only one in the country supported by the central government, is meant to be a grand showcase of its latest aircraft, including the J-35A.
The medium-sized stealth aircraft is a land-based version of the J-35, a fifth-generation fighter launched from aircraft carriers, and is largely seen as a rival to Lockheed Martin’s F-35.
In its first official public appearance, the J-35A flew briefly at the opening in Zhuhai, climbing into the hazy sky.
Commercial craft like China’s domestically produced COMAC C919 airliner are also featured in the show.
COMAC revealed at the event that it’s rebranding its regional jet, the ARJ21, to the C909 in a marketing move to increase name recognition among Western competitors like the Boeing 737.
The smoggy opening also comes as China has sought to shed the reputation of its cities as being wracked by air pollution. Over the last decade, China has pushed hard to curb coal burning in favor of green energy.
Its “war on pollution” has reduced smog levels by 41% from 2013 to 2022, but the country still has far to go, said researchers from the University of Chicago in a report published in August.
“Despite tremendous progress over the past few years, 99.9% of China’s 1.4 billion people still continue to live in areas where the annual average particulate pollution level exceeds the WHO guideline,” the report said.
The University of Chicago researchers estimated that in Guangdong, where the air show is being held, residents would gain 1.4 years in life expectancy if pollution levels there were aligned with WHO standards.

iPhone 17 Air Might Not Be as Thick as Apple Planned Due to Technical Challenges, Tipster Claims
iPhone 17 Air Might Not Be as Thick as Apple Planned Due to Technical Challenges, Tipster Claims
Apple is reportedly planning to release a new iPhone 17 Air model in 2025, which is expected replace the ‘Plus’ model in the company’s lineup. Instead of a larger version of the standard iPhone 17 model, Apple is said to be working on a slimmer ‘Air’ model, with a slimmer form factor. While the iPhone 17 Air was previously rumoured to be Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date, a new rumour from South Korea suggests that the company is facing issues with reducing the thickness of the device.
Apple Faces Challenges in Reducing Thickness of iPhone 17 Air
According to details shared in a post on Naver (in Korean) by user @yeux1122, Apple is facing technical difficulties with reducing the thickness of the purported handset. The company was reportedly developing a new battery technology that would rely on a thinner internal substrate, but had to make technical compromises due to multiple reasons.
Apple has faced challenges with the cost of the new components for the slimmer battery, as well as ensuring consistency during manufacturing, according to the tipster. As a result, the company is reportedly relying on its existing battery technology used on the iPhone 16, which means the battery on next year’s model could be at least 6mm thick.
If the latest rumour is true, then Apple’s replacement for the iPhone 16 Plus is unlikely to arrive as the thinnest phone from the company, Currently, the slimmest phone released by the company was the iPhone 6 (6.9mm), while the thinnest tablet from Apple is the iPad Pro (2024), which is 5.1mm.
However, it’s worth noting that there are several months until Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series, which means that the company might have some time to find a solution for the battery thickness. The company could also push the release of the ‘Air’ until it figures out how to reduce the battery size. We can expect to learn more about Apple’s plans in the coming months.

