  1. Musk doubles down on email ultimatum after agencies push back Musk doubles down on email ultimatum after agencies push back (NewsNation) — Elon Musk has reiterated the need for federal government employees to explain their weekly tasks as he and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) look to scale back operations. Musk, who was hand-picked by President Donald Trump to examine and cut federal spending, explained why he believes it is necessary on X on Sunday. “The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!” he said. What is DOGE, and what’s it doing? “In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks. In other words, there is outright fraud.” Musk announced on Saturday that civil servants will be asked to send an email explaining what they accomplished last week. Those who don’t comply will be fired, he said. The message told federal employees to “please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullet points of what you accomplished last week,” copying their manager, by 11:59 p.m. EST Monday. A growing list of agencies, including the Pentagon, FBI, State Department and Intelligence Community, on Sunday had told their employees to hold off. A source told NewsNation that nonpolitical appointees at one agency are being told by White House liaisons not to respond. Patel tells FBI employees to pause any responses to DOGE email Newly-appointed FBI Director Kash Patel sent a message to the FBI workforce on Saturday night telling them not to reply to the emails. In a memo obtained by NewsNation, Patel said the bureau would handle future responses to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) inquiries. “FBI personnel may have received an email from OPM requesting information,” Patel wrote in his message. “The FBI, through the Office of the Director, is in charge of all of our review processes, and will conduct reviews in accordance with FBI procedures.” Hegseth defends Trump’s firings of Pentagon leaders and says there may be more dismissals “When and if further information is required, we will coordinate the responses,” Patel continued. “For now, please pause any responses.” Department of Defense tells employees to pause responses The Department of Defense shared a message to its employees on X, noting that it is responsible for reviewing employee performance. “When and if required, the Department will coordinate responses to the email you have received from OPM. For now, please pause any response to the OPM email titled ‘What did you do last week,’” Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Darin Selnick said in a statement. State Department says employees aren’t obligated to respond NBC News reported that the State Department also instructed its employees not to respond. “The State Department will respond on behalf of the Department. No employee is obligated to report their activities outside of their Department chain of command,” read a notice from Tibor Nagy, acting under secretary for management at the State Department. Tulsi Gabbard says National Intelligence employees shouldn’t respond And the New York Times reported that National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard sent similar guidance to employees of agencies she oversees in the Intelligence Community (I.C.). Surviving ******: The story of Keith Siegel, an Israeli American hostage “Given the inherently sensitive and classified nature of our work, I.C. employees should not respond to the OPM email,” Gabbard reportedly wrote. National Treasury Employees Union employees advised not to respond A screenshot posted online shows an email the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) sent to its members saying employees were “strongly” advised to not respond to OPM’s request. “We are concerned about the implications of this request and are actively working to protect your rights and interests,” the NTEU said in a statement. DHS says it will handle responding to OPM The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has informed its employees that it will respond directly to the request, requiring no action from individual offices or staff. An internal email sent Sunday stated that DHS management would handle the response on behalf of the entire department and its component agencies. “No reporting action from you is needed at this time,” wrote Deputy Under Secretary for Management R.D. Alles, instructing employees to refrain from responding outside their DHS chain of command. The directive was also sent to federal air marshals, according to a member of the national council. Department of Health and Human Services backtracks, tells employees to ‘pause’ The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued two conflicting emails to employees Sunday, according to a source who shared the messages with NewsNation. The first email, sent in the morning, confirmed that employees should respond to the “What did you do last week?” email. However, a second email sent in the evening reversed course, instructing employees to “pause” answering the OPM request, with further guidance expected around noon Tuesday. Another message to National Institutes of Health employees urged employees to hold off. NewsNation partner The Hill contributed to this report. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 2. Infinix Note 50 Series to Reportedly Integrate the DeepSeek-R1 AI Model Infinix Note 50 Series to Reportedly Integrate the DeepSeek-R1 AI Model Infinix Note 50 series, which is confirmed to launch in Indonesia on March 3, will reportedly integrate the DeepSeek-R1 artificial intelligence (AI) model in the lineup. As per the report, the AI model will be integrated within the company’s native voice assistant, Folax, adding new capabilities to it. The consumer tech brand had revealed that the upcoming series will arrive with AI features but has not shared any details so far. Notably, the smartphone series will succeed the Infinix Note 40 lineup which was unveiled in April 2024. Infinix Note 50 Series Said to Get DeepSeek-R1 Capabilities A GSMArena report has claimed that the upcoming Infinix Note 50 series will feature capabilities of the DeepSeek-R1, which is a reasoning-focused AI model. Citing unnamed sources, the publication claimed that the reasoning model will be integrated into Infinix’s Folax voice assistant. Notably, it is said that AI capabilities will be available in all the smartphones in the series. Infinix is reportedly using the AI model to improve the capabilities of the voice assistant and during internal testing, it is said to have performed “impressively”. The publication claimed that the AI-enhanced Folax was able to better understand contextual user requests and voice commands, as well as was “noticeably faster” at handling searches. Further, Infinix will reportedly make an official announcement about the integration on Wednesday, February 26. The announcement could also include more information about the upcoming smartphone series. Notably, the Folax voice assistant was first introduced in September 2021, with the Infinix Zero X series. It functions like a typical voice assistant and can be activated by either long pressing the power button or by summoning it by using the activation phrase. Last week, the consumer tech brand announced that the Note 50 series will be launched in Indonesia on March 3. The company also teased the design of one of the models, showcasing a rectangular rear camera module with curved edges. The series was also teased to bring AI features, which could include the DeepSeek-R1 integration. The Infinix Note 50 Pro was reportedly spotted on Indonesia’s SDPPI certification site earlier this month, with the model number X6855. The certification did not reveal any other information about the specifications of the phone. Affiliate links may be automatically generated – see our ethics statement for details. 