  3. Casey DeSantis calls CDC ‘utter disgrace’ for keeping COVID-19 vaccine on its recommended list for children Casey DeSantis calls CDC ‘utter disgrace’ for keeping COVID-19 vaccine on its recommended list for children Casey DeSantis, wife of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, called out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Wednesday for continuing to recommend the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for babies and children, describing it as an “utter disgrace.” DeSantis, who has three young children, was advocating for the state legislature to pass a permanent ban on COVID-19 vaccine mandates in Florida, as some of the current protections are set to expire in June. “It is absolutely ridiculous and unconscionable that at this point, with what we know about the mRNA COVID vaccine, and frankly, what we don’t know about the COVID mRNA vaccine, that the CDC would still put this on … the shot, still on their recommended vaccine list for our children,” she said. According to the CDC’s recommended schedule on its website, babies are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine at 6 months old. The World Health Organization updated its guidance about 16 months ago and listed healthy children aged 6 months to 17 years old as “low-priority” targets for the vaccine. Rand Paul Hits ‘Biden/harris Cdc’ Over Covid-19 Vaccine Guidance For 6 Month Olds Florida’s first lady, Casey DeSantis, called out the CDC on Wednesday for continuing to recommend COVID-19 vaccines for children beginning at 6 months. “Modelling shows that the public health benefit of vaccination is lowest for healthy children and adolescents,” the WHO said in a study on the vaccine, which also noted that the initial push to vaccinate healthy children was to “avoid school closures.” Read On The Fox News App The first lady of Florida said vaccine recommendations should be “evidence-based, not agenda-driven.” “The CDC loses further credibility when their recommendations are not justified by all of the available evidence that we are seeing,” DeSantis said. Who Updates Covid Vaccine Recommendations, Deems Healthy Kids A Low Priority She also said she would like to see vaccine status not being used “as a way to discriminate against our fellow Floridians,” describing instances of mothers being kicked out of pediatricians’ offices and medical patients being denied care over COVID-19 vaccinations. Her remarks came during a news conference in Tampa where Gov. DeSantis was endorsing legislation that would make vaccine mandate protections permeant in Florida. “I’m here as governor endorsing making these protections permanent,” the governor said. “You should not be forced to take an mRNA shot against your will, and that should be the right of every Floridian.” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is urging the state legislature to pass a permanent ban on COVID-19 vaccine mandates as some of the protections are set to expire this summer. The governor also thanked his wife for standing with him in seeking permanent protections against vaccine mandates and for “her righteous anger at the CDC pushing the mRNA shots on our kids.” Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, who has advocated for halting the use of the COVID-19 vaccine, was also present at the conference, as well as a young man negatively impacted by the vaccine. 9. Insurance Council of Australia releases key tips for claims ahead of Cyclone Alfred Insurance Council of Australia releases key tips for claims ahead of Cyclone Alfred Stay safe, lodge claims early and take photos of any damage. Those are the three key things policyholders in the firing line of Cyclone Alfred need to do, according to the Insurance Council of Australia. The cyclone, which is raging off the coast of southern Queensland and northern NSW, is expected to make landfall early on Saturday morning, smashing into some 4.5 million Australians and potentially triggering floods and widespread damage across the densely populated zone. Insurance companies are bracing for a deluge of claims after the event as impacted Aussies assess the damage and try to recover their losses. In a release from Friday afternoon, the ICA says policyholders impacted by Alfred should first and foremost “prioritise safety”. “If you have evacuated your home or business, only return when it is safe to do so,” the council stated. Camera IconCyclone Alfred is expected to slam into southern Queensland early Saturday morning. NewsWire / Martin Ollman Credit: News Corp Australia “If your home has water damage, don’t turn on your electricity until it has been inspected by an electrician. “Do not drive your vehicle if it has suffered water damage.” Second, the council says affected Australians should contact their insurer as soon as possible. “You can lodge a claim without knowing the full extent of the damage,” the council said. “Your insurer will also have all of your policy information on hand.” Finally, the peak body recommends those affected “take photos” and make a list of damaged items, including “the brand, model and serial number if you can”. The cyclone is expected to cause billions of dollars worth of damage. ICA chief executive Andrew Hall said the council had met with Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones to discuss the unfolding event. “Insurers reiterated that insurers are committed to supporting customers through this