XDefiant Player Numbers Are Hemorrhaging, Ubisoft’s FPS Is Apparently Going Out With a Whimper

Ubisoft’s free-to-play first-person shooter title XDefiant was supposed to take on Call of Duty and despite delays and other issues, the game saw good number of players upon launch, making a new record for Ubisoft.

But it seems like the game is not doing very well now as players numbers are going down. A new report states that there is not much time for the developers to bring more players to XDefiant or it may lose support from the company.

XDefiant Player Numbers Are Declining Rapidly

XDefiant launched in May this year and garnered over a million players in the first two and half hours of it’s launch, becoming the first Ubisoft title to do so. This was despite the game not being on Steam.

It went on to hit over eight million players in one week of launch. However, the numbers have dropped since then and as per a new

, the executives at Ubisoft have now given the developers till Season 3 to bring the player numbers back up.

The developers at San Francisco studio will need to bring back old players or attract new ones before this two-season deadline. If not, the game risks losing post-launch support. There are also chances that the team members working on team are ***** off.

Moreover, any hope about the game’s future has changed internally, mainly due to continuous decline in player numbers and players not spending in-game. It seems like there is a lot of pressure on developers now to improve the stats or the support may be pulled out.

The Game Is Struggling to Record Even 20K Players

There was a lot of hype around the game, possibly because it was labeled as a ‘Call of Duty *******,’ but there are also some engaging elements in the game. The game could be a really fun FPS, if the developers put enough thought into content and other areas.

According to the report, one source said that the game is struggling to reach even 20,000 concurrent players, and that too across all the platforms. Another source said, “They [Ubisoft] would probably be happy with that number,” meaning that the player numbers could be much lower now.

Fans can not believe that the game’s player numbers have dropped so low, especially after the record-breaking launch. However, some saw it coming and blame this on the lack of content in the game. With the reported deadline, there is already a lot of pressure on the developers.

Developers feel that more people could be ***** off, after 45 employees were ***** off across San Francisco, California, and North Carolina’s Ubisoft offices, including ten developers actively working on the game. It is also alleged that the leadership is refusing to take responsibility of the game’s looming ********.