3. With Tariffs on the Horizon, Sony Moves Fast to Prevent Another PlayStation Supply Nightmare With Tariffs on the Horizon, Sony Moves Fast to Prevent Another PlayStation Supply Nightmare Ever since the PlayStation 5 (PS5) launched, Sony has been working tirelessly to make sure that it never faces another supply chain disaster, like the one that occurred with its release. The shortage left many gamers empty-handed for months and created a frenzy that saw high demand but very limited supply. The newly imposed tariffs might be a cause of concern for gamers. | Image Credit: Sony The company finally overcame that situation in 2023 with great efforts. Now, it looks like another potential disruption is on the horizon with President Trump’s proposed tariffs. However, this time, the company is acting early to prepare for any negative impact these tariffs have on its operations. The tariffs and how they will affect Sony’s PlayStation Companies need to prepare for the changes in import to the U.S. | Image Credit: Sony Under President Trump’s latest trade policy, a 10% tariff will be imposed on all imports from China, and a 25% tariff will apply to goods from Mexico and Canada. These tariffs are part of a broader effort to address trade imbalances and certain political concerns. These tariffs will have a significant impact on global industries, including gaming. While the digital sales of video games are not directly impacted by these tariffs, the price increase for physical consoles and their accessories could be substantial. Since the majority of PlayStation consoles are made in China, this new policy will have a significant impact on the price of the console in the U.S. The PS5 is already considered a premium-priced item, with the base model priced at $499, the digital version at $399, and the Pro version at $699. With the additional tariff, these prices would increase even further, making it more difficult for consumers to purchase the console at a reasonable price. The same goes for the accessories as well, which are also manufactured in China. Sony is already taking preemptive measures to counter the tariffs The company is preparing in advance for the upcoming tariffs. | Image Credit: Sony Having been burned by supply chain issues more than once, Sony is taking no chances this time. The company has already begun taking proactive steps to address any potential disruptions caused by the tariffs. In its recent earnings call, the company revealed various measures to mitigate the impact of the tariffs. These include implementing duplicate supply chains and stockpiling strategic inventory in the U.S. to weather the potential storm caused by newly imposed tariffs. Sony say they are creating duplicate supply chains and stockpiling inventory in the US to respond to potential US import tariffs on their hardware – Duplicate supply chains and increase supply chain flexibility – Stockpiling a certain level of strategic inventory in the US pic.twitter.com/X9XG5wS8Bu — Genki (@Genki_JPN) February 24, 2025 Whoever ain’t got a PS5 now in the US get one before the tariffs are active cuz even the old console already in the US we’ll see a price increase cuz they will try to recoup their future loss on the tariffs like every other company — Larry (@Alucardwar) February 24, 2025 Probably smart. Especially if anything is coming from China. — Slick (@KilzSlick) February 24, 2025 By increasing its stockpile in the U.S. the company is trying to prevent any global bottleneck that previously cripple the supply chain. This move not only secures availability in the short term but also acts as a buffer against the price increase caused by the added import taxes. This stockpiling will also give the company extra time to potentially increase its production capacity in other countries, like Japan, especially for the U.S. market. This way, the company will be able to ensure a proper flow of stock for the global (through China) and U.S. markets (through Japan). Sony’s quick response to the looming threat of tariffs is a smart move that shows it is learning from its past mistakes. All the affected companies should also look to prevent any impact by taking precautions early. In the end, as the gaming industry braces itself for the impact of the new trade tariffs, it is clear that Sony is not taking risks and wants to maintain its place at the top. 5. Rangers sack Philippe Clement: Another new Ibrox manager needed Rangers sack Philippe Clement: Another new Ibrox manager needed And so it begins again – a new manager hunt leading to a new broom in the dressing room. Coaches moved out, coaches moved in, players exiting, others arriving, compensation, a new style of football, a fresh start. Another one. Clement bites the dust after Saturday’s pitiful home loss to St Mirren following on from the mortifying Scottish Cup exit to Queen’s Park, which came uncomfortably soon after dropped points against Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell, which was just three days after, well, a defeat by St Mirren. Even those who presented boardroom insecurity, downsizing, poor recruitment and a mentally weak dressing room as a nuanced defence of Clement ran out of road. There is no comeback to some of the performances of late. No manager was likely to survive all those domestic losses and draws, even if there is a lot more to Clement’s failure than just Clement. The new manager will have to pick up the debris. He has a dressing room of doubtful character, players who can deliver against better opposition in Europe – when there’s no pressure and the game is open – while lacking the steel to see off weaker teams at home, when they have to win in a dogfight. Put simply, they can’t be trusted. Clement had big issues in plotting against domestic opponents who sat in all day, but to lay the blame solely at his door would be to give his fragile players – many on chunky salaries – a pass they do not deserve. Good players can problem-solve on the hoof. Frail ones look to the manager to do it for them. The Rangers dressing room has too many followers and nowhere near enough leaders. You would not want many of them in the trenches with you. It remains to be seen how many of them the new manager actually wants. No regime change comes cheap. As the lawyers go through the process of the club potentially changing hands, Rangers are locked in a vicious cycle. Managers come and go, but everything else stays the same. 8. These Are the Most Shorted Tech Stocks This Year These Are the Most Shorted Tech Stocks This Year Hazeltree came out with its list of most shorted stocks for January. Several tech stocks made the list, including Apple and Supermicro. IBM, AMD and Micron dropped off the list. Micron (NASDAQ:), AMD (NASDAQ:), and IBM (NYSE:) all fell of the list. Some of the leading technology stocks in the world are among those that are shorted the most by hedge funds and short sellers. Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:), MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:), and Apple (NASDAQ:) were among the 10 most shorted stocks, according to financial data firm Hazeltree and its January Shortside Crowdedness Report. In the U.S. large-cap category, ticket seller Live Nation Entertainment (NYSE:) remained the most shorted stock for the second straight month along with WEC Energy Group (NYSE:), Chevron (NYSE:), and Charter Communications (NASDAQ:). All four of those stocks had crowdedness scores of 99. The Hazeltree crowdedness score represents securities that are being shorted by the highest percentage of funds on a scale of 1-99. The second most shorted large caps were AI server manufacturer Super Micro Computer and the largest corporate owner of MicroStrategy, which is now being called Strategy. Both had scores of 96. Super Micro Computer also had Hazeltree’s highest institutional supply utilization rating for the second month in a row with a rating of 51.03%. This figure gauges the percentage of the supply of a particular security that is being lent out by institutional investors. It is an indicator of how “hot” a security is in terms of the supply-demand dynamic. Apple Makes List Again, IBM Falls Off Rounding out the top 10 were four stocks with scores of 93 – Apple, software company Synopsys (NASDAQ:), banking