The Last of Us is one of the biggest first-party franchises of Sony Interactive Entertainment developed by Naughty Dog for the various PlayStation consoles. The game developers pride themselves on their attention to detail, realistic gameplay, and powerful narratives that evoke different kinds of human emotion.

Almost every major Naughty Dog project conceals a handful of easter eggs and references to previous games and the gaming community discovered what could be the biggest and smallest one thus far. It is a testament to the game developers’ skill and talent to honor their previous video games without taking away the spotlight.

In chapter 16, Nathan and Sam break into the house of Evelyn, a colleague of their late mother Cassandra Morgan to reclaim old belongings. Nate snooped through private quarters and discovered some painkillers from Weston’s Pharmacy. In Ellie’s pursuit of vengeance in Part 2, players will stumble into a pharmacy with the same name.

Details like these could connect the dots and suggest these two franchises are within the same universe. There is no solid proof or confirmation from the developers; however, it isn’t the only easter egg players will come across like the pub from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was remade in The Last of Us.

The gaming community was impressed with the physics of Nathan Drake’s final outing in an Uncharted game. Some players find it hard to believe that Naughty Dog could achieve high fidelity, realistic graphics, visuals, and groundbreaking physics during the PlayStation 4 era.

Not everyone will appreciate easter eggs and references, but ********* fans will go out of their way and comb every square inch of the game to find them. Despite the likelihood of Weston’s Pharmacy going over the heads of casual players, Naughty Dog still included it to honor the beloved Uncharted series.

The developers’ output for the PlayStation 5 generation has been lackluster. The studio released only a handful of remasters and remakes, but director Neil Druckmann hinted at the possibility of another sequel given the gaming community’s reaction to the controversial sequel four years ago.

Easter eggs and references serve as a reminder to reflect on the past. Naughty Dog wouldn’t be where it is today without earlier projects that served as steppingstones.
