The Environments In Obsidian’s Upcoming RPG Look Absolutely Stunning

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming open-world RPG, is receiving all the praise right now after a clip showcasing some of its environments started making the rounds on X/

.

After the negative controversy it got into over the past few weeks, the positive reception the game is receiving currently is a win the studio could use.

Avowed Wows Audiences With Stunning Underwater Environment

Obsidian’s upcoming game was originally scheduled to be released during autumn 2024, with official blog leaks marking November 12 as the release date (although this was never confirmed). It’ll also be on Game Pass as a Day One release.

The game has since been rumored to be delayed, with the new speculative date being early 2025.

Whether this was a strategic move made by Xbox to avoid too many big releases around the same time or Obsidian’s choice for developmental reasons, fans were sad to see it.

It doesn’t help how the yearning grows with every new look players get for the game.

Currently, it’s a clip on X/

that’s got everyone frothing at the mouth. The player is seen transitioning from walking on land to swimming underwater seamlessly, surrounded by some beautiful ocean flora and fauna.

The environment looks meticulously designed, and people are impressed at how much immersive detail the studio has managed to put into it.

While some call it a “step up” for the studio, other long-time fans of Obsidian’s work expected nothing less.

A Reputation for Making Visually Stunning Games

Over the years, the studio has developed an art style that combines realism with whimsical fantasy. Its mastery over this style shows in the way it has been developing eye-catching environments since multiple releases.

For that reason, fans of Grounded (2020), another release from the studio, already knew what it was capable of creating.

After the controversy regarding the game being limited to 30 FPS, not everyone is convinced that the game will look good in practice.

To achieve the level of graphical mastery the game has, the studio would have had to sacrifice performance, especially as it needs to run on both Xbox Series X and S.

Some fans aren’t majorly bothered by the limited FPS, however. Although, with the release date delayed, one would hope that the game could introduce a 60 FPS option for consoles.

If it ever gets ported to the PS5, that option seems even more likely. At this point, even a 45 FPS option would be enough to please people.

What do you think: are you impressed with the look of Avowed so far? Do you think the limited FPS will affect your experience of the game? We’d love to hear your thoughts about it in the comments below!