event,” Mr Hall said. “A number of key insurers based in Suth East Queensland with operations in impact zones are putting in place contingencies; however, their own staff may also be impacted by this event. “Weather events are often unpredictable and Tropical Cyclone Alfred is proving to be no exception. Safety is our absolute priority and it’s paramount those in the impact zone remain alert.” Mr Hall said he expected Alfred would produce “a very large number of claims” due to the population density of South East Queensland and northern NSW. Camera IconSuncorp executive general manager for home claims Alli Smith speaks to media before Alfred’s arrival. Insurance companies are bracing for a deluge of claims following the event. NewsWire / Glenn Campbell Credit: News Corp Australia Major ASX-listed insurance companies such as Suncorp and IAG have provided market updates on Alfred’s potential impact. Suncorp chief executive Steve Johnston said his company was preparing its claims teams to assist impacted customers. “Our Disaster Management Centre is active and Suncorp’s disaster response team is closely monitoring the weather system as it approaches the Queensland coast,” he said on Tuesday. “Any customers affected by this event are reminded they can lodge their claims through our digital channels as soon as it is safe to do so.” On Wednesday, IAG managing director Nick Hawkins said the company’s call centres across Australia and New Zealand were “well prepared” to support impacted customers. “We have already contacted many customers to let them know the range of ways they can reach us immediately to lodge any claims and access support such as temporary accommodation and emergency financial assistance,” he said. 10. US startup’s moonshot apparently lands on its side US startup’s moonshot apparently lands on its side By Joey Roulette, Akash Sriram WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The second moon landing by Intuitive Machines appears to have suffered the same fate as its first try last year, with data indicating the Athena lander ended on its side on the lunar surface after problems with its laser rangefinders, the U.S. company said on Thursday. The six-legged Athena lander, carrying 11 payloads and scientific instruments, touched down at a site some 100 miles (160 km) from the lunar south pole after launching atop a SpaceX rocket on February 26 from Florida. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. “We don’t believe we’re in the correct attitude on the surface of the moon, yet again,” Steve Altemus, CEO of the Houston-based startup, told a news conference. Intuitive Machines is one of many companies primed by NASA to return the United States to the moon, with greater private sector involvement seen as a lower cost but higher risk means of spaceflight. The company’s shares were down 36% at around $7 in extended trading after having closed the regular Nasdaq session down 20% at $11.26. Altemus said the lander sent some data back to Earth that indicated it was not upright. Specifically, he said, data from an instrument called the Inertial Measurement Unit, or IMU, “says we’re oriented somewhat on our side.” “The IMU measurement was the piece of data that gave us the most clarity … so we think that’s the case,” Altemus added. Power generation issues due to the position of the lander would mean the mission would be “off-nominal,” Altemus said, adding that there were “challenges” with the laser rangefinders, which are used to measure precise distances. Athena’s landing was targeted for a touchdown timed for 12:32 p.m. ET (1732 GMT). But by that time, its engine was still running, telemetry showed, as it appeared to hover over the moon’s surface. Minutes later, after directing the lander’s engine to shut down, the company confirmed that Athena “is on the surface of the moon,” though its exact orientation was not yet clear. The company may hold off on its third lunar landing mission, scheduled for next year, in order to wait for deployment of a company communications satellite, Altemus said Athena flew a winding path to the moon some 238,000 miles (383,000 km) from Earth. Company executives tried to put a positive spin on the developments. Chief Technology Officer Tim Crain described what he called a successful flight to the moon and smarter crater-recognition algorithms that worked “almost an order of magnitude better than we anticipated.” “The future is bright for Intuitive Machines to land lots and lots of cargo on the moon,” Crain said. The first moon landing attempt by Intuitive Machines almost exactly a year ago, using its Odysseus lander, marked the most successful touchdown attempt at the time by a private company. But its hard touchdown – due to a faulty laser altimeter used to judge its distance from the ground – broke a lander leg and caused the craft to topple over, dooming many of its onboard experiments. Five nations have made successful soft landings in the past – the then-Soviet Union, the United States, China, India and, last year, Japan. The United States and China are both aiming to put their astronauts on the moon this decade, each courting allies and giving their private sectors a key role in spacecraft development. India’s first uncrewed moon landing, Chandrayaan-3 in 2023, touched down near the lunar south pole. The region is eyed by major space powers for its potential for resource extraction once astronauts return to the