giant Capital One (NYSE:) and industrial firm Air Products and Chemicals (NYSE:). Last month, Apple was the most shorted large-cap stock, so it moved down in the rankings. Also, IBM, Micron Technology, and AMD dropped out of the top 10 after making the list last month. “The tech sector continued to ride a wave of investor enthusiasm from December, which included short-sellers who gravitated to large-cap security names such as Apple and Super Micro,” Tim Smith, managing director of data insights at Hazeltree, said. “We observed the re-emergence of past 2024 crowded large caps such as Chevron and Super Micro Computer, which were among January’s most crowded shorted securities with a score of 99.” Overall, when an investor shorts a stock, they seek to profit off an expected decline in the asset. So, it is likely that many of these popular tech names are on the list because investors see them as overvalued or facing some type of near-term headwind. The most shorted mid-cap stock was chemical company Albemarle (NYSE:) with a score of 99 followed by retailer Wayfair (NYSE:) at 96. Satellite maker AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ:) had the highest institutional supply utilization (ISU) rating at 77.57%. Among small-caps, semiconductor firm Wolfspeed (NYSE:) remained the most shorted small-cap for the sixth straight month with a score of 99, followed by Xerox (NASDAQ:) at 96. Wolfspeed also had the highest ISU at 60.45%. In the EMEA, Kering was the most shorted large-cap stock with a score of 99 followed by Universal Music Group at 90 and HSBC Holdings (NYSE:) at 85. 14. A decades-old rocket-propelled grenade kills 2 toddlers who found it in the Cambodian countryside A decades-old rocket-propelled grenade kills 2 toddlers who found it in the Cambodian countryside PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — A rocket-propelled grenade believed to be more than 25 years old killed two cousins, a girl and a boy both 2 years old, when it blew up Saturday near their homes in rural northwestern Cambodia, officials said. The accident happened in Siem Reap province’s Svay Leu district, where there had been heavy fighting in the 1980s and 1990s between Cambodian government soldiers and rebel guerrillas from the ********** Khmer Rouge. The group had been ousted from power in 1979. Muo Lisa and her male cousin, Thum Yen, lived in neighboring homes in the remote village of Kranhuong. Their parents were doing farm work when the two toddlers apparently came across the unexploded ordinance and it detonated. Experts from the Cambodian Mine Action Center determined afterwards from fragments that it was a rocket-propelled grenade. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Old unexploded munitions are especially dangerous because their explosive contents become volatile as they deteriorate. “Their parents went to settle on land that was a former battlefield, and they were not aware that there were any land mines or unexploded ordinance buried near their homes,” CMAC Director-General Heng Ratana said. “It’s a pity because they were too young and they should not have died like this.” Some 4-6 million land mines and other unexploded munitions are estimated to have littered Cambodia’s countryside during decades of conflict that began in 1970 and ended in 1998. Since the end of the fighting in Cambodia, nearly 20,000 people have been killed and about 45,000 injured by leftover war explosives. The number of casualties has declined over time; last year there were 49 deaths. “The war is completely over and there is fully peace for more than 25 years, but the blood of the Khmer (Cambodian) people continues to flow because of the remnants of land mines and ammunition,” Heng Ratana said on his Facebook page. Cambodian deminers are among the world’s most experienced, and several thousand have been sent in the past decade under U.N. auspices to work in Africa and the Middle East. Cambodia’s demining efforts drew attention earlier this month, when U.S. financial assistance for it in eight provinces was suspended due to President Donald Trump’s 90-day freeze on foreign assistance. Heng Ratana said Thursday he had been informed that Washington had issued a waiver allowing the aid — $6.36 million covering March 2022 to November 2025 — to resume flowing. . 17. An action plan for net-zero compatible with budget constraints An action plan for net-zero compatible with budget constraints When it comes to IT sustainability, the present economic uncertainty and political swings from diametrically opposite policies regarding climate change present a significant challenge to IT leaders. They require a technology roadmap to navigate these turbulent times robust enough to adapt to economic and political volatility. Sujata Kukreja, general counsel and chief compliance officer at network management platform Expereo, urges tech leaders to manage sustainability with innovation and take into consideration the running costs of inefficient datacentres. “We have to invest money and we are very conscious of datacentre energy consumption,” she says. Expereo therefore continues to prioritise emissions reduction, even if it’s costly. The procurement team increasingly seeks renewables-based arrangements. It’s about having a longer-term focus, especially with artificial intelligence (AI) tools coming in, says Kukreja. “But our investors are not going to continue if we’re not a business with purpose.” Another company that expects to continue to focus on emissions reduction and science-based targets despite economic pressures worsening in the past year is Crown Worldwide. Chris Davis-Pipe, chief information officer at the global logistics firm, commands a 70-strong enterprise IT team with 3,000 staff across business units in some 50 countries. “We’re working to get more visibility of the carbon we’re using and how to turn things off when we don’t want to use them,” says Davis-Pipe. “We stick solar on warehouses, we’re looking at using more renewable electricity, then we’re also moving from our own datacentres to more cloud-based services.” Customers increasingly demand information on emissions reduction, including a plan with science-based goals and demonstrable progress. Crown’s carbon-accounting platform has been calculating its carbon footprint, with 66% of estimated emissions accounted for by the end of 2023. It doesn’t plan to roll back the strategy, but it is buying more software and services off the shelf. In the past, it would have built its own. In-house IT skills have refocused on integration and data analytics, he says. Crown has also given countries and branches more leeway to improve IT environments locally – for instance, to achieve agility or efficiency within a governance framework. “We have core systems – main service delivery and financial systems – globally, but we’re much more open now for people to solve local issues locally,” Davis-Pipe explains. Automation and AI – beyond Copilot content in marketing – are also areas where the company is alert to future use cases that support the business and its net-zero goals, he says. Many firms may be in a similar position. Doubling down on demand Sarwar Khan, sustainability director at BT Group, reports that the company – and many of its partners and customers – are doubling down on net zero despite various pressures. “I sit in the business arm, with support for SMB [small and mid-sized business] customers, public sector, wholesale including channel partners. And the pressure to reduce [environmental] impact is not going away,” Khan confirms. “It’s a key priority.” While smaller businesses have “serious concerns” in terms of how they’re going to be sustainable and comply with net zero by 2050, they’re not backing off despite increasingly realising it’s an enormous task. Meanwhile, more specific key performance indicators (KPIs) on carbon, often revised quarterly, are appearing in the public sector. The pressure to reduce [environmental] impact is not going away. It’s a key priority Sarwar Khan, BT Group “SMBs are looking to big organisations, like