NFL: How Sam Koch changed punting with ‘mis-kicks’
NFL: How Sam Koch changed punting with ‘mis-kicks’
To understand what Koch did, you need to know what punting was supposed to look like.
In ********* football, kicking and punting are different.
Kicking refers to field goals and kick-offs, when the ball is kicked from the ground to score points or to begin the game. Punting, meanwhile, refers to the act where a team give back possession when a player kicks the ball from his hands as far into the opponents’ half as possible.
Traditionally, punters kicked ‘turnover’ ****** which spiralled through the air – the benefit being they travel further. The negative, however, is that the flight path is predictable and easier for the receiving player to catch.
“The philosophy of punting is – and always has been – to punt the ball as high as you can, to allow your team to get down there and force the punt returner to have a fair catch,” says ****** Brown, kicking coach with the Baltimore Ravens.
A fair catch is when the player receiving the ball is entitled to take the catch without interference, but, once it is caught, the ball is ***** and they cannot attempt to gain any yards.
Koch’s Ravens were facing the Pittsburgh Steelers and one of their main attractions, Antonio Brown, was the best punt returner in the league.
The Ravens needed to try something bold, so they decided Koch would deliberately mis-kick ******.
Directing his hips one way, Koch would shape to kick it left or right but cut across the ball and slice it in the other direction. He would strike ‘knuckleballs’, where rather than the ball spiralling through the air cleanly, it would wobble erratically.
And, crucially, he would employ the ‘drop-punt’, a technique predominately used in Aussie Rules football, and until this point only in very specific instances in ********* football, where the ball tended to be punted so that it turned end-over-end.
****** would travel fewer yards but give the receiver less time to react and prepare his return.
And it worked.
Koch punted six times to Brown in that match, forcing four fair catches, with the other two punts being left alone to roll out of bounds.
“We told Sam, ‘put the ball on the ground as quickly as you can’,” says ****** Brown. “Rather than hitting a ball that has a five-second hang time, our goal was to hit one with three and a half.
“What we were doing was going totally against the grain.”
Koch adds: “They’d look like they were mis-hits and crowds would boo, but we knew what we were executing.”
In a game of inches, Koch’s stats improved by yards. Net yardage is the defining statistic for a punter. In 2013 Koch’s net yardage was 38.9, a figure good enough for 22nd in the league. In 2014 it was 43.2, the best in the league.
“It was very exciting,” reminisces Koch. “We created something that’s totally against the norm for how many years.”
For Brown, it was “a eureka moment”.
“If you’re going to introduce something like this on a Sunday night in front of 20 million-plus people, you don’t want your player to be embarrassed and, as a coach, you don’t want to be embarrassed,” he says.
“This wasn’t some pre-season game. From a coaching standpoint, it was the confidence in the player to ******** the skill on the big stage.”

Swifts’ Kiwi recruit in low-key Super Netball debut
Swifts’ Kiwi recruit in low-key Super Netball debut
NSW Swifts fans will have to wait an extra week to see star Kiwi recruit Grace Nweke in action, with the goal shooter to make her Super Netball debut in Perth next season.
The Swifts are hoping the towering Silver Ferns ace can restore them to the finals after she turned her back on the New Zealand dress to join the *********** competition.
The 22-year-old is expected to be back in the national line-up for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, but NSW fans will look to savour having Nweke on their side after she proved almost unstoppable in New Zealand’s recent stunning Constellation Cup win over the Diamonds.
She will make her debut against the West Coast Fever in Perth before playing in front of her new home crowd in Sydney against Melbourne Mavericks in round two.
Super Netball boss Stacey West joked it was about “building suspense for the Sydney market”.
“Grace is going to have an incredible impact and we’re thrilled that she’s joining the competition in 20225,” West said after the 2025 draw was announced on Tuesday.
“I know the Swifts do enjoy that challenge of heading across to the west, but I reckon the Sydney crowd will welcome her home pretty strongly after that.
“She brings excitement and I do believe that those sort of marquee players, who really do bring the X-factor, are so significant for this league.”
Other features of the draw include a grand final rematch between the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Vixens to open the ninth season, while round three is split over the Easter and Anzac Day weekends.
The 14-round competition gets under way on Saturday April 5 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and the grand final is already locked in for Melbourne, with the date and venue to be confirmed.
Almost 20 per cent of Super Netball players are now internationals, including one-third of the Jamaican national team who played at last year’s World Cup.
Diamonds coach Stacey Marinkovich says this factor is limiting the progress for young *********** players, particularly in the goal circle, where 10 international goalers have been signed with 16 spots available in the eight Super Netball teams.
The New Zealand premiership has a limit of one import player per team, in contrast to the *********** league, which has unlimited imports.
Diamonds shooter Donnell Wallam has signed to play in New Zealand with the Mystics after Queensland opted for 201cm Uganda goaler Mary Chulhock.
The league trialled the Super Netball Reserves five-week pilot program this season to try to bolster high-performance pathway opportunities.
“We’ve had great feedback and we will again endorse a Super Netball Reserves competition in 2025, and we’re working with the teams and member organisations around the format and fixture,” West said.
But she said for Super Netball to maintain its status it couldn’t deny the game’s elite players, with fans supporting the league in record crowd and broadcast figures this year.
“To be titled the world’s best league means you have the world’s best athletes, and we’re bold at stating that,” West said.
“We love what that elite product brings into this country for our league – entertainment, rivalry, competitiveness on the court – it’s what captures our Super Netball environment.”