surface – subsurface water ice could in theory be converted into rocket fuel. Austin-based Firefly Aerospace this month celebrated a clean touchdown of its Blue Ghost lander, marking the most successful soft landing by a private company to date. Intuitive Machines, Firefly, Astrobotic Technology and a handful of other companies are building lunar spacecraft under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, an effort to seed development of low-budget spacecraft that can scour the moon’s surface before the U.S. sends astronauts there around 2027. Genea Fertility cyber attack: AFP investigating after further publication of sensitive data to dark web Genea Fertility cyber attack: AFP investigating after further publication of sensitive data to dark web The *********** Federal Police is investigating the Genea Fertility cyber attack after more sensitive data stolen from the fertility provider was published on the dark web by the group claiming responsibility. Genea Fertility confirmed additional data swiped from its system last month had been published online by ransomware group Termite, despite a court-ordered injunction prohibited further publication of any data. The IVF provider issued an update online following the latest publication, flagging the ongoing cyber incident was now being probed by AFP and “an investigation is underway”. “We are continuing to engage with the Office of the *********** Information Commissioner, the *********** Federal Police, the National Cyber Security Coordinator and the *********** Cyber Security Centre in relation to this incident,” the company said. Genea Fertility was hit with the massive cyber incident three weeks ago, which first appeared as a regular phone outage but was soon revealed to be more sinister when ransomware group Termite claimed responsibility for the hack. The IVF company obtained an injunction on February 25 to prohibit the access, use and dissemination of any data by the threat actor and any third parties. The injunction is in place until March 25. It revealed a total 940.7GB of data was taken from Genea’s IT network and systems on February 14, including sensitive information such as pathology reports, patients’ medical and fertility histories, addresses, contact details, Medicare and private health fund numbers and more. The ransomware group claims to have up to 700GB of data. Genea said it was continuing to take steps to try and safeguard patients and staff, including working to understand exactly what data had been published, notifying affected patients and staff, and ensuring those affected have appropriate support. “This includes the support of IDCARE, Australia’s national identity and cyber support service which includes counselling,” it said. “We thank our community for their patience and understanding as we continue to respond to this incident and apologise for any concern that this development may cause.” *********** National Cyber Security coordinator lieutenant general Michelle McGuinness said her team was working closely with Genea to coordinate a national response to the breach. “We are bringing together expertise and resources from across government and security agencies,” Ms McGuinness said. 16. South Korea says number injured in fighter jet misfire rises to 29 South Korea says number injured in fighter jet misfire rises to 29 SEOUL (Reuters) – The number of people injured after South Korean fighter jets accidentally dropped bombs on a civilian area on Thursday increased to 15 civilians and 14 soldiers, the country’s defence ministry said. The latest tally included cases of ear damage due to the blasts, as well as people suffering from migraines and anxiety, Defence Ministry spokesperson Jeon Ha-kyu told reporters on Friday. Two South Korean fighter jets mistakenly dropped eight air-to-surface bombs on a civilian town on Thursday. An ensuing blast shook homes and buildings, video footage showed. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. The area impacted in Pocheon, which is about 40 kilometres (25 miles) northeast of Seoul, was outside of a training area close to the border with North Korea. Nine of the wounded were currently hospitalised, including two who were seriously hurt, according to the spokesperson. Eight 500-pound (225 kg) Mk82 bombs from two jets fell outside the designated range during joint live-fire exercises due to a pilot entering incorrect coordinates, the military said. Authorities have suspended live-fire exercises until it was clearly established what had gone wrong, but the military said the incident would not affect major joint South Korean and U.S. military exercises starting on Monday. Near the defence ministry in Seoul, dozens of activists and residents from the affected town held a rally on Friday to demand a halt to military drills that threaten the lives and peace of people living in the area. “We, Pocheon citizens, are fundamentally questioning these ongoing military exercises,” said Lee Myoung-won, a Pocheon resident at the rally, adding it was unclear who the military drills were providing security for and what they were for. Karp has dumped $45 million worth of stock in the past two weeks after unloading about $2 billion in 2024, new research from Jefferies analyst Brent Thill reveals. Karp has sold 21% of his overall stake in Palantir. The latest ***** barrage comes after Karp recently adopted a 10b5-1 trading plan for the maximum ***** of 9.975 