us, to lead and support them,” says Khan. “In corporates, too, many are probably in that disillusionment phase, realising that they have to figure out how to operationalise it.” BT this year brought forward its annually reviewed net-zero target for the business to 2031, and for the customer and supply chain to 2041 – from 2050. How? “First, we looked at how we accelerate our plan on EV [electric vehicle] transition, as one of the largest fleet operators in the ***. Second, we looked closely at what we could reduce across our supply chain.” About 70% of BT emissions are Scope 3, so supply chain efficiencies are crucial. Tier 1 contracts are coming in for specific attention, he adds, and must have a science-based net-zero target against which they disclose performance. “If you don’t move the dial in that [Scope 3] space, getting to target is very difficult,” says Khan. BT is doing more advocacy – including alongside competitors – as well as looking at the make-up of its renewables certificates and power purchase agreements. Multiple innovations and efficiencies are crucial as datacentre power demand rises, Khan points out. Jon Healy, chief operating officer (COO) at datacentre solutions provider Keysource, reiterates that customers are shifting their net-zero strategies, including increasingly pushing suppliers to do more and reveal more rather than pulling back. Previously, some net-zero plans weren’t viable. “In our world, they’re not going to get more customers if they’re not addressing their own emissions. Of course, what’s difficult is to get there despite the pressures, including speed to market, constrained supply chains and demand for compute,” Healy maintains. “This has an impact right back to the drawing board, to strategic decision-making about where an organisation goes and which projects are fundamental.” Consequent designs have to underlie and underpin sustainability and carbon intensity, as well as support datacentre sector growth. Entire ecosystems are being evaluated. Upcoming infrastructure refreshes look likely to reap the benefits of currently evolving data, frameworks and metrics. “Companies must understand where their carbon emissions sit and what’s causing impacts or generating those emissions, and really pinpoint the detail to realise savings,” says Healy. Mary Jacques, director of global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and regulatory compliance at Lenovo, agrees. It is continuing to focus on full carbon accounting, increasingly homing in on Scope 3 supplier emissions, partly in response to customer requirements across its portfolio. It’s not about taking your foot off the pedal temporarily in response to unfavourable economics, she says. With AI particularly, there’s demand to understand full impacts and help customers build up AI investments and infrastructure “in the right way”, Jacques adds. “These are long-term commitments by their nature,” she points out. “Ours, including the net-zero targets, remain the same.” Better news to come? Progress towards lower emissions continues under the surface of reports, commentators suggest. For example, bidirectional information flows between Lenovo, customers and suppliers are still developing, but ultimately, organisations will better quantify and reveal progress on emissions. Michael O’Hara, founder of not-for-profit support group Techies Go Green, is aware of economic pressures affecting organisational emissions reduction plans. That said, he believes what’s going on is more a readjustment of expectations and deflation of greenwash, even overhyped “green growth”. “It’s like in the 1990s – the internet was going to change how we did business, and there was huge investment, and then the dot com ******. But slowly, surely, the ‘enlightenment’ ******* happened, maybe 10 years later,” says O’Hara. “The sustainability hype kicked in after the 2016 Paris Agreement and Biden took office, and when BlackRock said they’d prioritise sustainability investments in 2020.” If he’s right, going green looks about halfway along. O’Hara says we can still see longer-term sustainability and profitability. Short-term thinking can be the enemy in business, as much as in politics with leaders only looking to their next election. Among our members, there’s still positive sentiment, but there is a slowness in moving forward and putting in the investment. [In fact] a lot of [previous] net-zero goals have been too high Michael O’Hara, Techies Go Green “Among our members, there’s still positive sentiment, but there is a slowness in moving forward and putting in the investment. To be honest, a lot of [previous] net-zero goals have been too high,” O’Hara says. Over time, though, he expects emissions reduction to embed into company cultures, not least as data and transparency improve, with teams increasingly buying into the requirements. Until now, this has proven difficult in many companies, with sustainability sometimes tasked to the marketing person or receptionist, rather than someone with physical levers to pull. A lot of education and information communication still remains to be done as well. O’Hara points out that people are still joining Techies Go Green – it now has 650-plus members and targets 1,000. That suggests many still take emissions reduction seriously. Ben Brial, founder of green platform engineering company Cycloid, agrees there’s progress, especially on carbon accounting. Yet “short-cut” generative AI (GenAI) projects, such as China’s DeepSeek, should remind industry that alternative paths to innovation can exist beyond brute-force financial scaleup. “Prior to AI, many had this mindset about ‘we grow at any cost’. The goal was to go faster, regardless of resource use,” says Brial. But organisations can develop new, more economical, more sustainable methods and strategies, including in emissions reduction. “Cheaper is not new, but the idea of pushing to use less resources is kind of a new game-changer,” says Brial. “We can think our way to different solutions and ways of achieving our priorities, goals and objectives.” Source link #action #plan #netzero #compatible #budget #constraints Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  18. 20 Industries That Are Slowly But Surely “Dying,” According To People Who Have Worked In Them 20 Industries That Are Slowly But Surely “Dying,” According To People Who Have Worked In Them We’ve all heard older folks talk about their jobs “way back when” that no longer exist or have been automated. Now, with another wave of technological advances and (unfortunate) political shifts, it seems folks are more concerned about their job security than ever. So when redditor Toomad316 asked the r/AskReddit community to share the jobs they believe will be wiped out in the next 10 years, people from many industries gave their two cents. Here are their predictions. 1.”I used to do court transcription (not stenography). Basically, I download an audio file and type what’s spoken in the courtroom verbatim (within style rules). The industry has been trying to implement speech-to-text software for years, but it’s been to crap up until very recently. I’ve since upskilled to an ‘editor’ where instead of typing manually, I correct the generated transcript. It still struggles with speaker differentiation and formatting, but it’s improved so drastically within the last three years that it’s only a matter of time until traditional transcriptionists are no longer necessary.” Person in a courthouse typing at a computer, with two others in the background —Palebisi 2.”I would have to say traditional local in-person bank tellers and walk-in banks. I’m already seeing these new types of banks showing up — they look like gas stations without the stores, and the gas pumps are video ATMs. To do your banking, you drive up to the ATM and request what service you want. If that service requires a teller, you’ll be connected to a call center teller (possibly an overseas one or AI). If you need to cash a check or deposit money, you just enter them into the ATM. The downside to these is the massive loss of local