COMAC says Air China is the first customer for C929 widebody jet
COMAC says Air China is the first customer for C929 widebody jet
ZHUHAI, China (Reuters) -COMAC said on Tuesday that Air China was the first customer for the ******** planemaker’s C929 widebody aircraft under development that is designed to compete with twin-aisle models from Airbus and Boeing.
COMAC’s deputy director of marketing, Liu Yan, made the announcement at China’s biggest air show in Zhuhai.
Liu did not disclose the number of aircraft that Beijing-based Air China would purchase or planned delivery dates.
The aircraft maker also announced that Hainan Airlines had placed a firm order for 60 C919 narrowbody and 40 C909 regional jets. Colorful Guizhou Airlines signed a purchase agreement for 30 C909 planes, it added, 20 of which are firm and the remainder provisional.
COMAC has said the C929 will have 280 to 400 seats and a range of 12,000 km (7,500 miles), which is in the same category as Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner.
The C929 was renamed in 2023 from the CR929 after Russia left a China-Russia ****** venture developing the aircraft.
A report in April from the C929’s fuselage manufacturer said it aimed to deliver the first fuselage section by September 2027.
COMAC deputy general manager Tong Yu in May told a group of Hong Kong reporters in Shanghai that a C929 prototype will be seen in the near future and estimated the jet could “soon” take a test flight, according to Hong Kong newspaper **** Kong Pao.

Carlyle, Warburg among investment firms hunting talent in Japan as deals *****
Carlyle, Warburg among investment firms hunting talent in Japan as deals *****
By Kane Wu
TOKYO (Reuters) – Carlyle, Warburg Pincus and a host of global investment firms plan to beef up headcount in Japan as deals here surge, but the country’s relatively low number of buyouts for much of the past two decades has made it tough to find people with expertise.
Carlyle, which has been investing in Japan for more than two decades, raised $2.8 billion for its fifth and largest Japan buyout fund in May.
It wants to add 10 more people to its local 25-strong investment team in the next two years, said Takaomi Tomioka, the firm’s co-head of Japan.
“We are planning to invest about a hundred billion yen per year across three to four transactions,” he said. “In order to ******** that number of transactions and while at the same time managing portfolio companies, we need to enhance the team.”
U.S. buyout firm Advent International has been talking to senior private equity professionals in Japan in recent months, seeking to establish a local office and an investment team in Tokyo, said two people familiar with its plans.
Warburg Pincus, which this year hired former Goldman Sachs banker Takashi Murata as head of Japan and co-head of Asia real estate, is also looking to set up a Tokyo office and grow its local team, said two separate people.
It has added three people to cover Japan since Murata’s hiring, said one of the two sources.
Advent and Warburg declined to comment. The sources were not authorised to speak to media and declined to be identified.
The hiring spree underscores the intensity of dealmaking in Japan, which has been a rare bright spot amidst a slowdown in M&A deals globally over the last couple of years.
Japan became the largest market for private equity deals in Asia-Pacific last year accounting for 30% of the region’s total deal value, largely driven by take-private deals, according to a report by consultancy Bain & Co. That compares to a much smaller figure of 5% to 10% historically.
Potential deals that have grabbed headlines include Alimentation Couche-*****’s takeover offer for Seven & i as well as KKR and Bain Capital’s bidding war for software developer Fuji Soft.
‘ACCELERATED HIRING’
Overall, private equity, real estate and infrastructure funds currently have dozens of Japan vacancies that range from senior management to entry-level positions, dealmakers and recruiters say.
A senior dealmaker with a global buyout fund in Tokyo said he has fielded calls from at least three other firms this year who were looking to set up shop in the country. He declined to be identified.
Story Continues
The number of fund managers with a Japan office and a latest buyout or turnaround fund worth at least 50 billion yen has doubled between 2012 and 2024, with more new investors ready to enter the market, the Bain report said.
“The surge in private equity deal activity in Japan has significantly accelerated hiring within the industry over the past few years,” said Gavin Smith, managing director at Tokyo-based Atlas Recruitment which is looking to fill nearly 60 investment roles in Japan.
But hiring has become more competitive in the last three years, said Smith, as the pool of available candidates is not deep enough to satisfy soaring demand.
Taku Maeda, managing partner of buyout firm Corporate Support Research Institute (CSRI), said that with more and more money coming to Japan, the lack of fund managers is likely to become a bottleneck.
CSRI, which raised 25 billion yen in its mid-cap maiden fund this year, plans to add three to four people to its five-member team by April, Maeda said, but added he was “a little bit worried about the gap between the money inflow and people inflow.”

