WA truckies raise $500,000 for ******* research

The WA Mack Muster and Truck Show team and their sponsors have handed over a $500,000 cheque to fund ******* research.

The cheque was presented to Harry Perkins Institute chief executive officer Professor Peter Leedman AO, who says the funds are vital for medical research in WA.

Professor Leedman adds: “******* is a terrible ******** and sadly it will affect almost of half of us in our lifetime. I am so grateful for this support which will go a long way to help WA’s best researchers find kinder treatments, and give us all the best chance at longer, healthier lives.”

Mack Muster committee chair Steven Della Bona says the WA Mack Muster and Truck Show raised $100,000 for medical research at the Harry Perkins Institute in 2020, and $250,000 in 2022. The 2024 goal was to match that, but generous support pushed it to $500,000.

Matt Lawrence, lead organiser of the show committee, says the event brings the community together for a wonderful cause: “We’re really proud of the transport industry and what it does for our nation, and it is special to see everyone gathered around together for a great cause in helping us all move closer to a future where ******* is non-lethal.”

WA’s top truck event was held on Sunday, March 24 at Quarry Farm, 40 minutes south-east of Perth. More than 8500 attended to see more than 330 trucks, dozens of trailers and industry displays.

All proceeds from the show went towards the total donation — so everyone who bought a ticket contributed towards the research contribution. The transport industry showed generous support for the cause at the pre-show gala dinner and auction.

The WA Mack Muster and Truck Show is a biennial event with the next show set for early 2026.