million shares of Class A common stock. The trading arrangement will last until Sept. 12, 2025. A plan of this kind allows insiders of public companies to set up a schedule to sell their shares over a ******* of time. Listen: Why this AI CEO is buying his company’s stock Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir Technologies, speaks to the Economic Club of New York in New York City on Feb. 24. (Reuters/Brendan McDermid) · REUTERS / Reuters Other Palantir insiders have also been aggressively selling stock, according to Yahoo Finance data. The flurry of sales has sent a negative signal to the retail investor community that has long propped up the momentum stock. Shares have crashed 30% from their 52-week closing high on Feb. 18. NasdaqGS – Delayed Quote • USD At close: March 6 at 4:00:01 PM EST “Among the top retail-traded stocks, Palantir could be the most vulnerable to a loss of retail momentum. If I were to pick a single name that could be most at risk of an unwind, PLTR would be it,” Vanda Research senior vice president Marco Iachini said. The Palantir sell-off also reflects several factors. The Department of Defense is reportedly eyeing an 8% annual cut in spending for the next five years. This is a potential blow to Palantir, which relies heavily on government contracts. The stock’s surge up to its mid-February record highs had been driven, in part, by expectations that the Trump administration would ramp up defense spending. “As Palantir has heavy exposure to US government spending/budgets there have been recent Street concerns that this spending backdrop will be a headwind to this tech stalwarts’ growth profile in 2025 and beyond,” said Wedbush tech analyst Dan Ives. Palantir further raised fresh red flags in its annual report. The company’s headcount grew by just 5% in 2024 after declining 3% in 2023. Over the past two years, the company has added only 98 employees, Jefferies’ Thill estimates. Second, the company’s chief accounting officer, Heather Planishek, stepped down on Feb. 24. The company’s CFO, David Glazer, has assumed her responsibilities on an interim basis. And third, Palantir continues to overly rely on its biggest customers for business — its top three customers accounted for 17% of revenue in 2024. 23. New York Nissan Dealer Gives Woman A Free Car After A Wisconsin Dealer Called Her A Racial Slur On An Oil Change Sticker New York Nissan Dealer Gives Woman A Free Car After A Wisconsin Dealer Called Her A Racial Slur On An Oil Change Sticker The sh*ttiness of car dealerships seems to have no bounds. I’ve said before how I hate to make blanket statements like that, but we’ve covered so much dealership foolishness over the years, it’s hard to ignore. Some dealers take things really far, engaging in fraud and pulling things like fake kidnapping claims to cover it up, or stealing customer information to buy cars with it. As if taking people’s money via tons and tons of markups isn’t enough. One Wisconsin woman discovered the dark side of dealerships the hard way after a dealer she took her car to for service put a racial slur on her oil change sticker. Read more: Feds Can Film Your Front Porch For 68 Days Without A Warrant, Says Court It Should Have Been Been A Normal Service The interior of a car dealership repair facility, shows two cars on hoists. – D-ozen/Getty Images The terrible ordeal happened during the first week of January 2025, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Makayla Starks took her car in for service at Kunes Buick GMC in Greenfield, Wisconsin. Everything about the service visit was normal until she got home. Starks says she received a call from the dealer’s service department claiming they needed to stop by her house because one of the technicians left a tool in her engine bay. That should have been a major red flag, because why wasn’t that spotted at the dealership? Whatever tool this was supposed to be seemed important too, as Starks says the service department told her that they wanted to come get the tool from her that evening. Things weren’t as they seemed, though, and thanks to the truthfulness of one of the dealer employees, they tipped her off on what was really going on. An employee told Starks that a tool hadn’t actually been left in her engine bay. What they were really after was the oil change sticker that was left on her windshield, which had the n-word written on it. “They were just trying to come and retrieve the proof, which would be the oil change sticker with the racial slur on my windshield,” Starks told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She believes the dealer was trying to discreetly take the sticker off before she noticed it. According to a regional director for the dealer that spoke with Starks, they implied that “the reason they were going to try and do that was to prevent any harm from happening.” That doesn’t make much sense considering that the harm had already been done when racial slur was put on the sticker. See how dumb dealers can be? The Dealer Knew About The Slur The Buick/GMC dealership in Fort Collins. She didn’t have to either, as she says one of the dealer’s managers came up to her and started “apologizing profusely” for the sticker despite the fact that she never mentioned it. Starks says this let her know that more than one person knew about the slur and that the dealer was going to attempt to cover it up. The dealer may have also damaged her car, as