Jesse Watters’ Mother Disinvites Him From Thanksgiving Dinner After Trump Win: ‘Apparently There Wasn’t Enough Room’
Jesse Watters weighed in on the presidential election’s impact on the upcoming holidays on Monday, saying that while MSNBC has been crowing about how Democrats would be right to distance themselves from the *********** Trump voters in their lives, his own mother had done just that.
“Yup, people are taking some space in the Watters household. I’ll have you know that I was not invited to my mother’s house for Thanksgiving. Apparently there wasn’t enough room,” Watters said.
“She said it was a scheduling situation, and then at the last second, invited me to come over on ****** Friday. I told her, ‘No thanks, I’ll be at Best Buy,’” he added.
Watch that “Jesse Watters **********” clip below:

— Acyn (@Acyn) November 12, 2024
The commentary came on Monday’s “Jesse Watters **********” on Fox News while the prominent ********** anchor and “The Five” co-host showcased how competitor networks like MSNBC are reporting on Trump, Thanksgiving and politically mixed families.
“How do we move forward when we know that people in their families who voted for him, they work with people who voted for him, they live next to people who voted for him?” journalist Jonathan Capehart asked in a Sunday segment. “What do you, how do we, how should we deal with those neighbors, coworkers, family members?”
In a second MSNBC clip shown by Watters, “The ReidOut” host Joy Reid asked psychologist and pundit Amanda Joy Calhoun, “What do you recommend just from a psychological standpoint being around them? We’ve got the holidays coming up.”
“It’s completely fine to not be around those people and to tell them why. You know, to say, ‘I have a problem with the way that you voted because it went against my very livelihood and I’m not going to be around you this holiday. I need to take some space for me.’”
Watch that “The ReidOut” clip below:
“Since they can’t stop us, we’re not invited to Thanksgiving,” Watters quipped of the apparent resurgence of Trump supporters following the president-elect’s win of the popular vote on Tuesday.
Watters has spoken of his mother’s support for Vice President Kamala Harris before. When she first secured the nomination for Democratic Party’s presidential ticket, he bemoaned how she had become “a Kamala fanatic.”
“You should see my mom. Suddenly, she’s a Kamala fanatic – keeps talking about joy,” Watters said at the time. “Trump kept one dangerous woman out of the White House, and he can do it again.”
It’s also not the first time Watters has hinted that there was trouble in his family home, saying last month that he hadn’t yet been invited home for the holidays.

India coach not worried by form of stars Rohit, Kohli
India coach not worried by form of stars Rohit, Kohli
India coach Gautam Gambhir has staunchly defended Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, ******* back at *********** legend Ricky Ponting for his criticism of the out-of-form stars.
After suffering a historic home whitewash against New Zealand, India flew out on Monday to prepare for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy.
Sharma was not on the plane, with the Indian skipper expected to miss at least the first Test against Australia in Perth due to personal reasons.
Gambhir offered no update on Sharma’s availability but confirmed fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah would captain India should the veteran opener be unavailable.
Sharma and Kohli both averaged just 15 across three losing Tests against New Zealand as the ****** Caps became the first touring team to win a red-ball series in India for 12 years.
Those performances led to Ponting, a long-time coach in the Indian Premier League, questioning their form.
“There wouldn’t be anyone else probably even playing international cricket as a top-order batsman that’s only scored two Test match hundreds in five years,” Ponting said on an ICC podcast.
Gambhir was quick to ***** back at those comments when quizzed before the Indian team left Mumbai.
“What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket? I think he should think about *********** cricket,” he said.
“More importantly, I have got no concerns whatsoever for Virat and Rohit.
“They are incredibly tough men.
“They’ve achieved a lot for Indian cricket, and they will continue to achieve a lot in the future as well.
“For me, the most important thing is that they still work really hard, and they’re still passionate, they still want to achieve a lot more.
“The hunger in that dressing room is incredibly important for me.
“I feel there’s a lot of hunger, especially after what has happened in the last series.”
Veteran KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has played more than 100 first-class matches without a Test debut, are in line to take Sharma’s spot should he not play.
The pair were out cheaply in both innings against Australia A at the MCG last week.
Rahul’s second-innings dismissal, where he tried to leave the ball before getting bowled, would have been concerning for India.
Rahul was batting in the middle-order for India before he was dropped for the third Test against New Zealand, but most of his international runs have come when opening the batting.
“That is the quality of the man, that he can actually bat at the top of the order, he can bat at No.3 and he can actually bat at No.6 as well,” Gambhir said of Rahul.
“You need quite a lot of talent to be doing these kind of jobs.
“Imagine how many countries have players like KL who can open the batting and can bat at No.6 as well.
“I feel that he can do the job for us, especially if Rohit is not available for the first Test.”