teller jobs. You’ll no longer have someone from your community to help you with your banking needs.” —Spastic_pinkie 3.”Really hoping to see real estate agents disappear in the near future.” Woman placing a “For *****” sign in front of a house, holding a folder, symbolizing real estate or property management work —Handiesforshandies “I think they’re providing a valuable service, but with home prices increasing so much more than inflation in the past few decades, we’ve ended up in a situation where their historic commission rate of 2.5–3% is unjustified.” —Deto 4.”Any sort of translation work.” —sharkmouthgr “My wife is a translator, and this is something she is really concerned about. Her projects were cut in half this year compared to 2024.” —jak_hungerford 5.”I work as a master control operator, basically one of the people that monitors and edits the playlists that send TV programming to air. We monitor for graphics, closed captioning, audio, and video, and also serve as emergency recovery if the video or audio goes haywire. We also roll the commercial breaks for any live programming like the news or sporting events. We recently started using a new on-air system that has some strange kinks when it comes to live programming and doesn’t seem to be designed for rapid in-the-moment adjustments. When we asked the engineers about it, they said they designed the program with ‘stations that do not have a live operator’ in mind.” Control room with a digital audio mixer and multiple video screens displaying a variety of channel feeds, suggesting media production work “The program also has auto-recovery options. If a spot fails for any reason, the system sees how long the upcoming outage will last and auto-fills it with preapproved promos and graphics. I have a strong feeling the purpose of this new system is to bug test and design an on-air program that can basically run and recover itself while following a mother station. You could then have a dozen or more stations all following the lead of one main station, which could eliminate 90% of operators, the only ones remaining being those who monitor those dozen stations at once and do quick fixes for any stations that miss a trigger or have a random glitch. I don’t think live TV could realistically be fully automated in a decade, but the number of hands needed to do it will get smaller by the day.” —Thissnotmeth 6.”I don’t think wiped out, but I do think a lot of digital designers are going to be replaced with AI.” —cowboyromussy “My brother was a digital designer for a popular video game. He did this for 20 years. They just let him and a bunch of other designers go. ***** sucks. He’s so damn talented.” —chick-with-stick 7.”Customer service and call centers are gonna see a lot of trouble with Agentic AI on the horizon. It’s not good because that industry employs millions of people across the world.” Person in an office wearing headphones with microphone, working at a computer, dressed in a business-casual blazer —InevitableOne8421 “I work in phone customer service. I get thanked for being a person daily.” —awakami 8.”My master’s in data science feels pretty useless right now. It’s a saturated market, and AI is being programmed to code, analyze trends, create other models, and prepare reports. It’s terrifying, but I hope I’m wrong.” —MightGuy8Gates 9.”In the US, locomotive engineers on major freight railroads. Trains basically drive themselves now. All the engineer really does is hit a dead-man switch, blow the *****, and ring the bell. A computer runs the train and even tells the engineer when to apply the air brakes. The big carriers are pushing for one-person crews, and General Electric and the railroad electronics companies are pushing for programs that can run the train from a dead start to a dead stop. Locomotive engineers aren’t even technically called ‘engineers’ anymore; they’re ‘locomotive operators.’ Especially with the recent political regime and new head of the Federal Railroad Administration, this reality is coming ever faster.” Train engineer operates controls in locomotive cabin, focusing on tracks ahead, illustrating work in the rail transport industry —lv8_StAr 10.”Copywriting.” —Mundane-Brain-1278 “I work in the industry, and a ton of people are being cut for AI even though it sounds like ***** half the time, but it’s just good enough that a lot of companies don’t care. Even a lot of the remaining jobs want you to use AI in tandem so that you can pump out more volume faster.” —moal09 11.”Paralegals. It’s scary, but the legal world is embracing AI. Everyone heard about those lawyers who used ChatGPT, and it cited case law that didn’t exist, but no one’s talking about how LexisNexis developed their own AI, which won’t do that. If an AI can summarize case law, write a brief, and generate court documents, what does the paralegal do? The only saving grace is that plenty of old lawyers out there don’t even know how to e-file documents, so that may delay it a bit.” A professional woman in an office holds a tablet, seated at a desk with legal books, a gavel, and scales of justice, indicating a legal profession —Visual_Refuse_6547 12.”By the looks of it, being a federal employee.” —Ok_Stop7366 “Them and us who rely on federal funding for our jobs. I’m a research administrator at a university, and let’s just say that things aren’t looking too hot right now.” —momasana 13.”My friend is an artist. She made a living off commissions on Twitter. That site is going to *****, and the rise of AI has already caused her to lose 80–90% of the commissions she was getting a few years ago. She’s currently working a minimum wage job to keep what she can in her account while she figures out what to do.” A person in an art studio painting on a canvas; they are wearing a denim shirt and an apron, focusing intently on their work —Beautiful-Aerie7576 “This is one of the saddest parts of AI — we thought it would take over mundane tasks so we could pursue things like the arts, yet here we are, doing mundane things while the arts are being taken over by AI. Even our community alert pages on Facebook are now adding AI-generated images with every post. It’s annoying as *****.” —draggar 14.”What about drive-thrus? Some places like Taco Bell are already doing it.” —spwnofsaton “Fast food seems to be getting rid of cashiers and trying to move everyone to apps or kiosks. Secondarily, they seem to be getting rid of dine-in service in favor of drive-thru or pickup. McDonald’s is phasing out self-serve beverages, for example. Starbucks is opening new stores without seating areas. Much lower costs that way.” —xkulp8 15.”My hope is that car salespeople go extinct. The dealership model is antiquated and unnecessary. There’s no good reason why one can’t buy a car completely electronically. Choose a car. Add options. Add to basket. Select financing. Complete purchase.” A businessperson in a suit shows a young woman in casual clothes a tablet, standing near a car in a showroom, suggesting a vehicle purchase —MountainRoll29 “They’re fighting it tooth and nail, but I see them being wiped out or totally minimized within 20 years. Pretty much everyone born after 1980 or so is too used to buying online and doesn’t want to deal with haggling or being pressured by a middleman who is making a commission.” —Axolotls-Anonymous 16.”Newspaper print employees.” —Overall_Brilliant_74 “I simply do not understand how so many local papers are still in print. I don’t know a single person who still subscribes to a newspaper delivery. “ —entitledfanman 17.”Teaching. We’re leaving en masse due to low pay and terrible conditions, and it’s only getting worse.” A teacher in a classroom engages with students raising their hands, standing in front of a whiteboard with notes on bean experiments —DecentAssociate7104 “I live in the South, and it’s way worse than people know. We have a teacher on Facebook who regularly posts things that are clearly not true, like 20 million dead from famine in the US during the Great Depression. The good teachers are fleeing and leaving the state.” —Caspur42 18.”I do digital marketing for small local businesses. We do their social media, websites, Google ads, newsletters, blogs, etc. With the way AI is advancing, I really worry that people won’t need someone to market for them anymore. That’s still way down the line, but I’m in my 20s. What is this industry going to look like when I’m 50? It’s already really hard to find a job.” —littlemybb “This. I got a marketing degree in 2015 and was laid off twice in five years. I went back to school and got my nursing license after that.” —Bunny26590 19.”Bridal and formal wear stores/stylists. We’re already seeing stores close now at rapid rates. People buy their wedding dresses and prom/homecoming dresses from SHEIN, Amazon, and other cheaper online retailers. Brides still try to book appointments and tell us, ‘Oh, I have a dress; I just didn’t get the Say Yes to the Dress experience, so I want to come in and try stuff on.’ We can’t compete with a $50 dress, and brides care less and less about quality because ‘I’m only wearing it for a few hours.’ Some bridal shop owners think they can band together and write to their congressional leaders and senators to stop people from buying online, but they really can’t.” Person in a suit holding a blue book, standing in a bridal boutique surrounded by mannequins wearing wedding dresses “There’s really no way to take back the industry. We are in the age of fast fashion and cheap prices. Gone are the days of spending $1,500 on a wedding dress, shopping with your mom, and waiting six to nine months for it to come in. It’s not about educating them and teaching them about quality. It’s a different generation; we either get with the times or get out.” —MacisBeerGutBabyBump 20.”Journalist. I covered the NBA for over a decade, but from 2019 until now — the last five years — I’ve been laid off seven times as companies shift to AI-authored stories. I’ve been offered AI editing roles for half my typical pay, which is unsustainable. 19. Tax season 2025: What Canadians need to know before filing – National Tax season 2025: What Canadians need to know before filing – National Canada’s tax season is now officially open – and there a few key changes that could affect ********* pocketbooks. Starting Monday, Canadians can file their income tax and benefit returns online. “Considering all of the financial stress the Canadians are feeling right now, this might be a good year to take a bit of a closer look at your taxes to make sure that you are claiming every single tax credit that’s available to you,” said Clay Jarvis, a financial expert with NerdWallet Canada. The Canada Revenue Agency said it received more than 33 million returns last year and issued more than 19 million refunds – an average of $2,294. The deadline for most individuals to file and pay any taxes owed is April 30 after which they may face penalties and interest. Story continues below advertisement Self-employed Canadians have until June 16 to file their tax return, but any money owed should be paid before April 30 to avoid interest, according to the CRA Getting on top of your taxes early can pay off, especially if your tax situation is a bit more complicated, Jarvis said. “I think sooner is always better when it comes to your taxes,” he said. This will not only let people get a quicker refund, but also give more time to reach out to the CRA for help or track down receipts, Jarvis said “Giving yourself a longer runway is going to make it a less stressful process and … you’re going to get your money a lot faster,” he said. 6:34 Your Money: Personal tax deadline approaching: March 4th The federal income tax brackets are increasing by 2.7 per cent to account for inflation. That comes after a 4.7 per cent increase in 2024. Story continues below advertisement For 2025, federal tax is 15 per cent for earnings up to $57,375; 20.5 per cent between $57,375.01 and $114,750; and 26 per cent between $114,750.01 and $177,882. The tax rate is 29 per cent for earnings between $177,882.01 and $253,414, while anything more than that is taxed at 33 per cent. In addition, provinces and territories use their own personal income levels to calculate tax rates. The contribution limit for the registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) has increased to $32,490 for the 2025 tax year, up from $31,560 the year before. Get weekly money news Get expert insights, Q&A on markets, housing, inflation, and personal finance information delivered to you every Saturday. Maximum pensionable earnings and contributions have also gone up. The Year’s Maximum Pensionable Earnings (YMPE) for 2025 will be $71,300 — up from $68,500 the previous year. Story continues below advertisement The maximum contribution for employee and employer Canada Pension Plan has increased to $4,034.10 each—up from $3,867.50 in 2024. But the contribution rate for 2025 remains unchanged at 5.95 per cent. The self-employed CPP contribution rate remains at 11.90 per cent, and the maximum contribution will be $8,068.20—up from $7,735.00 in 2024, according to the CRA. After two consecutives increases, the contribution room for the tax-free savings account (TFSA) will remain unchanged at $7,000. 1:52 Business Matters: CRA confirms TFSA contribution limit for 2025 For the 2025 tax year, the basic personal amount (BPA) — on which you do not pay federal income tax — ranges from $14,538 to $16,129, depending on your overall income. Story continues below advertisement That’s up from 2024 figures, which range from $14,256 to $15,705. Those with lower incomes have a higher basic personal tax credit. As for Employment Insurance (EI), the maximum insurable earnings have increased to $65,700 – up from 63,200. For 2025, the maximum annual EI premium that an employee will pay is 1,077.48 – increasing from 1,049.12 in 2024. The maximum weekly EI benefit rate has also risen from $668 to $695 per week. 1:52 Canada Revenue Agency uses escape room to highlight tax scams For the 2025 tax season, the CRA has made some updates to its website. Story continues below advertisement The federal tax agency said last month that it has “simplified its sign-in process, making it easier to access the My Account, My Business Account, and Represent a Client portals with a single sign in.” CRA account holders can now access all services in My Account, My Business Account, and Represent a Client with one click as opposed to signing in separately, which was the case before. CRA has also rolled out a new document verification service and an online chat function that let’s My Account users talk to a CRA agent if they run into any issues. “If you’re going to do your taxes yourself, I think you should always be looking into whatever digital services are there, either from the CRA or a CRA-approved tax filing service,” Jarvis said. Trending Now Canadians call Wayne Gretzky a ‘traitor’ after tense 4 Nations hockey final Pope Francis alert, condition still critical with kidney failure: ******** More than two million Canadians will be able to file their taxes automatically this year. Story continues below advertisement The CRA said it is opening up its SimpleFile by Phone service to more Canadians this tax season, while also for the first time making a digital option available for people who have filed their taxes in recent years. This free automatic tax filing service will be offered to “individuals with low or fixed incomes and simple tax situations that remain unchanged from year to year,” Déborah Cléry, a CRA spokesperson, told Global News last month. She said the invitation letters to eligible Canadians will be sent out via mail or their CRA account over the next couple of months. To find out more about how automatic tax filing works and who is eligible, read here. 2:19 Business Matters: Ottawa moving ahead on automatic tax filing Canadians don’t have to worry about capital gains tax changes — for now, at least. Story continues below advertisement Last month, the federal government announced that it was delaying plans to raise the inclusion rate on capital gains. A planned hike to the capital gains inclusion rate will not be implemented until Jan. 1, 2026, pushing back the original date of June 25, 2024. Jarvis said the delay will help wealthy Canadians save “a bunch of money” and it’s one less thing for them to worry about. The CRA says it is working to update its systems to reflect the current inclusion rate of 50 per cent, but this update may not be completed in time when online filing becomes available Monday. “If you are impacted by this situation, you may avoid processing delays by waiting until the updates are completed in the coming weeks before filing your income tax and benefit return,” the CRA said on its website. 