Police investigate report of man suspiciously approaching schoolgirl in Morley

Police are investigating a report of a man suspiciously approaching a female school student in Morley.

The high school student was allegedly approached by the man in Battersea Way, around 650m from Hampton Senior High School, on Thursday afternoon.

Police confirmed they had been alerted to the incident, which was reported to have taken place between 2.50pm and 3pm.

A man tried to engage the girl in conversation as he allegedly drew close to her.

There was no physical contact between them and the investigation is ongoing.

Hampton SHS sent out a letter to its community as a precaution, asking parents to urge students to take care when going to and from school.

The message said a student had reported that on the way home from school on Thursday a male was seen “acting suspiciously”.

While the matter had been reported to police, the note said the incident should be regarded as “unsubstantiated” until further advice.