Jon Stewart Blows Up Key Theory on Why Dems Got ‘Shellacked’
Jon Stewart Blows Up Key Theory on Why Dems Got ‘Shellacked’
In his first The Daily Show monologue in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s presidential election win, Jon Stewart grappled with the question of why things went so poorly for Democrats. He showed a montage of clips of news pundits arguing that Democrats lost because they had gone “too woke.”
“I only have one problem with the ‘woke’ theory,” Stewart replied. “I just didn’t recall seeing any Democrats running on woke s–t.”
“These were the commercials I saw for the Democrats,” Stewart said, showing a montage of Democrat campaign ads expressing ************* stances on immigration.
“Those are the Democrats,” Stewart said. “They didn’t talk about pronouns. They didn’t say ‘Latinx.’ It was the opposite.”
Stewart later added, “They didn’t do the woke thing. They acted like Republicans for the last four months. They wore camo hats and went to Cheney family reunions. Do you know how dangerous it is to wear a hunting hat around the Cheneys?”
As for Stewart’s theory for why Democrats lost? He offered, “Democrats were mostly running against an identity that was defined for them based on a couple of months of post-George Floyd Defund the Police #MeToo Instagram posts from four years ago.”
Stewart continued, “The country felt like government wasn’t working for them, and the Democrats in particular were taking their hard-earned money and giving it to people who didn’t deserve it as much as them. And so the Democrats got shellacked.”
Stewart offered some hope for Democrats, however: “I just want to please assure people this isn’t forever. This is the map in 1984 when Ronald Reagan won.” He showed the electoral map, where Democrats lost every single state but Minnesota.
“Everyone thought, ‘that’s the end of the Democrats,’” Stewart said. “But eight years later there was a Democrat back in office. We don’t know what’s going to happen in four years at all.”

Wisconsin man accused of hurling baby against wall because he was losing in NBA2K video game
Wisconsin man accused of hurling baby against wall because he was losing in NBA2K video game
A man in Wisconsin has been accused of hurling an eight-month-old baby against the wall because he was frustrated about losing a basketball video game.
Jalin White, 20, was arrested in Milwaukee last Thursday and charged with child ****** and child neglect, jail records show.
According to local broadcaster WISN, White was taken into custody after the young boy’s mother found him severely injured in his playpen and took him to hospital,
Prosecutors said at a court hearing on Saturday that White had given conflicting and implausible explanations for the boy’s condition, until finally admitting to throwing him against the wall.
“This is a severe level of ********* for an innocent infant child,” said prosecutor Madeline Witte.
The child is reportedly not expected to survive. According to legal documents seen by Law & ******, White was looking after the child last Tuesday in a room he shares with the child’s mother, which they rent from her parents.
The child, named in documents as “JW”, was reportedly doing well when his mother came home from work. But after leaving the house to go shopping, she allegedly found JW barely breathing and with his right arm “twitching”.
The documents allege that the mother took JW to hospital, despite White’s “******” questioning, where she was told that he had suffered a fractured skull, six broken ribs, and a broken collar bone.
White allegedly claimed that JW had been injured when his mother bumped his head on a door frame; then that he fell while his diaper was being changed; then that White himself had dropped JW while playing video games.
Finally, the documents claim, White admitted that he had injured JW himself because he was ****** that he was two points down in the videogame NBA2K.
According to WISN, White became emotional while the details were recounted in court, shaking his head and crying.