4:43 Money Matters: Understanding the capital gains tax People who worked from home should dig a little deeper to make sure they are getting as many tax credits and benefits as they can to either reduce their tax bill or increase their refund, Jarvis said. Story continues below advertisement Gig workers, especially those who are new to Canada, should try to familiarize themselves with the tax laws, he advised. Lower-income gig workers could also get free tax advice from a tax clinic, he added. What to do with your tax refund Jarvis said tax refunds should not be treated as a gift and should be used responsibly, such as putting them toward a debt or in savings. “If you do get a sizable tax refund, don’t treat it as a windfall. 22. Trump revels in mass federal firings and jeers at Biden before adoring conservative crowd Trump revels in mass federal firings and jeers at Biden before adoring conservative crowd OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Saturday that “nobody’s ever seen anything” like his administration’s sweeping effort to fire thousands of federal employees and shrink the size of government, congratulating himself for “dominating” Washington and sending bureaucrats “packing.” Addressing an adoring crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference just outside the nation’s capital, Trump promised, “We’re going to forge a new and lasting political majority that will drive American politics for generations to come.” The president argues that voters gave him a mandate to overhaul government while cracking down on the U.S.-Mexico border and extending tax cuts that were the signature policy of his first administration. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Trump clicked easily back into campaign mode during his hour-plus speech, predicting that the GOP will continue to win and defy history, which has shown that a president’s party typically struggles during midterm elections. He insisted of Republicans, “I don’t think we’ve been at this level, maybe ever.” “Nobody’s ever seen anything like this,” Trump said, likening his new administration’s opening month to being on a roll through the first four holes of a round of golf — which he said gives him confidence for the fifth hole. Trump has empowered Elon Musk to help carry out the firings, and the billionaire suggested Saturday that more might be coming. “Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk posted on X, which he owns. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.” Later, an “HR” email was sent to federal workers across numerous agencies titled “What did you do last week” and asking that recipients “reply with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager.” It cautioned against sending classified information, and gave a deadline of Monday at 11:59 p.m. ET. Trump also said during the speech that he’d carry out harsher immigration policies. But those efforts have so far largely been overshadowed by his administration’s mass federal firings. He announced that one entity with a workforce that had been significantly reduced, the U.S. Agency for International Development, would have its Washington office taken over by Customs and Border Protection officials. “The agency’s name has been removed from its former building,” he said. The president also repeated his previous promises to scrutinize the country’s gold depository at Fort Knox. “Would anybody like to join us?” he asked to cheers from the crowd at the suggestion that administration forces might converge on the complex. “We want to see if the gold is still there.” But Trump also devoted large chunks of his address to reliving last year’s presidential race, jeering at former President Joe Biden and mispronouncing the first name of former Vice President Kamala Harris — his Election Day opponent — gleefully proclaiming, “I haven’t said that name in a while.” He went on to use an expletive to describe Biden’s handling of border security, despite noting that evangelical conservatives have urged him not to use foul language. Trump had kinder words for ******** President Xi Jinping, saying “I happen to like” him, while saying, “we’ve been treated very unfairly by China and many other countries.” On the sidelines of the conference, Trump met with conservative Polish President Andrzej Duda amid rising tensions in Europe over Russia’s war in Ukraine. After he took the stage, Trump saluted Duda and another atendee, Argentine President Javier Milei. Trump called Duda “a fantastic man and a great friend of mine” and said “you must be doing something right, hanging out with Trump.” He noted that Milei was “a MAGA guy, too, Make Argentina Great Again.” Poland is a longtime ally of Ukraine. Trump upended recent U.S. policy by dispatching top foreign policy advisers to Saudi Arabia for direct talks with Russian officials that were aimed at ending fighting in Ukraine. Those meetings did not include Ukrainian or European officials, which has alarmed U.S. allies. Trump is meeting on Monday at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron and Thursday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump also has begun a public tiff with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whom the U.S. president called a “dictator” while falsely suggesting that Ukraine started the war — though on Friday Trump acknowledged that Russia attacked its neighbor. Trump told the CPAC crowd, “I’m dealing with President Zelenskyy. I’m dealing with President Putin” and added of fighting in Ukraine, “It affects Europe. It doesn’t really affect us.” Zelenskyy has said Trump is living in a Russian-made “disinformation space.” For much of the time since Russia invaded in February 2022, the United States, under Biden, pledged that Ukraine would play in any major effort to end the fighting, vowing “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.” Trump’s administration has dispensed with that notion, as the Republican president has accelerated his push to find an endgame to the war. “I think we’re pretty close to a deal, and we better be close to a deal,” Trump said Saturday. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt subsequently told reporters that Trump and his team were focused on negotiations to end the war and “the President is very confident we can get it done this week,” though such a tight timeline seems difficult. Leavitt is one of three administration officials who face a lawsuit from The Associated Press on First- and Fifth-Amendment grounds. The AP says the three are punishing the news agency for editorial decisions they oppose. The White House says the AP is not following an executive order to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Later, Trump hosted a formal dinner at the White House for governors from around the country who were in Washington for a meeting of the National Governors Association. Trump said Republicans and Democrats can always call him and joked that he might address Democratic concerns first. “Let us all recommit ourselves to strengthening America and making it something even more special than it has been,” Trump said. “And we’re going to be one united nation, and maybe together, this is going to be easier if we start uniting.” The president, who wore a tuxedo and bow tie, was accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, who had her own tuxedo but no tie. Trump told those gathered that his wife helped organize the event. “She worked very hard on making sure everything was beautiful,” he said to applause. Trump also said he’d give a tour of the Lincoln Bedroom after the meal to anyone who wished to see it. “I think maybe it’s like the most important room in the whole country,” he said. “The most important bedroom definitely.” ___ Weissert reported from Washington. 