she says that buttons on her steering wheel that control certain safety systems were damaged. The Dealer’s Response GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 display. The dealer also says the employee at the center of the incident had been fired. “We recognize the seriousness of this matter and accept our responsibility to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for every person who walks through our doors. While words are important, we know that real change comes from action, and we are fully committed to demonstrating our values through measurable steps. We are moving forward addressing this with our entire staff, reinforcing our corporate values.” Starks took to Facebook to post about her experience, but the social media site’s recent shift to please the Trump administration led to her post being taken down for violating community standards. Luckily, protestors gathered outside of the dealership in support of Starks. As for the dealer, it tried to make things right with what has got to be one of the most offensive peace offerings ever made after an instance of racism: credits for dealer service at its other locations. A Dealer That Wasn’t Even Involved Makes Things Right Family Nissan in Inwood, New York saw Starks’ story on the local news as well as images of protestors outside the dealer. Ramzey Rizk of Family Nissan said seeing that was enough to get his dealer’s support behind Starks. “The team here got kind of fired up to add more support and add more voice to her voice and to her narrative and to push her message forward that this should’ve never happened,” he told The Sentinel. He says the idea to do what’s right and help Starks out came during a morning meeting. Rizk and Family Nissan did what Kunes Buick GMC should have done: they gave Starks a brand-new Nissan Leaf. “Based on this heartfelt gesture, I just know they are kind people, and the world needs more of that.” Starks said. Family Nissan didn’t just stop there. They found out that Starks is a published writer, so when she and her fiancée visited the dealer on March 1st, they were surprised with food, kind words and multiple copies of her book A Painting Bird’s Whisper: Poetry & Prose, there for her to sign. While this story has a happy ending, Starks isn’t done with Kunes. She wants the dealer to be held accountable, especially since they tried to cover up the racism. She has since retained Milwaukee-based civil rights attorney William Sulton to move forward legally. Starks says this is a perfect example of why DEI should be used more on jobs so that people can get training in “racial discrimination and culturally diverse consumer relations.” As Starks told The Sentinel, “I think the ultimate message here is just that we want to see, in 2025, ****** customers and other people of color being treated with the same respect as white folks.” Want more like this? 25. Why did Trump just order US to set up a crypto stockpile Why did Trump just order US to set up a crypto stockpile President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to establish a strategic reserve for Bitcoin, making the US one of the few countries in the world to create a national stockpile of blockchain assets. The reserve will hold cryptocurrency forfeited to the federal government as part of criminal or civil proceedings, White House AI and crypto tsar David Sacks said in a post on X. The US will not sell any Bitcoin deposited in the Reserve, said Sacks, and will instead keep it as an asset. In 2021 El Salvador became the first country in the world to establish a Bitcoin reserve. Brazil, Japan and Switzerland have also debated such a step. Trump – who just four years ago said Bitcoin “seems like a scam” – revealed plans earlier this week to make the US “the Crypto Capital of the World”. Further details are expected when the president is due to host the first crypto summit at the White House on Friday. It is unclear whether the planned reserve could face legal hurdles, or if it might require an act of Congress. Sacks said the stockpile would serve as “a digital Fort Knox for the cryptocurrency”, drawing comparison to a Kentucky military base that stores a significant portion of US gold assets. Trump’s order also creates a digital assets stockpile for cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin that have been forfeited. Trump’s measure directs a full accounting of the federal government’s crypto reserves, which Sacks said are estimated at 200,000 Bitcoin alone. That’s worth $17.5bn (£13.6bn) at today’s prices. It was unclear how the new stockpile would benefit Americans, but Sacks said it “will not cost taxpayers a dime”. His implication that the US government would not buy Bitcoin led prices of the world’s largest cryptocurrency to fall by more than 5%. Some countries maintain strategic reserves of national assets to diversify government holdings and hedge against financial risk. The US also keeps a petroleum reserve. Canada has a maple syrup reserve. Earlier this week, Trump revealed the names of five cryptocurrencies that he said he would like included in the strategic reserve. The market prices of the five coins he named – Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Cardano – swiftly jumped after that announcement. Trump aggressively courted the crypto community during his presidential campaign. Former US President Joe Biden led a crackdown on crypto, citing concerns about fraud.
