Jack Darling and Andrew Gaff have played an Eagles-record 256 games together another since they made their AFL debuts alongside one another in the opening round of 2011. From that day onwards, at least one of that pair has featured in every single West Coast match – until last weekend. Darling’s demotion means he can’t reach the 300-game milestone this season, with the veteran sitting alongside a very familiar name on 293 AFL matches: Long-time forward-line partner Josh Kennedy.

Paul Roos is the poster boy for caretaker coach success, leading Sydney to a premiership barely three years after assuming the role, but more recent history hasn’t been kind to take the reins in-season. Jarrad Schofield is the 20th AFL caretaker since 2011, with just three going on to earn the full-time job after season’s end: Rhyce Shaw (North Melbourne), David Teague (Carlton) and Brett Ratten (St Kilda). Ratten’s stint was the longest and most successful of that group, with his 66 games including a finals victory.