Several injured after car ploughs into crowd in China
Several injured after car ploughs into crowd in China
A car ploughed into a crowd outside a stadium in the ******** city of Zhuhai on Monday evening, injuring multiple people, police have said.
The 62-year-old male driver, surnamed Fan, has been arrested.
Local reports estimate that at least 20 people, many of whom were struck while exercising at Zhuhai Sports Centre, were injured and have been sent to hospital.
The incident took place despite heightened security in the city, which is also hosting a major civil and military airshow.
Most videos of the incident posted by eyewitnesses have since been scrubbed off ******** social media, but some footage still circulating online show many people lying on the ground and being attended to by paramedics and bystanders.
Some of the victims appear to be unconscious.
An eyewitness, Mr Chen, told ******** news magazine Caixin that at least six groups of people had gathered at the stadium for their regular walks when the incident happened.
The groups use a designated walking path that traces the stadium’s perimeter.
Mr Chen said his group had just completed its third lap around the stadium when a car suddenly charged towards them at a high speed, “knocking down many people”.
“It drove in a loop, and people were hurt in all areas of the running track – east, south, west, and north,” another eyewitness told Caixin.
The outlet reported that many elderly people, as well as teenagers and children, were among those injured.
It is unclear whether the incident was linked to the high-profile Zhuhai Airshow, which started on Tuesday at a venue just 40km (24 miles) away from the stadium. China is showcasing its latest warplanes and ******* drones at the show, and top Russian official Sergei Shoigu is expected to attend.
Several entrances and exits to the sports centre have been closed during the airshow to facilitate “control”, the centre’s management said on Tuesday.
China has seen a spate of violent attacks on members of the public in recent months.
In September, a man went on a stabbing spree at a supermarket in Shanghai, ******** three people and injuring several others.
In that same month, a 10-year-old ********* student ***** a day after he was stabbed near his school in southern China.

National park to continue using Welsh name for Snowdon

Snowdonia National Park Authority has referred to Wales’ tallest mountain solely as Yr Wyddfa since 2022
Wales’ tallest mountain will continue to be referred to solely by its Welsh name by its local national park authority after the move was deemed to be a success.
Eryri National Park Authority voted to use Yr Wyddfa, rather than Snowdon, and Eryri, rather than Snowdonia, in all official communication in November 2022.
Surveys from the summer found strong support for the move from locals and visitors, the authority said.
But there were also concerns over pronunciation and some visitors being “unaware of the longstanding Welsh names and may mistakenly believe they are new”.
According to a report that will be presented to the authority on Wednesday, many businesses and media outlets had also started referring to the mountain and national park by their Welsh names.
The authority said this had resulted in “increasing consistency and visibility of the Welsh identity associated with the park”.
Gwynedd councillor John Pughe Roberts had earlier put forward a motion asking the park to stop using Snowdon and Snowdonia, claiming many were “complaining that people are changing house names, rock names, renaming the mountains”.
Citing the use of Welsh names “aligned with the authority’s commitment to promoting the Welsh language” and of “heritage preservation”, officers also reported the move represented a “unique selling point” which “sets it apart from other *** national parks”.
Challenges have also been raised, including some visitors mistakenly believing the Welsh names are new, leading to “some resistance and confusion”.
The report will also recommend pronunciation guides should be made available.
A proposal has also been made to update the authority’s logo, which still includes the word Snowdonia.

Google’s Quick Share App Now Available for Snapdragon X Elite, Other ARM Devices Running Windows 11
Google’s Quick Share App Now Available for Snapdragon X Elite, Other ARM Devices Running Windows 11
Google has silently rolled out its Quick Share app for ARM-powered devices running Windows 11 or later. Although the app was previously available for Windows-based devices, it did not have support for the ARM architecture and thus, could not run on those devices without significant workarounds. But with its introduction, users can now easily send and receive photos, documents, and more data between nearby Android devices and Windows PCs including the new Snapdragon X Elite laptops.
QuickShare on ARM-Powered Devices
Google highlighted that the new Quick Share app for ARM devices running Windows 11 is available for manual download via the official Android website. Users will now be able to share photos, videos, documents, audio files, or entire folders between Android devices and Windows-based desktops and PCs.
They can choose whether to keep control over the device’s visibility to themselves or share it with a friend or everyone. All Quick Share transfers are claimed to have end-to-end encryption for protecting user privacy. The Mountain View-based tech giant says Quick Share already comes built-in on devices running Android 6 or later, and the app only needs to be downloaded on Windows.
Google says Quick Share is now available to users. The Android website’s FAQ section about the requirements for running the app confirms that ARM devices are now supported. However, tipster Mishaal Rahman claims that despite bringing support for ARM, Quick Share is still not ARM64-native and can only be run via emulation.
Notably, this development comes after Google rolled out a new update for Quick Share on the Windows platform last month that did not bundle any new features but brought bug fixes for several issues that plagued users in recent weeks, including those related to Wi-Fi LAN advertising, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Quick Share shortcut icon, system configuration preferences, and app crashing. The fixes were introduced with the Quick Share app version 1.0.2002.2 for Windows.