25. People Who Become Lonelier as They Get Older Usually Display These 10 Subtle Behaviors, Psychologists Say People Who Become Lonelier as They Get Older Usually Display These 10 Subtle Behaviors, Psychologists Say Loneliness can be a full-body experience—yes, we said “body.” “Loneliness is more than just a feeling—it is a signal from your brain, like hunger or thirst, telling you something is missing,” explains Dr. Ernesto Lira de la Rosa, Ph.D., a psychologist and Hope for Depression Research Foundation media advisor. “When we feel lonely, our bodies may react as if we are under stress, releasing hormones like cortisol that can harm us over time.” In fact, former US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy cited data in a 2023 advisory that showed social disconnection had a similar effect on health as smoking 15 cigarettes per day—more significant than lack of physical activity and obesity. People of all ages can—and do—experience loneliness, but it can become especially pronounced as people age. Children leave the home, loved ones and friends may pass away and they can start to feel forgotten about. However, loneliness and its signs are harder to spot than those associated with smoking. “Loneliness isn’t always obvious,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa explains. “Someone might seem busy or cheerful but still feel deeply disconnected.” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says that understanding the signs and subtle behaviors associated with loneliness can help us help our loved ones before it becomes a serious, chronic physical and mental health issue. Here, two psychologists share under-the-radar traits of people who become lonelier as they age. Increased reliance on technology Technology can foster connection. Ironically, it’s also a sign of disconnection. “Overuse or over-reliance on digital forms of communication can sometimes replace more meaningful face-to-face in-person interactions,” says Dr. Holly Schiff, Psy.D., a licensed clinical psychologist. “It can be an attempt to fill the void, but the person may still feel disconnected or unsatisfied because texts and calls can lead to a hollow sense of connection, leaving them feeling lonely in those interactions.” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says a prime example is a retired grandparent posting more on Facebook or texting their family daily. He echoes Dr. Schiff’s sentiments—they’re likely seeking interactions they miss in real life. 2. Excessive TV watching Social media and smartphone use aren’t the only screen-related activities that lonely people engage in more frequently. “Television or hobbies might become a way to pass time without addressing their emotional needs,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. “For example, a retiree might watch hours of news or game shows, finding comfort in the predictability of those routines.” 3. Overly nostalgic It’s fun to reminisce. However, talking about the past more than usual can be a sign a person wishes they were still living in it because they’re becoming lonelier in the present. “If someone is feeling lonely, they may find comfort in the past, excessive dwelling on that ******* and feeling nostalgic,” Dr. Schiff says. “It might have been a time when they had social connections and more meaningful relationships. To cope with the isolation of the present, they tend to focus on memories of better times.” Related: People Who Felt Lonely as Children Usually Develop These 13 Traits as Adults, Psychologists Say 4. Frequent complaints about minor health issues The cry for help may not be for physical reasons (yet—because loneliness can contribute to those). “Physical ailments can sometimes mask emotional pain or serve as a way to seek attention and care,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. For instance, he adds that an older adult might frequently mention feeling tired or achy, explaining they may be trying to trigger concern and start conversations to feel less alone. 5. Sudden interest in talking to strangers There’s nothing inherently wrong with talking the mail carrier’s ear off, especially if it’s this person’s “normal.” However, it’s something to note, particularly if it seems sudden, out of character and chronic. “Casual conversations may feel like a lifeline when deeper connections are lacking,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. 6. Changes in eating habits Are they hungrier than usual? Trying to lose weight? Getting sick? These questions may (understandably) go through your head if you notice a loved one is overeating or undereating. However, Dr. Lira de la Rosa says it can also be a sneaky behavior in someone feeling isolated. “Food can become a source of comfort or control in the absence of social interaction,” he explains. 7. Not asking for help People who are becoming older and lonelier might be less inclined to ask for help. This behavior can set off a vicious cycle that’s easy to overlook because independence is often seen as “healthy” and “desired.” “They may be reluctant to ask for help because of a deep sense of pride; they don’t want to burden others with their problems,” Dr. Schiff says. “Even if they need help, they might avoid asking for it, which leads to further isolation. They prefer to do everything alone, even at the cost of their well-being.” 8. Over-attachment to pets and objects Yes, pets are becoming more like family members these days. However, keep an eye on a loved one if they’re displaying behaviors like talking about their dogs as if they were a person or spending significantly more time looking through an old photo album. “Pets or sentimental belongings may fill the emotional void left by human connections,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. 9. Loss of interest in hobbies or interests This behavior can present subtly, like an overgrown garden or the absence of a book on a lifelong bookworm’s nightstand. “Loneliness can lead to a diminished sense of purpose, which causes people to lose interest in hobbies or activities they once enjoyed,” Dr. Schiff says. “They won’t feel fulfilled and it can further perpetuate a sense of isolation and loneliness.” 10. Overly agreeable or people-pleasing behaviors People can display this behavior for various reasons, including increased feelings of isolation. “They may fear losing what little connection they have, so they prioritize pleasing others over expressing their own needs.” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. Related: 11 Phrases That Signal a Person’s Lonely, According to Psychologists The No. 1 Thing You Can Encourage a Lonely Loved One To Do Dr. Lira de la Rosa advises people to encourage their friend or family member who is feeling lonely to join a community activity or group that aligns with their interests. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s helpful. “Shared activities create opportunities for natural connections without the pressure of one-on-one interactions,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. “For example, joining a book club, gardening group, or walking club gives people a reason to gather regularly and build relationships over time.” It also serves as an important reminder. “Loneliness often makes people feel like they’re the only ones feeling this way, but being part of a group reminds them they’re not alone,” Dr. Lira de la Rosa says. “Even small, consistent interactions can have a big impact on their emotional well-being.” Up Next: Related: Psychologists Are Begging People To Pay Attention to These 11 Early Signs of Loneliness Expert Sources: Source link #People #Lonelier #Older #Display #Subtle #Behaviors #Psychologists Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
