Good Vibes and excellence the mantra for South West start up

As South West businesses gear up for their night of nights, one Bunbury business owner has reflected on why he decided to create his own start-up amid his finalist status for the Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

Good Vibes South West Tours specialises in brewery and wine tours in the region and has been listed as a finalist in the Start Up Business category, alongside Veen Physiotherapy, Gibson Country Style Jerky and B Aesthetics.

Getting the news he was a finalist was a nice reward after a lot of hard work, Good Vibes founder and owner Shaun Trevena told the Herald.

He began his start up more than three years ago and said COVID had provided some hurdles, but decided to back himself and his idea.

“It was a bit of a risk, but I was kind of stuck in work that I didn’t really enjoy, and I decided that I needed to find something that I would enjoy,” he said.

“I suppose when I saw around Bunbury there wasn’t a lot of companies that really specifically focused on breweries and winery tours as much as areas like Margaret River do.

“With the Ferguson Valley just 20 minutes away, I just came up with the idea.

“Friends always said we should go do a wine tour, so I bought a bus, did a bit of research for six months to a year, and then decided to ***** in and give it a go.”

The 41-year-old said the response had been “massive” and “unexpected”.

Mr Trevena said he enjoys bringing people together and has also trialled speed dating and social events.

He was nervous about putting his business up for the award but was excited to see what being even just a finalist could do for his start-up.

“I was quite nervous – I’ve wanted to apply or submit a form to some of these awards for a while now,“ Mr Trevena said.

“It was quite a shock that I made it to the final and . . . we’ll wait and see.”

The award winners for all seven categories will be announced at an event on August 3.