Too many wild deer are roaming England’s forests. Can promoting venison to consumers help?
Too many wild deer are roaming England’s forests. Can promoting venison to consumers help?
WINCHESTER, England (AP) — In the half-light of dusk, Martin Edwards surveys the shadows of the ancient woodland from a high seat and waits. He sits still, watching with his thermal camera.
Even the hares don’t seem to notice the deer stalker until he takes aim. The bang of his rifle pierces the stillness. He’s ******* a buck, one of many wild deer roaming this patch of forest in Hampshire, southern England.
Edwards advocates humane deer management: the culling of deer to control their numbers and ensure they don’t overrun forests and farmland in a country where they no longer have natural predators. For these advocates, ********* deer is much more than a sport. It’s a necessity because England’s deer population has gotten out of control.
There are now more deer in England than at any other time in the last 1,000 years, according to the Forestry Commission, the government department looking after England’s public woodland.
That has had a devastating impact on the environment, officials say. Excessive deer foraging damages large areas of woodland including young trees, as well as the habitats of certain birds like robins. Some landowners have lost huge amounts of crops to deer, and overpopulation means that the mammals are more likely to suffer from starvation and ********.
“They will produce more young every year. We’ve got to a point where farmers and foresters are definitely seeing that impact,” said Edwards, pointing to some young hazel shrubs with half-eaten buds. “If there’s too many deer, you will see that they’ve literally eaten all the vegetation up to a certain height.”
Forestry experts and businesses argue that culling the deer — and supplying the meat to consumers — is a double win: It helps rebalance the ecosystem and provides a low-****, sustainable protein.
While venison — a red meat similar to lean beef but with an earthier flavor — is often perceived as a high-end food in the U.K., one charity sees it as an ideal protein for those who can’t afford to buy other meats.
“Why not utilize that fantastic meat to feed people in need?” said SJ Hunt, chief executive of The Country Food Trust, which distributes meals made with wild venison to food banks.
Pandemic population *****
An estimated 2 million deer now roam England’s forests.
The government says native wild deer play a role in healthy forest ecosystems, but acknowledges that their population needs managing. It provides some funding for solutions such as building deer fences.
But experts like Edwards, a spokesman for the British Association for ********* and Conservation, believe lethal control is the only effective option, especially after deer populations surged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic was a boon to deer because hunters, like everyone else, stayed home and the restaurant market — the main outlet for venison in the U.K. — vanished overnight.
“There were no sales of venison and the price was absolutely on the floor,” said Ben Rigby, a leading venison and game meats wholesaler. “The deer had a chance to breed massively.”
Rigby’s company now processes hundreds of deer a week, turning them into diced venison or steaks for restaurants and supermarkets. One challenge, he said, is growing the domestic appetite for venison so it appears on more dinner plates, especially after Brexit put new barriers up for exporting the meat.
“We’re not really a game-eating nation, not like in France or Germany or Scandinavia,” he said. “But the U.K. is becoming more and more aware of it and our trade is growing.”
From the forest to the table
********* deer is legal but strictly regulated in England. Stalkers must have a license, use certain kinds of firearms and observe open seasons. They also need a valid reason, such as when a landowner authorizes them to ***** the deer when their land is damaged. Hunting deer with packs of dogs is ********.
Making wild venison more widely available in supermarkets and beyond will motivate more stalkers to cull the deer and ensure the meat doesn’t go to waste, Edwards said.
Forestry England, which manages public forests, is part of that drive. In recent years it supplied some hospitals with 1,000 kg (1.1 tons) of wild venison, which became the basis of pies and casseroles popular with patients and staff, it said.
The approach appears to have been well received, though it has attracted some criticism from animal ******** group PETA, which advocates veganism.
Hunt, the food charity chief, said there’s potential to do much more with the meat, which she described as nutritious and “free-range to the purest form of that definition.”
Her charity distributed hundreds of thousands of pouches of venison Bolognese meals to food banks last year — and people are hungry for more, she said.
She recalled attending one food bank session where the only protein available was tinned sardines, tinned baked beans and the venison meals.
“There were no eggs. There was no cheese. That’s all that they could do, and people were just saying, ’Thank you, please bring more (of the venison),” she said. “That’s fantastic, because people realize they’re doing a double positive with helping the environment by utilizing the meat as well.”
